(Original Air Date: 10/19/05) Sexual orientation used to be something kept hidden from family and co-workers, but now more and more people are "coming out" and finding acceptance. Anjela says her mother and sister don't support her sexual orientation, and feel she can't be Christian and gay at the same time. Can they reconcile this touchy issue? Then, two men debate whether a person can go from gay to straight, and parents of a 4-year-old boy fear their son's desire to play with dolls and wear heels means he'll grow up to be gay. Are they overreacting to his wishes to be a princess instead of a prince? Talk about gender and gay issues here.

06/06 "I'm Gay, OK?"

Quote From: eden777

Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life,"

Jesus said, "I came that they might have life,"

Jesus said, "the least you do for the least of these you do to me,"

I ask, "Do you realy love me?"

I ask, "Can I sit at your table?"

One of my favorite quotes from Mother Teresa was:  Everyone of "them" is Jesus in disguise.

That little woman has been my inspiration all my life (on my good days).  She loved the "unlovable".  Her charity wasn't in giving them food and medical care-her charity was that she LOVED them while she looked after their bodies.  I honour her more than I can say.

please think about this

Quote From: loveboduke

well   i   care for all  people   and  i want everyone to go to heaven.   thats  why  i tell   people the truth about  GOD  AND HIS  WORD.   i   don't   make  none of this up.  it all comes from  GOD'S WORD!  i   read  the bible  and go to church.    i   judge no one!   i   only  witness to them. because i care for there souls.   i   can't  make no one belevie  in  GOD.   thats up to them.   i can  only  tell  them the truth about our GOD  and  his word.   pray for them.      also  wish them the best.

How can you expect anyone to be open to your "message" when your attitude causes them to close their ears?

In Matthew 28, the great commissioning of the church, we Christians were all called to spread the word of God.  This is our original mandate to evangelize.  The difference between fundamentalist Christians and mainstream Christians seems to be in how we believe we should go about that evangelizing.  There really is more than just one way you know.

I believe your intentions are good and that you really do want everyone to "go to heavan".  What you don't seem to get is that your approach is offensive and disrespectful to those who don't share your exact beliefs!  I just don't think it is the way God would want you to treat other people. If we are to model the behavior of Jesus we should humble ourselves in our attempts to serve one another.  Some of what you say comes off boastful and prideful.

While what you are doing is technically correct, trying to witness to others, I do not personally believe it is very effective.  Spouting out scripture and declaring "Jesus saves" while condemning the actions of people whose beliefs are different than yours does not win many converts.  It is a huge turnoff that very possibly pushes people even further from God.

You have a firm belief in the sinfulness of homosexuality, among other sins.  But for nonbelievers their beliefs may be just as firm.  If you really want to love your neighbor you can start by meeting them where they live, so to speak, and not expect them to come to you.   Christians are much more likely to arouse a spirit of interest in nonbelievers by the silent witness of their lives in their willingness to understand and accept others and treat all with dignity, than to treat them in ways that make them feel inadequate or like second class citizens.    For truly it is not the place of any person to decide what sins other people are guilty of.  That is between God and each individual.

Who is God?

Quote From: ykz_pilot

It's too bad you don't put more emphasis on what God says on the subject, instead of homosexual propoganda.  If you reject the Bible, and what Jesus taught, then fine.  Do what you will, but to claim to be a Christian and reject the teachings of Jesus because you want to continue to live a life of sin is hypocrisy.

Jesus spoke often on the family.  Always in the context of a man and a woman.  Always enforced this monogamy for life.  He spoke often about the perversions of sex (outside of marriage) and the God ordained marriage not the farce done in the name of He who called homosexuality a perversion.

Throughout scripture New Testament and the Original Testament ... homosexuality is condemned and since God is the same yesterday today, and forever - it always will be to those who are Godly people.

Many people live perverted sexual lives.  Premarital sex is just as evil as homosexual sex or beasiality or pedophelia.  They are equally harmful and outside of God's plan for His children.  Of course you don't hear single people claiming people who disagree with their choices are "forniphobic".  The reason people made up the meaningless term homophobic is because they don't want people to disagree with them.  It is sheer politics.  Claiming a lie does not make truth.

Look at the many people who have conquered the sexual addiction of homosexuality.  Look at Dack Rambo, the actor.  He was saved, and after experiencing a relationship with Jesus, he repented of his homosexual choices (his words), started "Dack Rambo Ministries" in an effort to help people out of the bondage of homosexuality.  He died of AIDS, but he is now in Glory.  Not because he was a good person, but because he was born from above, and he repented of his sin.  He is a true role model for people caught in the homosexual bondage.  Also, look to other organizations that free people, and are run by ex-homosexuals.  Look to "Love Won Out" and Exodus International.

God loves all men, and all women.  Those who claim to love Him but reject His teaching are, as scripture said, liars.  He doesn't ask you to be perfect.  He asks you to "go and sin no more".  And most importantly ... scrpture is clear that if you CONDONE sin, that you are guilty of it yourself.  So all those people who say that a woman has the right to choose to kill her baby, they are guilty of killing that baby themselves.  There are no sidelines to stand on.

Those who think you can be a "non-practicing" homosexual are misled.  Your temptations do NOT define who you are.  If that were the case then almost every man on the planet would have to call himself a non-practicing adulterer or non-practicing fornicator, or non-practicing rapist.  Nonsense.

God calls His children to Holiness.  Not pervertedness.

And here we have yet another long-winded sermon about what God thinks and what God wants us to do. And the only justification people have for telling us what the word of God is, comes from an ancient book written by people who thought the sun revolved around the earth, and that God made Adam by breathing into a handful of mud. Why should anyone with any common sense take the writtings of such a book so literally, that it trumps their own heart? This is a clueless response to an incredibly heart wrenching personal story. How can one take such a cold-hearted attitude and euphemistically refer to it as the will of God? If there is any validity to Christianity, it must speak through the heart - not through the superstitions of an ancient collection of scriptures.

BTW, I will not waste time & energy commenting on the disgusting attitude displayed by comparing gay relationships to bestiality, pedophilia, fornication, sexual addiction or perversion. It is impossible to argue with this level of ignorance, especially after having read a heartfelt account of a loving relationship that was supported by a loving family, instead of being demonized or met with the chill of social isolation, as I have seen with so many gay couples.

06/06 "I'm Gay, OK?"

Quote From: eden777

"(want to know what it's really like to be a picked on minority.  Try being an atheist!)

How about being a gay atheist...are you a gay atheist?  because then that would realy place you in the minority.

What about this one...to be a Christian after leading a gay lifestyle and preach healing.....

I loved this response because this is so true.  I was just at a young adults Christian coffee shop hang out place and we had a pretty good discussion on spirituality in general.

I brought up the point that atheists are truly in the minority.

When one thinks about it, most people believe that God exists, it's just a debate on whose right.

Sincerly,

Eden

I really wasn't starting a whose the minority contest. I hope it didn't come off that way. I was just pointing out to Powers that she is indeed in one of the largest groups in America and it's a group that does it's fair share of bullying. So pretending to be picked on doesn't give anyone power. Especially when it's not true.

I used to be in that bully majority a couple years ago. I'm now an atheist, 3-4% of the country is atheist.  I am not going to get into the the things that I have heard and dealt with in this short of time already.  But I am going to say that it's scary to lose that large of a cover and that large of a group to hide within. Being an atheist I am rudely asked several times a month by people online and in reality to explain myself. I never experienced that when I was a Christian.

That's all that comment was getting at.

Jesus who?

The bible was compiled by monks who selected writings of only men because women were not deemed credible or worthy. Writings that were against the monks views were also destroyed. Get with it folks. Not all of us believe the romantic fairy tales, nor do we feel that same sex love and associated culture is evil or damnable. Love is love. Last year a religious zealot killed his infant son in Tampa because he feared he was exhibiting homosexual tendencies.Add to this the largest group of murders in history were caused by religious zealots who felt that their man made religious practices were santified and the only way and all other s should be killed and damned . Note, after gypsies and people with handicaps they were the next group that Hitler killed. Dr Phil refering the lesbian and family to a christian counseler was WRONG. Why not a gay counseler to help the family and child adjust to the homosexuality? Talking about politics (Bush?) or children was also WRONG Telling the homophobic mother to try to introduce gender changing toys was WRONG. It will make the child neurotic and delay his acceptance of self. I and many other boys were like this child and had a hard time coming out to ourselves because of these well-meaning-but-to-their-way heterosexual do-gooders. He should have recommended counseling for her acceptance of her child and help to get over her homophobia (it could prevent her taking the same action the Tampa man did)...and bringing a priest who says he a former queer is BS. He has imprisoned himself to a life with other men in a religion that has been reported to hide homosexual activities of its brotherhood. Cop-out. Sorry folks, we are born like this and if born on a desert island we would still be this way. Culture and history has proven we exist and will always.Like heterosexuals, many of us are healthy, happy and are complete in our sexuality. GOD DOES NOT HATE HOMOSEXUALS, GOD HATES HATERS. And oh, by the way, if you believe the bible nonsense, there is reference in the bible to christ and possible homosexual activities between he and one of his apostles, the beloved one. Let's also get the gender off god as he may be a she, neither, or both. Enough people have been killed and tormented in the name of organized religion. We're queer, here, and proud.

06/06 "I'm Gay, OK?"

Quote From: momisme2

I can pretty much guarantee you that every single solitary person reading this board understands the traditonal Christian view of homosexuality.

The argument that these people need to be ministered to fails when realizing that the odds of ANYONE on this board not knowing about these traditional views is slim to none.  With my bet that the odds fall on the NONE part.

Everyone already knows so there is no more need to "minister".

We people on this message board live in the real world and if we have half a brain, we understand the "state of our union."  Whether or not  we accept it, doesn't change things. The Bible is one of those things.  Most people never even spend the time doing a search on just how it came down to our coffee tables.  As I stated before, our generation thinks the Bible is something that is no longer relevant to our modern times.

Christians do not, I repeat, do not hate homosexuals, we hate the very acts they perform.  They are a horrible insult on God's holy plan of the wonderful sexual act. An act He blesses within the marriage laws in the Bible  A marriage between a man and a woman.  We truly, "washed in the Blood" Christians would never think of being violent to these dear people. Our church welcomes homosexuals with open arms.  They need to hear the Gospel message more than the average sinner.  We will welcome them as long as they act decent and godly in our Sanctuary.  However, we could not welcome them to become a part of our membership until they were saved from their sin.  No more than a practicing, out of the closet, pedophile would be welcomed into our church.  Don't hate us for our morals, we get them from God.  What is wrong with us abiding by the Holy Laws of the Creator of this Universe? Moslems are not persecuted, nor ridiculed when they bow to the East five times a day!  Or force the Quran into their philosophy, America, aren't they the ones with the suicide bombs? Last time I checked, Born Again Christians are the most peaceful people on the earth and will give you their last dollar, if you truly  need it. At least, that's how it is in my little church.

Bottom line America, no we don't need to "minister", we need to be "ministered to".  People all around us are dying and going to a sinner's hell, and we worry about what brand toilet paper to buy!  People don't want to hear  about Jesus today.  They want to go to church and have a Burger King agenda, "Have it  your way".  People want to feel good, they went to church. "There God, that's it for this week."

Homosexuals are ridiculed at every level of society, and they always will be.  I'm sorry, but they are abnormal.  And that lie about there being a homosexual gene is hogwash, check it out. Again I stress with a big fat question nobody seems to answer, "WHAT DOES A PERSON'S SEXUAL BEHAVIOR THAT IS IN THEIR OWN PRIVATE BEDROOM HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING?" We normal people don't have "straight" campaigns going on out there.  We keep our personal business where it belongs, in our bedrooms!  Why don't you people get back in the closet and hush up about your sexuality and quit cramming it down our throats. WE DON'T CARE WHAT YOU DO TO EACH OTHER IN THE PRIVACY OF YOUR OWN HOME!!!

The simple message Jesus left us with was, to love one another.  That means if you see your neighbor going through a rough time, help them. That also means you will read that Bible to your family men and you moms will step up and do what mothers are supposed to.  Jesus left us with a clear model of how we are to act.  Read it for yourself in the Gospels!  If your family needs to make amends, do it. Grow up America.  Stop staring at the "boob tube", start showing some awareness of what's going on right in your own living room!

Sorry, didn't mean to meddle.....

The subtle seduction of homosexuals

Quote From: eden777

Well, here it is....and it's with that comment people are lost......

You didn't wake one morning to say, "I think I want to be straight," and there you were....

Like wise people didn't wake up to say, "I think I want to be gay,"

The question and debate........how?  It's certainly not a choice because the very long and hard journey is to try and be everything but....some say it is who they are and others like myself who say, my emotions are very real but they don't define who I am.  Being gay does not define who it is that I am but rather God through His word defines who it is that I am.

Peace<><

The sad fact about most homosexuals is that they were seduced for that first sexual experience.  Not molested, but seduced.  The main agenda of a homosexual is that the world become homosexual.  They have been seduced by Satan in that when they were seduced by the homosexual, usually a pedophile, that first sexual experience was permanently set on their sexual register.  Usually, they spend years trying to recapture the rapture of that first sexual experience.  That is why homosexuality is so insidious and growing so rapidly.  We are being fooled into thinking our kids are in danger of other things and homosexuality is growing by leaps and bounds because your child is under attack by the homosexual community.  Believe it or not, it's the truth.  Check it out. All you have to do is pay attention how the television shows are pushing it in more and more every season.  Most celebrities have to go along with it or be ostracized.  It's a sad thing because it is bringing down our country.  I truly believe it, because I'm witnessing it.

Getting yourself out of it is another story for which I have no answer, thank God, I never walked through that door. Whew!

I'm one of those Christians you were referring to in your message and I'm here to apologize for the way you've been made to feel by "Christians".  I don't know how old you are, or what kind of back ground you have, but I'll bet you can go back in your memory to your first sexual experience.  Most precious babies and kids are subtly touched and caressed in an honest, caregiving way, but too many are being done in an dishonest way. Relatives and friends  keep little babies for  moms all the time, who knows what kind of secrets are being created?   How many of us know horror stories about relatives who were molesting their children?  When actually, they were being seduced and sexually imprinted for life. God knows and people who do this will be accountable some day.  Maybe this was done to you as an infant and that is why you feel you were born this way.  There are no diaper changing police!  Think about this,  too many infants and babies wearing diapers are being mishandled in nurseries all over America and they don't know it.  Add this to the constant onslaught by the media of homosexual agendas and we are being overwhelmed by it!

I just know that if you were to find a small neighborhood church with real Christians, they would be there for you.  They would love you and welcome you.

Hmmm...

"Why don't you people get back in the closet and hush up about your sexuality and quit cramming it down our throats. "

Sounds more like hate than love to me.

"Don't hate us for our morals, we get them from God."

It seems to me that you people can't agree on what morals god has given you and what morals god hasn't given you. Judy is the only person in this thread that I have seen that seems to have any clear logic that I can follow on what is what in the bible.

So really, how are you any clearer then anyone else on morals?

"We normal people don't have "straight" campaigns going on out there.  We keep our personal business where it belongs, in our bedrooms!"

Well that's hardly true. You get married, have huge celebrations. You hold hands in public, kiss in public, hug in public, you propose to each other in public. You have kids and don't hide your pregnant bellies.  The doesn't seem like keeping it to yourself at all.
