Dr. Phil and Robin kick off their annual Holiday Extravaganza! They've invited families who had to evacuate their homes and leave everything behind because of Hurricane Katrina, host families who have opened their hearts and homes, and some amazing children who raised money for the relief efforts. It's a special celebration that includes a winter wonderland, celebrity surprises and the best toys and games for some deserving children! Talk about  the show here.

A Big Thank You!

Quote From: gstroop877

I hope many girls in our Troop have seen this show.  We are planning to help out victims of Katrina by doing a book drive for Kiln, Mississippi to help restock their library at Gulfview Elementary.  We are looking for books for grades kindergarten through 5th.  I am using any form of publicity to get the word out.  We already have a trucking company donating a truck to get our cargo out there.  If anyone has any ideas or know any other ways to help us out let me know.  We are from Plainfield, IL.  We are a troop of 25 Girl Scouts.

Thanks.

Michelle

I am from MS and want to say thank you to you girls for thinking about the kids over here!  Your books will be so appreciated and well loved!

This makes me angry

Quote From: basiah1

I am disappointed that you called it a "holiday show".  I will no longer go to stores that do not play Xmas carols, not ever again.  I am just sick to death of placating the liberals who are so afraid they might offend 1 athiest on this CHRISTIAN Holiday.  This country was founded on Christianity, if they don't like it, too bad.  People say that believe and then whimp out when it comes to standing up for it.

I really thought you were different Dr Phil but my opionion is been changing lately.

I think the reason they call it a holiday show is because not everyone in the world is a Christian.  Some people celebrate different holidays.  Besides Everyone with this complaint is missing the whole thing entirely.  IT WAS FOR THE CHILDREN OF THE KATRINA HURRICANE FAMILIES!!!!  It isn't about being mad because Dr. Phil said Holidays show instead of Christmas show.  I wish people would just be thankful that there are people out there who can help these kids who didn't ask for their total life to be completely wiped out. Maybe you and anybody else who feel this way should just be thankful.  PS I am a Christian too. I practice the live and let live, I let other people believe in what they would like not what i want them to believe in.

WHAT A GREAT THING YOU ALL DID

I WAS WATCHING YOUR SHOW THIS WEEK. IT WAS NICE TO SEE THE SMILES ON THE CHILDREN AND PARENTS FACES.  I AM SO GLAD THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE LIKE YOU AND ROBIN AND ALL THE PEOPLE THAT CONTRIBUTED TO EVERYTHING THAT WAS GIVEN. I KNOW THEY WILL NEVER FORGET THIS CHRISTMAS FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES. THIS CHRISTMAS WILL MAKE THEM FELL SO MUCH BETTER FOR ALL THAT THEY HAVE LOST AND HAVE GONE THROUGH.  KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK.

Happy Hanukkah, to you

Quote From: drphilat4

I agree that what Dr. Phil did was wondeful. He provided joy and celebration for people who lost everything and for those that helped them. On the other hand, it did bother me that he called it a Holiday Extravaganza. No, I'm not a conservative Christian. I'm a liberal reform Jew. Were any of the Jewish families who lost everything at the "holiday" party? Were any Jews who helped out from Southern California there? I know at least one synagogue was completely destroyed by the hurricane so there were some Jewish people living there. If they were invited to the holiday party do you think they were comfortable with the fact that Santa was there as well as a Christmas tree, Christmas decorations and a reading of a Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer story? If it's a Christmas Extravaganza then fine, that's what it is. Let's call it what it is!

The other day I took my son to the grocery store and gave him money to deposit in the Salvation Army bucket. The lady volunteer kept saying, "Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!" to us. I said, "have a happy holiday" but it bugged me for while what the proper response would have been. Obviously, if she is telling everyone "merry Christmas" then she celebrates Christmas so I could have just said that back to her. But then she would've assumed we were Christian and although that is not a bad thing to be it is not who we are and I didn't want her to assume everyone who donates to the Salvation Army is Christian and celebrates Christmas. It would have been inappropriate to say "Happy Hanukkah" back to make a point. If I said nothing back, it would've been awkward. I guess I could've said, "Well, we're Jewish but you have a Merry Christmas" but that seems like a lot to say. Anyway....

DrPhilat4

I too have had the experience of the Salvation Army bucket and the volunteer saying,"Merry Christmas!"  I too have said "Have a Happy Holiday" because my family does not celebrate Christmas.  My son also put money into the bucket.  I understand the akwardness of it all, but I don't think it should bother us that we choose to say "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas".  That teaches our children that there is more than one Holiday this month.  I think what you said is a proper response, so stop worrying, and keep saying "Happy Holidays", I know I will!

Katrina Lottery!

I live in Atlanta, Ga., am 62 yrs old, was raised in a family where we were taught hard work and helping those who needed help...........not to give to those whose job was to sponge off of the system.   I was nearly forty before I even knew work was an option.   When Katrina hit I began making arrangement to help in any way possible as I've always been involved with community service, however, when I saw the news footage of those people complaining about the quality of the rations they received I knew I was the last person who should be there.    I'm speaking of the lady who was on the bridge, had received food after several days of nothing and complained saying that she was used to hot food, that our government should give them better, that because they were black they were being treated in this manner.   My word, God doesn't send floods to only black people.........It's random.   However, only the blacks complain and expect everyone else to fix it for them.   These people have won the lottery.   Most of them have never had a home (by choice) as they "stays" at wherever they choose to use, abuse, and pollute without any repercusions from anything they choose to destroy.   I was reared with the knowledge that there were quick, sure reaction to not doing the right thing..........Why are these people allowed to live with different rules?  It appears we've become so politically correct that if you work and pay taxes then you're going to be punished.............If you whine, moan, groan, complain, be as viable a parasite as possible then you're going to be rewarded...........the more you whine, the more you get.

I hope I can take off work long enough to keep tabs on the weather as when there's going to be another disaster I want to go there as quickly as possible as I'd like some relief.   Oops!   That's never work.........I'm white, I work, I pay taxes and we know help is not there for people such as I.

Last but not least, I do thank you for providing this web page in which people as I can at least vent...........It doesn't compare to the homes, furniture, cars, free rides, etc. which is afforded to the worthless but heck, what can a hard working white American expect?

Way to go Dr Phih and Robin

Quote From: bewitched

If you're so disappointed in  the use of the word holiday instead of Christmas and you want to keep Christ as part of the holiday, then quit spelling it XMAS.
I  feel that you really don't know what xmas is about  it is for giving to people  and that is what they did for the kids . How can anyone be disappointed by that? Dr Phih and Robin made the kids so happy. He did  a great thing for the kids. Maybe people need to look at their own lives and do more  for other people  the world would be a better place to live.   GREAT JOB  Dr Phil and Robin

Chrismakawanzahumbug

I am so sick and tired of being politically correct. I went to school with a great deal of Jewish people( I graduated in 1964). I don't know of a single one that was offended with our Christmas program, Christmas parties etc. The Christians knew that they celebrated Hanukkah and not Christmas and vice versa. Let's face it they were probably glad that they were getting to take the time away from school work regardless of what the occasion. If I could have gotten out of class for a menorah candle lighting, I would have been excited..The only thing that the Christians got mad about was that they got off our holidays and their holidays.

It is time for people to grow up and not get so offended!! Maybe if the above title doesn't fit your  belief then you really have a problem.
