(Original Air Date: 10/19/05) Sexual orientation used to be something kept hidden from family and co-workers, but now more and more people are "coming out" and finding acceptance. Anjela says her mother and sister don't support her sexual orientation, and feel she can't be Christian and gay at the same time. Can they reconcile this touchy issue? Then, two men debate whether a person can go from gay to straight, and parents of a 4-year-old boy fear their son's desire to play with dolls and wear heels means he'll grow up to be gay. Are they overreacting to his wishes to be a princess instead of a prince? Talk about gender and gay issues here.

Opinions

"And, since you cant ever fully understand what it means to be gay and live that lifestyle, you cannot come on a forum and have an opinion...your opinions are baseless. "

It is always a little scary to me that in this day and age someone will tell you that you cannot have an opinion.  I was going to say, 'that in this day and age here in America someone will tell you, that you cannot have an opinion ' but then I read that you are a Canadian.  (No offense to Canadians - my grandmother was born in Canada.)  We here in the good old USA have the right of free speech.  That right does not extend to yelling 'fire' in a crowded theater or slandering someone ... but it certainly extends to the posters on this board being able to express an opinion about what is discussed and brought up on this board.

You can always do this:  ... don't like a post, skip it ... think it's baseless, don't respond.  You can even be the opinion police and deem what opinions you deem worthy, suppotive, what have you.  I may not like what you or someone else has to say .. but I'll defend your right to say it.

I am  more concerned about the idea that someone would want to squelch opinions about sexuality, christianity, experimentation, etc. than I would be about the people who express opinions on this board from all walks of life.

need a church

Quote From: sbeilke

Coming out of the closet at 55 was a miracle.  I had dreamed it, prayed for it and gone through a 35 year marriage that wasn't ever going to be totally peaceful for either of us.   I tried everything possible to make the marriage work, church, counseling, and eventually stuffing all my emotional needs for many many years.

After finally breaking the news to my husband, and watching him disintegrate I discovered Metropolitan Community Church UFMCC and when I started attending.  THis is a "predominately" gay church but is welcoming to everyone.  I still struggle with the guilt over the man I had to leave.  I could stay there and be miserable and let him be content or leave and finish this short live being more content but watching him in pain.   I am still his friend and visit him.

Just to let you know that the MCC is available in most large cities and all over the world.  It is an awesome way to find God in your life and confirm His love.  Please look it up on the WEB.

You don't need a church you need a good dose of the HOLY GHOST. Please do not let the Devil decieve you. I am sure you are a bright smart wonderful human being. And you are LOST. Don't take what I say and what your Metropotitan Gay Church says but I ask you to READ for your self the word of GOD and ask Jesus to help you to understand what you are reading each time you pick it up. And I promise you if you do this you will find you are on the WRONG path. I don't write you out of hate I write you out of love trying to reach out to you before you sink any further in the pit of mire the Devil has made for you. You are better than this please find the truth for yourself before it is too late.

10/19 "I'm Gay, OK?"

Quote From: ratalena

You're right.  What people decide to do is their own decision.  However, do remember that some people speak out about what they believe because of fear of that person's future (Hell).  Some people speak out in love, not hate.
Luke Chapter 14 New Testement of the Holy Bible 14:23 And the Lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and the hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. You see we as Gods children are commisioned to find the lost and wayward and show them a better way. So yes I believe we ultimately all have the right to believe in whatever we want that is why Jesus died on the Cross to give us the choice. My choice is him and I am going to continue to tell others of a better way.

If you have Canadian roots, you should also know that we too have the right to free speech. I personally feel like I am more free to speak my mind here than I ever would be in many places in the US. At least I've never been told by a Canadian that I am going to hell.

To my fellow Canuck: Actually the homosexuals did paint a tiny part of the country in rainbow colours. The steps of the Vancouver City Hall were painted in rainbow stripes for Gay Pride Day this summer! I thought it was pretty. Other than that though, nothing has changed.

I Was "Gay" - Now I'm Married

I struggled with homosexuality until I was 28 years old - well with over 100 men during that time. I was in love with another man who was going to be my long term partner until I left it all in 1992.

Today, I am happily married 12 years to the most beutiful woman in the world. We are the proud parents of two, beautiful children - a boy and a girl.

As a Christian, homosexuality or same-sex attraction is NOT a choice. Just as heterosexual individuals do not CHOOSE to be attracted to the opposite sex, the same must be said for same-sex attracted people.

However, I also believe NO ONE is born homosexual. Mountains of research show homosexuality tragically develops early on in one's childhood due to many different factors.

In any case, ALL INDIVIDUALS deserve love and respect. Yet REAL love is to share the truth with them. Homosexual individuals CAN completely change their attractions. I am one of numerous individuals who are living proof of this.

Today, I have the REAL thing. I am the heterosexual man I was created to be -- and I have never been more happier, fulfilled and affirmed in who I really am.

I meant that just because the original author was Canadian - did not mean that I surmised that other Canadians felt the same way about opinions being expressed, nor did it mean that they were ignorant of the freedom of speech.

I'm glad you were able to find happiness living as a heterosexual man.  However, what worked for you can't be applied to all people.  It didn't work for me and it doesn't work for the majority of people who attempt to "change" their sexuality.  The most I ever got out of any program or any advice from the religious sect is the abilty to supress my attraction to women ~ to ignore it and pretend it was not there.  This never was equated with an opposite attraction to a man, however, nor did it mean that I ever really stopped having those attractions to women.  It never went away despite prayers and pleadings and serious effort into brainwashing myself into believing I could be straight.  Could I physically be in a heterosexual relationship, and married with kids, I could probably make that choice, but it wouldn't mean I really "changed."  At least Im honest with myself, and have found happiness with a partner I feel love and attraction for, and still will have the family (with kids) I have always dreamed of.  Thats MY "Truth."

Yes, I did find happiness. I didn't go through any programs, no conversion, just fell in love with the woman of my dreams.

10/19 "I'm Gay, OK?"

Quote From: hndg2005

It is interesting to see that people with "religion" appear to have all the answers. The answers are not in our minds but to what do we gain our moral and spiritual values. There is none other than the Bible and the Son of God, Jesus Christ. Please read I Cor 6:9 "..do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived.  Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God"...

As you can see we are ALL sinners and I do not set aside the person who is a homosexual as the only person not inheriting the kingdom of the Lord. But only through the love of  Christ are we forgiven and we need to change our way with repentance and lead a life full of the highest moral standards we can be and not the lowest compared to animals. He is the Truth and the Light. God is Love and Good.

Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God"...

The problem with this quotation is that you took it from an English translation of the Bible, and not the Bible itself, which is not written in English (Despite the beliefs of many in this country, Jesus - and Paul- didn't speak English).  The Bible you read is translated to you by people who have an agenda to sell you - and that agenda today includes speaking out against homosexuals.  Notice in older versions of the English Bible, there is no mention of homosexuality, including in that specific verse.  In the time that the Bible was written there was no word for the concept of a homosexual relationship.  The word that is now translated to you to mean homosexual means to describe a situation where an older man would pay money for sex with a younger child, either male or female.  In other words, a pedophile.  Homosexuals are not pedophiles, the two have nothing in common.  I am just as outraged as the next person when children are taken advantage of in such horrible dispicable ways.  However, that has nothing to do with a stable, loving relationship between two consenting adults, whatever their genders may be.

There is no mention in the Bible about homosexuals ~ only words for pedophiles, that are mistranslated today to spread an agenda against decent citizens who are no different than anyone else.  The disservice that is being done to us is despicable, I don't understand how U.S. citizens can fall for such bologna.

What is a "ghost?"

Quote From: wvserenak

For some odd reason, when the King James Version Bible translators encountered the Greek word "pneuma' (spirit) modified by the adjective "hagio" (holy), they did not translate "pneuma" as "Spirit" but as "Ghost." Out of 97 times where the word "ghost" appears in the KJV New Testament, only six of them have to do with a human spirit and each case, the person dies. But, besides those 97 times that "pneuma" appears, there are 253 more times it shows up.

We don't speak Jacobean (King James English) as a country anymore. There is no such thing as a "Metropolitian Gay Church." The Universal Fellowship of the Metropolitan Community Church, aka MCC, is NOT a "gay church." It is a Christian Church denomination which does not limit its membership nor it leaders to those of homosexual orientation. MCC has ordained ministers and pastors who are exclusively heterosexual in their sexual orientation.

People who are ignorant about the history of how the Bible came to be a collection of writings covering several hundred years, with the writings therein not being written after 95 AD, and the fact that those books for the New Testament were not finally put into a collection with the books of the OT Testament and accepted as official canon until 397 AD. Notice that three hundred and two years elapsed from 95 AD when Revelation was written and all of those books which also included the Apocrapha as well as what is in English version Bibles printed in America. The Original King James Version of the Bible had the very same books that the Roman Catholic Bible had and still has. All KJV Bibles printed in United Kingdom Countries still have the same number of books as the original KJV had.

The person who wrote what is in the quote to which I am responding is committing the sin of judging people and he or she is accusing the other person of supposedly unconfessed sin.
