Gwen started life with the odds against her. Her father died tragically in a fire the day she was born, and doctors told her mother that because of a life-threatening illness, Gwen probably wouldn't live past the age of 7. For years she struggled with her illness and, just when all hope appeared to be lost, everything changed. Find out why her family believes they have received two miracles this year and what Dr. Phil has planned to make this holiday the best ever for her. Then, David suffers from hemophilia and feels excruciating pain every day. He hasn't been able to work and says the worst part is knowing he is a burden to his family. See Dr. Phil's life-changing surprise for David and his family. Plus, Kathy defied her verbally abusive husband to appear on Dr. Phil recently and determined that she needed out of her relationship. Follow her journey since then and see why she believes her miracle -- is Dr. Phil! Talk about the show here.

Find out what happened on the show.

Haemophilia

I have 2 sons afflicted with Haemophilia Vlll  severe level.  Both boys we're diagnosed early and have been receiving treatments regularly since around 9 months old. While i never thought of their condition as a disease , because it's a disorder, I have never until i watched the show thought of what it will do to them as they grow. I'm scared. If the life that David has had to live is what my boys have in store, i could wish a million things, but not that.  However, knowing that the treatment options today are so much different than David experienced in his youth, i do have hope for the future.  They will probably never suffer as much as David because of modern technology and Knowledge(IE: the Port-o-cath wasn't available when David was young, but both my boys have them) and the support and training that my local Haemophilia program offers me, i have the tools to be a good caretaker, and in later years to help them learn to take care of themselves.  However none of that would be possible without the dedication and loyalty of some of the nurses I have dealt with and learned from.  All my thanks to Nurses for making my life easier.   Merry Christmas David, to you and your family.  I sincerely wish the best for you family, because in a way, it's my family too.

ouch! ouch!

I was the poster who wrote that it must "suck" not believing in anything. I wasn't putting you down, just making an observation that if   I woke up every morning without knowledge that my life made a difference, that my family was loved by God, and that when we get done work here on earth, just for believing we get to go to heaven, I don't know what I would do. And you do seem pretty sensitive about this subject, otherwise you would have never bothered to answer a post, write "I am in control of my universe"

Doesn't de rien mean without care or concern? Then why bother?

Merry Christmas, and enjoy the birthday of Jesus. He loves ya anyway!

howdy hi, there, buckaroo --

yes, you are the person who applied the verb "to suck."  admirable!  you weren't responding to me, in particular.  i wasn't responding to you, in particular.  i was supportive of the lone cry in the wilderness -- one of the few who dared to say something that went against the prevailing sentiment.

i believe that this is still allowed, no?

why are you so upset that you need to deconstruct my screen name?  goodness gracious great balls a'fire!  well, then, at least finish the job?  the "de-rien" is only workable as subordinate to "prof"-- and that's the story of my life.

cherios and fruitloops!

hemophilia BS

This guy missed a heck of an opportunity to educate the public about the tragic history within the hemophilia community. Thousands of people with hemophilia died because blood supply safety was not adequately monitored during the HIV/AIDS crisis. There continue to be concerns and legal battles regarding the negligence of pharmaceutical companies who knew blood products were contaminated yet did nothing.

Still thousands of individuals with hemophilia lead normal, healthy, productive lives despite mounting medical bills and pain. There are married couples within the hemophilia community who have had to divorce in order for the person with a bleeding disorder to qualify for government sponsored health care. This man's struggling, while admirable, is nothing compared to the thousands of people with hemophilia who have lost their lives.

I'm personally repulsed by the notion that this man's experience was help up as a "miracle". What would be a miracle would be patients living with chronic medical condition standing up at every opportunity and highlighting the problems and horrific conditions of our nation's health care system. TV viewers can feel all warm and fuzzy about the triumph over tragedy but unless and until the health care system is restructured, there's nothing warm and fuzzy about living with a chronic medical condition.

Christmas Miracle

David and his family are such an inspiration!  Thank you Dr. Phil for this show.  All of the stories were wonderful and amazing.  And thank you for showing these families that people do care about them.

I can't wait to see David's website.  I'd like to buy some coffee!  :)

I couldn't disagree more.  How can anyone be repulsed by this man's experience?  Miracles happen every day but you have to be willing to see them - even in the every day events - and to be happy for people who have overcome odds.  I'm sorry to hear your negativity.  This family inspires people to be thankful for every day they live.

12/20 Christmas Miracle

Quote From: pookyroy

Well, I havent seen this show yet however believe that I can relate.  I am a 25 yr old woman battling Cystic Fibrosis.  I am currently waiting for a double lung transplant.  I am hopeful and believe that I too, will receive a miracle...if not a Christmas Miracle...then a miracle in the New Year.  I do believe in the power of prayer and believe that attitude has much to do with the healing process so Im keeping my spirits up and hoping for the best.  Miracles happen everyday and I know my day will come.  Ive been witness to several already as I have met many people who have undergone lung, liver and heart transplant.  These miracles have given each and every one of those people a new life...another chance at life!  And its all because someone out there was kind enough to sign their donor card and be that special angel for someone else.  Cant wait for my angel!!    Merry Christmas all and God Bless!  Kristen
kristen i hope your miracle comes soon! (my brother is also waiting to get a new pair of lungs and suffers from cf and hopefully he'll get his soon as well.)  i hope you have a merry christmas!!!

Miracles

I have a daughter who is 2 years old and has Cystic Fibrosis.  I did not see the show and I am sad that I missed it.  I have  also have two boys her are both pretty healthy.  One has to have allergy shots once a week but besides that, they are both great.  It was very shocking news when the told us at 5 weeks old our daughter has Cystic Fibrosis.  It takes a great deal of time with daily meds, using the vest to keep her lungs clear.  Then there are the 3 1/2 trips to the doctors.

I am so happy for Gwen and David, I hope all your dreams come true.  Best of luck to you.

Thanks Dr. Phil

I have an 8 year old daughter that was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis in 2001.  What they showed was all true of the daily tasks these wonderful people go through on a day to day basis, and it only touched part of what these people have to endure.  I found it very rude and inconsiderate for someone to come onto these message boards and post the things they did.  When you sit and watch your child go through those kind of treatments on a daily basis and take more medicine daily than an average senior citizen, then and only then shall you make your judgements.  People with CF and with other diseases do not sit around and "wait" for miracles to happen.  We go out and raise money to fund research to find better treatments, to find a cure!  That is why CF has gone from being an absolutely childhood fatal illness.  Not even 10 years ago the median life expectancy for someone with CF was in their teens, now there are many living into their 30's and beyond.  The saddest part is that it is still fatal.  Until a cure is found those who have it will still continue to die from it.  We have alot of hope for the future, but we still all have to keep working to that common goal....to find a cure.  To those of you who so selfishly posted your rude remarks onto this message board, I will pray for you and your families that you never have to watch your children suffer like these do.  May GOD have mercy on you.  To Dr. Phil and Robin,  I would like to say thank you.   Thank you for making CF and other illnesses be known.  Thank you for at least putting a smile on one of these peoples faces.  Thank you for all you do.

12/20 Christmas Miracle

Quote From: cmego5150

My mother called me this week and told me to watch Dr. Phil today.  I was a classmate of David in elementary school.  I remember him as extremely pleasant and fiercely competitive (as was I).  As a kid, I knew he was sick and remember my mom telling me he was not expected to live long.  Seeing the way he has lived his life is a testimony to his God, his family, and his determination.  I've been experiencing new aches and pains since reaching the ripe old age of 40, but watching his story today brought me to tears as I think about how little discomfort my life has brought me compared to the pain he has lived with his entire life.  It humbled me.

David, you are remarkable.  Your wife is brave and strong and your children are a blessing.  May God grant you many more years with less pain.  I hope to order some of your coffee--I'm a coffee affecianado, as well...would like to be among your first customers.

I really enjoyed the show with David and his family too. Do you have any idea of how we will be able to research and find David's web site. I love roasted flavor coffee, and would love to buy from David. Also what school, in what city did you attend?

I am originally from Louisville, Kentucky, and remember someone like this too. Just wanted to know if I was remembering the right guy.

Thanks to Dr. Phil and Robin, I have been watching Dr. Phil since he had his Tuesday appearances with Oprah
