You never think that your family will be hurt by someone you know, let alone someone you once cared for. But that's exactly what happened to one family. The story begins in a small town in Oklahoma, a safe place just like any town in the heartland of America. Donna and Jerry dated for five years, but when Donna tried to break off the relationship, she could never have predicted the lengths to which Jerry would go to hurt her. This real life drama unfolds with horror and violence and unimaginable twists and turns, but ends with a message of hope. See what good Dr. Phil believes can come from an unthinkable tragedy. My deepest sympathy!

I seen today's show and it just tore me up,  I was crying and everything! Let me say that I completely feel for this family, their friends and anyone else who was been effected by this horrible tragedy & they all have my deepest sympathy!!! I also want to say that I think this family & Caitlin's friends have the most  AMAZING courage to have appeared on the show only 2 weeks after this happened to them! They are some of the bravest people I've seen & heard of! Again, I'm soooo sorry for what has happened and you have my deepest sympthy!

Understand the anger and sadness

I just got through watching the show today.  It is so horrible what happened to this family and what is continuing to happen (the worry and fear).  As I watch I can relate somewhat to what they are going through.  The family tragedy was recent but mine was 20+ years ago.

My mother comitted murder/suicide with my 16 year old sister in Dec. 31, 1981.  I was the one who found my sister.  My mother had gotten a handgun a couple of months before, she said for protection!

My mother died instantly and my sister lived for about a week.  It was an awful time of my life.  But I lived through the first couple of years and now 20+ years later I can talk about it.  I suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder.

I am praying that they will be able to get through these first few months, the holidays are the worst!

Praying for the family

I just saw the story of Caitlin Wooten.  My prayers are with all the family and friends of Caitlin.  I am so proud of what you are doing and I can guarantee you Cailtlin is extremely proud of you.  I am a mother who two years ago my life changed forever.  My 17 year old daughter passed away in a car accident.  I know your pain is unbearable now,  take in all the love that is around you now to help you through this tradgedy.  Please know she is always with you, who else is sending you on this mission of changing the laws.  It seems impossible that Jerry was able to get out of jail.  If there is anything I can do to help please let me know.  My family started a non-profit organization to help low income families with children after the passing of our daughter.  I only ask that you try very hard not to live in fear, none of us know what the next moment will be.  We can only live each moment as it comes.

I have some great recommendations for some books to read which helped me a great deal trying just to breathe and get up each day after my daughter passed away.

Horrible.

What a horrible thing to happen. I dont really understand why he got out. Why was he even granted bail in the first place? My thoughts and prayers go to Caitlins family and friends. I know it hurts but remember the good things about her, eventually the pain will subside.

10/25 Deadly Injustice

Quote From: caitlindad

The proposed change would apply to cases, as in Article II, Section 8 of the OK Constitution, where there is a violent offense and a great presumption of guilt. Your statement that an accusation could cause incarceration is incorrect since an accusation deos not carry a great presumption of guilt. Being caught with your captive by a swat team like Savege was carriers a great presumption of guilt. Surely you can allow for a change to stop the the worst of the worst.

Sorry, no.  Until an allegation is proved in court it is simply an allegation.  Changing the law for the most serious accusations, still doesn't change the fact that they are unproved allegations.

saddend

i seen todays show

i was wondering how many times this is going to be allowed to happen .. i'm a firm believer that the justice dept in this country is no good. if some uses a gun for anything ,,, you would think that would be RED FLAGS .... and that the person is mentally unstable ...the cops and the system deal with this all the time ..dont you think by now they would have learned , this person she be sent for some kind of evaluation ...before being let back on the street. most people i know , and in this country ..dont BEHAVE ..in this manner . i'm just a ordinary person , i dont have a degree in justice or police work ,,or a phsycoligist either , but i know the differece between SICK BEHAVIOUR,  and someone who needs help..this guy should have been remanded to a syco ward, when he kidnapped his G/f the first time ..not let out ..me i havent ran into many people in this life that uses guns , against people wills.. so i think the whole system is in denial ..and needs to be changed ....it's just not normal behavoir . GOD BLESS THE FAMILIES AND THE INOCENT THAT HAVE TO KEEP SUFFERING , CAUSE THE LAW DONT RESTORE ORDER . it has to start with the people who are on top ...

The law is the same in Canada - needs to be changed too!!!

I have sat and cried for the past hour watching the show -  I'm so sorry for this family and would like to extend my thoughts and prayers.

The laws need to be changed - they are the same in Canada as they are in the States - we have a situation in our community where a man was charged with 2nd degree murder of his pregnant wife and was released a few weeks later on 10,000 bail - he wants to spend time with his 3 year old daughter - good grief!!!!!  Hasn't that child been thru enough.

Yes it is innocent before proven guilty but Dr Phil is right - there should be some onus on the alleged perpetrator to prove he can be back in society before his trial - not just handed a get out of jail card.  The outrage in this community about the husband I mentioned is strong.

What can we do???
