I so relate to these stories

I have never had a show that I have related to more than this show on weight loss. With every guest you spoke to I felt as if you were speaking to me.

Nicole, at 380 lbs and her numerous medical problems. I weighed 300 lbs. I had 4 surgeries on my legs in 2003 and after 6months could not walk without a cane or walker. I had to loose or never walk normally again. With the help of Dr. Phils book I lost 120 lbs. But as he told Nicole, it is a life stile change not a diet. I found myself slipping back into my old habits after my Dr. told me I was doing too much, too fast. Now I have gained 25lbs back. I'm am back to my weight loss life stile and have already lost 4lbs of that 25.

The lady that lost 117 lbs and how happy she was is me now. I am so thrilled with my weight loss and I have never been more proud of anything I've accomplished in my life. The natural high you get when people walk up to you and are shock at your weight loss is better than any drug you could take.

The last lady i felt so sorry for. I too am dealing with the excess skin, mainly on my legs. I have scares from 500 stiches from my numerous surgeries and the saggy skin only makes them more prominate. The difference is that No matter how bad or saggy I look I feel it is a far cry better than what I looked like at 300lbs. So yes that is a down side to weight loss but it is still better than being so heavy. I guess I've just accepted that that is how I'm going to look and I'd better live with it.

Thank you Dr. Phil for all your inspiration and your great book.

Wednesday Jan 4 Show

Hi everyone.  I have not wanted to post a message until I saw Kristine on the show yesterday.  I am a stay-at-home mom since Dec 1999 and have struggled with weight tremendously since having our 3 children.  I related to Kristine so much because I always have an excuse, I have no time for myself, to keep myself in shape.  I usually start out okay and then always go back to the same unhealthy habits.  Kristine....if you read this, you inspire me to strive for more for myself and for my family !!  I applaude you, especially doing this without your husband being with you everyday.  I just decided the other day that if I could take 15 minutes here and there to fit in more exercise, that would make a BIG difference.  I would love to get some ideas from everyone as to 15 minute exercise ideas.  I have some 20 minutes tapes but I also don't want that to be an excuse for not doing those.  Please help me to stay on track.  I have about 40-50 lbs to lose, I want to give my kids a healthy, energetic mom who can model healthy behaviours.  Thanks everyone.

01/04 Unforgettable Weight Stories

Quote From: shawn_m

I would like to point out to those of you who are complaining or are scared of having loose skin.  What is more important to you in the long run?  Do you want to lose the weight and live or stay overweight, be ridiculed, and finally die at a young age while having people gawk at your titanic coffin at your funeral?  Either way you look at it, the only benefit is to lose the weight and live.  Even if you do have loose skin, you'll be alive and you'll be thin.  Skin can also be removed!  Don't make 'appearance' an issue when it's really your LIFE that is in danger!

Also, I would like to point out something.  Weight training helps A LOT when it comes to tightening skin.  Lifting heavy weight causes your body to increase a hormone called HGH (Human Growth Hormone).  This hormone is responsible for the tightening of skin and the enlargement of muscle.  The more muscle you have, the less chance you'll ever gain back any of that weight since every pound of lean muscle you gain, your body burns approximately 50 to 100 more calories per day.  So if you lift weights you'll become stronger and have less loose skin as a result!

I know a lot of women seem to be 'scared' of weight lifting because they think they'll end up looking like a professional body builder, but this is NOT the case.  Professional female bodybuilders take steroids.  If you're not juicing, you're not going to look like that.  You'll gain some muscle tone and lose a lot of fat just by lifting weights!  Don't be afraid of the dumbbells ladies!  They ARE your friends!
What you've said was interesting but there are differences between men and women.  Men's skin will firm up more quickly then a woman's and with the amount of weight that one woman lost on the show weight lifting will not completely get rid of it.  As for the skin being able to be removed, do you not realize that it costs money to do that!  I've heard of someone having a tummy tuck done and it cost them around $5,000.  With the amount of skin that woman has on her it would've taken a lot more then $5,000 to get rid of it.

I know how she feels

I too have lost over 100 lbs. I feel the same as the girl on the show. The extra skin makes everthing worse.  You think when you loose weight everthing will be picture perfect, but it is not.I don't think my boyfriend has seen me naked in 3 years. You think you can lose weight and then you will look good. Far from it!!! My body has all this extra skin and stretch marks, it's gross! You will not be able to wear that two peice bathing suit or all those cute clothes without people seeing that stuff. Well i hope she will be way happy after the plastic surgery. I wish it was me getting it.

I hired a personal trainer who is a body builder also, he helped me lose weight  and I use to be a size 12 and went down to a size 6.  I got too thin where my friends was thinking I was on drugs, my face was all sunked in. And still I thought I  still needed to lose weight,  I have a severe eating disorder, when I hired my personal trainer I did not realize it was triggering my eating disorder.  I go to the gym 5 days a week and run 5-6 miles a day, plus worked on the machines this is what my personal trainer had me to do. I have not been at the gym for a while, now I'm going to start back up tomorrow. I've been so busy around the holidays, have not had time to do anything.  Excercise and eating right is healthy for all of us, like Dr Phil said diets fail and I agree.

You mention that you have a severe eating disorder. I am curious to know how you feel about the statement one of surgeons made that "Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels."

I have an adult daughter who is fighting an eating disorder and I take great exception to his remark.  I cannot believe Dr. Phil did not edit it out of the tape. Eating disorders can lead to death and that fact leaves a very bitter taste.

Good luck in you battle.

Hi Andrea.  My name is Niki.  I have found a simple but very affective way to exercise in a hurry.  I have an exercise ball that I have been using as fast exercise.  I've found that sit ups on the ball are more comfortable and more affective than normal situps or crunches on the floor. You can do it in a hurry and you can feel the burn when you are finished.  If you start out slow and easy it's a great and fast workout.  Just thought I'd try to help.

01/04 Unforgettable Weight Stories

Quote From: dilligf

DRINK AT LEAST 8 GLASSES OF WATER BETWEEN MEALS AND TRY TO CUT YOUR PORTIONS DOWN LITTLE BY LITTLE THAT WAY YOUR BODY DOES NOT THINK YOU ARE STARVING IT. TELL WHOM EVERY CHOOSES YOUR FOOD FOR YOU THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO LOSE WEIGHT AND TO START BUYING LIKE LOW IN SODIUM FOODS AND SALAD MIX LOW FAT ITEMS. THEY DO NOT HAVE TO BUY IT FOR THEM BUT TO HELP YOU. AND IF THAT DOES NOT WORK GO SEE A DOCTOR AND HAVE THEM MAKE A DIET AND EXERCISE PLAN FOR YOU. YOU NEED TO PUT YOUR MIND TO IT AND YOU CAN DO ANYTHING.

Britt-I completely understand what you are going through.I am 18 years old and I live at home with my mom.Our parents buy our food, but we choose what we eat.If you know something is unhealthy, you can choose whether or not to eat it.If it is absolutely necessary for you to eat unhealthy foods, eat smaller portions. My problem was that I felt like I had to eat everything on my plate. That's untrue.Eat slowly and only eat until you're full.Something that is helping me is to drink a glass of water before every meal.It helps you to feel full and you tend to not eat as much. When you are still in school and living at home, it is difficult to lose weight, but we just have to tell ourselves that we can do it.  I would love to have an e-mail buddy around my age that is trying to lose weight too.  If you would like to e-mail me, my e-mail address is NikiNicole05@hotmail.com

I believe that saying first showed up during his orginal weight loss challenge shows.  I could be wrong but I do love the saying.   I also know people with eating disorders who don't think that saying means a thing as the disorder refuses to let them feel that way.   I'm not at the goal I want to be, still have around 50 to loss.   I've lost over 75 and kept it off over a year now and am ready to start the journey again.

I do truely feel that "nothing tastes as good as being thinner feels"

Obesity leads to more deaths that eating disorders that I feel you are referring to.   Actually when you think of it, obesity is also an eating disorder.   hummmmm

Wishing you good health and praying our daughter finds solutions that fit her situation.

01/04 Unforgettable Weight Stories

Quote From: rguedel1

Does anyone know if Dr. Phil is doing another weight loss challenge?

I also would love to see another one.     I'd also love to see a reunion of the first 13.   I've heard that some are doing just wonderful and that others haven't done as well.   But isn' t that real life???

Dr. Phil says we need to get (and stay) real or we will get Real Fat.    So seeing how those real people are doing a couple years later would be beneficial to those of us who just aren't sure what real is now days.

Hey staff, are you listening????
