Do you believe that walking under a ladder or someone giving you the "evil eye" can give you bad luck? Dr. Phil's guests say that curses and evil spirits are wreaking havoc in their lives. Sarah is convinced that she's hexed. For the last five years, she has been plagued with what she calls the "Tuesday Curse." Watch what happens when Dr. Phil's producers follow her around on her "unlucky" day. Then, George is convinced he is reaping the negative effects of a curse put on his family years ago in Mexico. He has even put his wedding plans on hold because he fears the curse will cause him to divorce! Plus, David worries that his wife, Holly, may be possessed because she has had the same nightmare for the past seven years, and she has been talking in a man’s voice, speaking in a foreign tongue and barking like a dog. What's behind her fearsome dreams? And, a woman claims an exorcism, performed by her father 26 years ago, put demons inside of her.  Share your thoughts.

A message from Holly

I've read all the messages and have placed thought to each one.  The truth is... I'm not sure what these dreams or nightmares are, but I am sure of one thing - faith.  Each episode I’ve had, resulted in the defeat of evil and re-enforced my belief that goodness does prevail.

I also dream of people before their death – these are people I haven’t seen in many years only to discover of their demise in the newspaper.

I will continue to put thought (both spiritual and scientific) in my research of these episodes.

Thank you for sharing your experiences and the valuable information you have provided.

01/05 "Am I Cursed?"

Quote From: ga1960

As I was growing up, my sister that was 19 years my elder, always said I was worthless and she would make me pay someday.  She had such evil in her eyes that it was like she was putting a curse on me.  She never accepted my birth to my parents late in life at the ages of 40 and 44.  She always said I took them away from her time.  To make a long story short, she was a horrible and truly hateful person.  No matter what good things I did she would always mastermind a scam to convince others I wasn't a good person.  I always tried to be good to people and I had alot of great  friends that also noticed her evil ways.  She even told my husband  (before we were married) that he was too good for me and I didn't deserve him.  I  never had a chance with her.  She especially lost it after the birth of my son, since she had 4 girls.  She wouldn't talk to me and behind my back, she would tell people in our community how we didn't want a son.  So, needless to say we lost contact with her.
After many years of loneliness, she passed away last year at age 63, leaving 4 beautiful grown daughters, 8 grandchildren and 3 ex-husbands, that she always belittled as well.  Since then, my family has had many hardships and heartaches and I truly believe it's her watching over us, making me pay and my son to deal with many problems as well.  There are just too many coincidences that have occurred for us not to believe she has cursed our lives.  Our life without her was very normal until the day of her death?   I have also had reoccurring nightmares as well.

As difficult as it may be - forgive your sister.  After all, it was your sister who mostly suffered from whatever it was that she was tormented by.  Everything you experienced was merely a spin-off from her suffering and you most likely were not alone, even your husband was effected by her scornfulness, ask him.  It sounds like your sister may in fact have been cursed, whether it be spiritually or mentally.  I hope that deep down you will wish that she had been able to live life with a deeper sense of peace within herself.  If you pray, say a prayer for your sister that she will be forgiven and can perhaps move on.

Faith in God will lift all your burdens off your shoulders.  You might give faith a try if you haven't already.  It'll help you to understand better (not only what you have been through) but will help you endure better all you will have to go through in the future.

Spiritual Child Abuse

What happened to the woman who underwent "exorcism" at the hands of her father was a victim of child abuse pure and simple. This man was able to derive temporal power and status within a small community of similarly deluded people because of his "ability" to perform "exorcisms". So he did a lot of them. Some apparently were done on people who either didn't want them or were not in a position to consent to them. Like this unfortunate woman. What was done to her was a kind of spiritual rape. This should have been explained to her. Also, I find it curious how the Dr.'s "neutrality" on the subject of spirituality evaporates when the practicioner is a "psychic" for hire. The possessed woman's father took a lot more from his followers than a measly ten bucks. And just as a sex abuse survivor is robbed of the chance for normal development, so was this woman robbed of the chance for normal spiritual development.

spiritual vs. physical...

Quote From: janemitche

My daughter and husband have grand mal epilepsy (both under control and seizure free for many years, thanks for  wondering).  The disease that  Jesus cured by putting the spirits possessing a young man into pigs which ran off a cliff.
This is a brain disorder  which  can be very frightening for the onlooker especially if they have had their heads filled with exocism movies or  uninformed religious  teachings.  The  person  can make all kinds of  weird noises and  jerks.
Some seizures come in the night  and at first I thought  Dr. Phil was going to tell the women with the sleep disorder to get a medical check up.  This is also a good idea for  involuntary  noises(turets),  panic attacks(diabetes), odd behavior (tumors),  rhythmic or out of it behaviours in children ( autism, epilepsy).
I guess I am taking Dr. Phil to task for not mentioning getting a medical check up when posession seems the cause.  (But I hate to do that, I don't want to be on the show!!!)

BTW, never put a spoon in an epileptic's mouth, turn them on their  side and clear the space of pillows and obstructions.  If the seizure lasts more than 10 to 15 seconds(It will seem waaay longer) or they have never had one before, call 911.

The Bible clearly states there was not a disease, but demonic possession in those men, which Jesus casted the evil spirits out into the pigs. God says all He created was good, so, anything that is not of Him, CAN be healed through faith and prayer. We prayed over a family and girls who had hauntings and the girl also has Graves Disease for almost 2 years. After we left, the family contacted us 2 weeks later, and she was 100% cured. That was God overcoming the demonic influence it had over this girls for her occult use- all is well with them to this day.

I dont say rule out doctors, but try God first- He is the way!

Nightmare Lady

In regards to the woman experiencing nightmares for seven years, my thoughts are, did she attend a seance or play with an ouija board prior to having nightmares?

Same here!

Quote From: natania

I believe in demons and curses because i was once a victim, i never new until i got into a serious relationship wih GOD. but i thank GOD for his mercy. And since then i just knew as much as i know my name that i was free. it's very real and there are spiritual forces in this world we don't see but i tell you they are there, and believing it or not won't changed the fact that it's true. I'm a believer of jesus christ and one thing i'm sure of is that in him is liberty from anything.

Its like I wrote that myself! I was in the same boat, an donly the power of God helped me. Thats why I have the opnions that I do, thats why I do the work that I do...I have been on both side of the fences...the dark side, with diesease and such...and now God's side, of power and healing.

I am so happy for you that you were rescued and open in taling about it and praising the source for your life!

bad dreams of fighting demons

I too use to have dreams where I dreamed that demons came after me during my sleep and would throw me around the room and would cause me to elevate to the ceiling, etc.  They would scare me to death almost. and seemed extremely real and I would wake up with my heart pounding out of my chest.  Then like Dr. Phil suggested I started attending a local church regulary, got into reading the Bible, etc.  Now everytime the dream starts I very calmly say in the dream, "In Jesus name, get thee behind me Satan."  Immediately the nightmare  ends and I wake up and they are almost non-existant now.  In fact I can't even remember how long it has been since I have had one and I use to have them frequently.  In a way I am using the symbolism they talked about because this is a quote from the Bible and according to Bible we cast out demons in Jesus name and power so this phrase is very symbolic for me and works!  I am a therapist and have told some of my religious clients to try the same and it has worked for them as well when they are plagued by bad thoughts and nightmares.  In fact it is amazing to me that most the patients I see are in some kind of spiritual crisis and I do not believe that is a coincidence.

exorcisms....been there

My heart goes out to the young woman who's father performed exorcisms and tried to perform one on her.

As a young woman I went to what seemed to be a normal church, the pastor started preforming exorcism. Soon everything was a demon and the women in the Church became the main target for  exorcism.  You could not trust anyone, if  you said anything that "rub another person the wrong way" Or if they just had a "feeling" about  you they would turn you into the pastor.  It was like living in Salem during the witch hunts.

I knew it would be hard to leave because my friends and life were there and on top of that  I was  employed by the church.   I realized that my normal Christian church had grown to a destructive cult. I walked out during a meeting never to look back or have any regrets in my decision.

It's been over 20 years .  I thing of myself as a very lucky person some of my friends  were not as lucky.   Some have died because they did not get the medical help they should have had.  Families were destroyed. Friendships torn apart.  Some of the people involved just went on to other cult like groups.

I can not even imagine what todays guest has been through. She too will be a survivor.  It may take time , hard word and a lot of tears but she will make it.

Do you believe you are? Then YOU ARE!

Do you know the saying "You are what you eat"?? well the same is true for being cursed just as having a miracle happen! If you believe it, you will become it! Hey, first of all the only people who think they can be cursed are people who believed in the devil and evil, etc.

Now I am very spiritual and was raised catholic, obviously not by choice, i just could not get convinced by one fact, if you do harm and you tell your priest, say they right prayers, you are FORGIVEN??? As a believer of our criminal system (yes, it needs work and it;s not perfect but the theory works) if you commit murder and you repent all is well an you go to heaven??? what about the soul of the person you killed, did they forgive you? did their family? is it not a crime?Sorry here on earth it is, no matter how highly your particular higher spirit forgives you, you are still going to jail. Miracles do happend, people who have cancer do get cured, is it prayer? is it the belief of the person that if they do something, prayer, meditation, etc. It is simply that YOU BELIEVE!!! no matter what religion you practice, if you believe, it will happend.  Life is simple, be a good citizen, be honest, be humble, be compassionate and you will go where you want to go when you die. Do bad things happend to good people, yup. How do explain what happens to children, when they have not lived long enough to SIN. BELIEVE IN GOOD, BE GOOD!

ITS NEVER TOO LATE

Quote From: kmarie225

When I was young, my sisters and their friends had a seance in our house and used the weedge board alot. I was not religious growning up and don't believe in God or the Devil or evil spirits or angels. But as time has gone by, I have thought that I am cursed. My mother was the 20th child of 22 born to the same parents and has had a hard, uneducated life, caught in the 'cycle of abuse'. So I feel that if her parents would have only had a few kids and her not be born, in turn I would not be here or my children and grandchildren, I wouldn't have all of the bad things happen to me and maybe my husband would have had a better life. We have never had good luck of any kind. I am grateful to have a roof over my head, a job to help with financially and a husband that is caring and not abusive in any way. But I feel guilty because I feel cursed and he could have done better without me. I feel cursed because we never seem to be able to get ahead. Everytime I save alittle money and get caught up on bills, something else comes up and there goes the savings. I recently lost my job and took the first part time job that was offered just to keep money coming in. My husband had an injury at work five years ago and has never really recovered fully. He is currently back in a doctors care. He has kept his job through all the pain and days missed, he has suffered with this injury and still keeps going. Our oldest daughter and her husband lost their house due to medical bills and moved in with us, our middle daughter is getting divorced after five years of marriage, our son keeps losing jobs due to his asthma and our youngest daughter has missed more school in the last four years than she's been there. No doctor can tell us why, she's been tested for alot of things and they keep telling us there is nothing wrong with her. Our oldest daughter, her husband, my husband, our son and myself all have different forms of arthritis I also have Menires Disease and our oldest daughter is on many medications for other physical problems. We live from paycheck to paycheck and are always one step from being homeless.I know people have hardships and ups and downs in life, but I think we've had more than our share. I called a debt consolidation place to lump my bills and get them paid off and they gave me a monthly quote that I couldn't possibly afford. I can't get a consolidation loan because I don't own anything but an old car. I really don't know how people make it in this world and I'll be glad when I'm old and my life is over. Don't suppose I could have a do over? karen
