Do you believe that walking under a ladder or someone giving you the "evil eye" can give you bad luck? Dr. Phil's guests say that curses and evil spirits are wreaking havoc in their lives. Sarah is convinced that she's hexed. For the last five years, she has been plagued with what she calls the "Tuesday Curse." Watch what happens when Dr. Phil's producers follow her around on her "unlucky" day. Then, George is convinced he is reaping the negative effects of a curse put on his family years ago in Mexico. He has even put his wedding plans on hold because he fears the curse will cause him to divorce! Plus, David worries that his wife, Holly, may be possessed because she has had the same nightmare for the past seven years, and she has been talking in a man’s voice, speaking in a foreign tongue and barking like a dog. What's behind her fearsome dreams? And, a woman claims an exorcism, performed by her father 26 years ago, put demons inside of her.  Share your thoughts.

You are right on the mark!

Quote From: xavierann

I fully agree with you, Jesus and the Bible are real and I'm a full believer.  I think you misunderstand me.  I am saying that there are pleanty of deceiving people out there who desire to use the "idea" of a curse in order to manipulate and frighten people, and gain psychological controll over others, which may "feel" alot like real demon posession, but is really anxiety, depression, and so forth.  I don't deny that there are real demonic forces out there, but I think it is largely over-sensationalized, and just wanted to share "how" psychics do things, and "how" some of the bad ones use the "idea" of a curse to manipulate and spiritually abuse.  Not only psychics, but some Christians out there as well, like the young lady's father, who, no doubt was brain-washed into believing that everything he saw was "demon posessed" - he used exorcisms to gain mental controll over other people, including his children and messed them up. In this way he claimed "special spiritual knowledge" much like psychics claim to have, believing and teaching that he could "sense" presences that no one else could see or feel.  In this way he took false authority over thers inorder to controll them, keep them in a false spiritual system, and spiritually abuse them and teach them to abuse others as well.  How many pentacostals out there are shouting "demon possesed" from every corner?  I'm never going to find out, as I won't go to a pentacostal church - ever.   The catholic church got caught in this loop back in the 1500's and has since refrained from declaring anyone demon-possessed and "up for an exorcism" without extensive psychological evaluation.  While they have finally got their smarts on, the rest of Chrstianity is finally catching up where they left off and we have fanatics running around declaring everyone out there "demon posessed".  It's happened to me a million times at church, specifically when a fellow christian wanted to claim authority over me to get me to pay in more, work harder, give up a coveted position to them, or become "more obedient" - sorry, i'm not falling for this "i'm more spiritual than you are" gag.  I've even been told by supposed christians that "I have the spiritual gift of discerning spirits...." - ya right,  What discernment means is the ability to make a decision, and you do that by learning what the Bible teaches and then making a rational decision - that's discernment.  And what spirits do you discern between? Between the Holy Spirit, whose teachings you should know if you read your bible (nothing miraculous there), and spirits that tempt you to do immoral things the Bible teaches against - you don't need any special spiritual equipment to use common sense or to read!  Alot of Christian people need to get over their pride when pretending to display these artificial spiritual gifts in order to gain one-upmanship over others.  Psychic readings?  A SKILL you can LEARN like math or piano.   So are the spiritual "words of knowledge" you hear about on TBN and in radical churches - the whisperings of the spirit and so fortth! YOur feelings, and what mode of spirituality you actually tap into?  Your own God-given talent at your natural inner intuition, but science can not prove anything beyond that.  You believe in God, but other faiths have the same experiences, both good and bad...It is your faith in God and helping others that is the genuine gift to other people in need.  So I'm just saying "watch out for Spiritually Abusive frauds no matter what religious institution you step into, Pentacostal, Southern Baptist, Catholic, Buddhist, Jewish, New Age, or etc."  I think many American people do not know the "facts" about how a psychic reading is done, and do not know the "facts" on spiritual abuse, or that it can happen to them in their own "neighborhood" (congregation).  Wolves wearing sheeps clothing are among us in all groups, not just "the other group."  I hope you receive this well and in the spirit of Christ's love, as I do  not discount your experiences, I am just saying some people out there deliberately deceive and frighten in order to spiritually abuse and controll the innocent.  That's all.

You are a very insightful spiritual person.  As a practising Catholic for many years I do believe you are very accurate in your analagies. Keep up the good work

Same

Quote From: lgotwalt2

I watched the show today about the curses/hexes, etc.  I believe I may be 'cursed', but not do to emotional problems.  Back in July, I awoke with strange mark on my chest.  I showed my friends and family members, nobody has ever seen anything like it.  I showed it to a doctor (not mine) and he thinks it was from a button, but that is not the case.  See for yourself.  If anyone has any ideas where I can get an answer, please advise.  I wish I could blame it on emotional problems or think positive, but I don't think Dr. Phil would know either.  Thank you

I also see the Sacred Heart Of Jesus in there!!!

Help for Sharon

Sharon,

I was so hurt to watch your face as you talked of the effect that your 'exorcism' and your upbringing had on you.  God is so very different from that view of merely purging evil.  For the spiritual component of following Dr. Phil's advise, I offer you two suggestions.  The first is very simple.  Read the Barbara Kingsolver novel "the Poisonwood Bible".  It is an amazing book to which you might find that you relate.

The second suggestion is to look at an organization called the Self Realization Fellowship.  Not a 'religion', they teach a form of meditation called Kriya Yoga that has the express goal of finding God and your own soul in the process.  Paramahansa Yogananda, the last guru, teaches that the only real 'sin' is separation from God.  SRF emphasises not the battle against evil, but the struggle to reach our highest self, our most divine potential.  While being deeply powerful and spiritual, it is a different (yet familiar) way to look at God and even at Jesus than you get from many Christian Churches.  It would give you a way to keep God and Jesus in your heart while releasing the vernacular and ideas that have hurt you so deeply.  You can find information on their website, which is www.yogananda-srf.org or by reading Paramahansa's book "Autobiography of a Yogi" or any of his other works, available at most bookstores.  This is just a suggestion.  You'll know when you look whether this is the best path for you to try or not.  Paramahansa also teaches that all things came from God and to God all things will eventually return.  Trust that you will find your path and trust that simply by existing, you are beloved of God and worthy of God's love.  Good luck to you in your journey, spiritual, and mental/emotional.

Dream

Quote From: superdl1

Usually dreams mean the opposite of what you think. It probably has nothing to do with the snake or dog. You may feel, in your mind that someone is out to get you at work or somewhere. Someone is trying to hurt you. This could be in your mind as such. It could be that you are feeling that you are running and not getting anywhere in your life.  Or you are running toward something, but your are afraid of the outcome. e.g. A relationship. You may want it but are afraid of being hurt. Thanks

I would love to take a stab at this dream, but I would need to know a little bit more about you.  I know that the beings are that of evil!  There is no doubt about that!  But how the dream fits into your life could be many things.

Holly's Dreams

I understand what Holly has been going through. I have had what I call my scary scary Steven King dreams from age 7 to age 35. I was plagued by them for so long and some times it would take a couple of days to get over them. I would tell my husband that if I wanted to, I could make millions on making movies out of them, but I would never subject others to the hideous things I saw/experienced in my dreams.  (They were VERY MUCH like what Holly described.) I had to finally come to a realization a couple of years ago that if I wanted these dreams to go away, I had to decide to be in control and not let these types of things control me.  Yes, I have had a relationship with God my whole life, which I feel has helped me through a lot, (some people may or may not believe that, but each person has their own beliefs which certainly help each of us).

I did not grow up really believing about "good or bad spirits", until this kept happening to me. BUT, it finally took me making a conscious decision to be the driver of my life, awake or asleep. I know that sounds SO easy, but I understand that it absolutely is not!  Like anything else, it is a continuous effort, but I just wanted to say that regardless of what you do or do not believe and as scary as it can be.....there IS HOPE!!!!!

Use Doctors first

Quote From: heidik

The Bible clearly states there was not a disease, but demonic possession in those men, which Jesus casted the evil spirits out into the pigs. God says all He created was good, so, anything that is not of Him, CAN be healed through faith and prayer. We prayed over a family and girls who had hauntings and the girl also has Graves Disease for almost 2 years. After we left, the family contacted us 2 weeks later, and she was 100% cured. That was God overcoming the demonic influence it had over this girls for her occult use- all is well with them to this day.

I dont say rule out doctors, but try God first- He is the way!
Heidi

Epilepsy IS NOT caused by demons and neither is GRAVES DISEASE.  Neither are chicken pox or avaian flu or cancer or a host of medical diseases.  Is this board  in the year 2006 or the middle ages?  If  you are sick go to a doctor. If you have a mental illness see a doctor who will refer you to  the proper specialist.
As for the  man and the demon pigs. The symptoms are classic grand mal.  I have no doubt Jesus cured him, but  He also was in a time when people knew nothing about the body  and disease, including even no idea of the existance of germs. Besides, He was making a point about his divinity, which is why the writers of the gospel, who also knew nothing about disease as we know about it, told the incident.
Prayer has a place in healing but God can't help you if you don't help yourself. by seeing a physician.

Driving Demons Out of Your Life

My heart went out to the woman whose father performed an "exorcism" on her when she was 11. What our parents believe about us has a powerful influence on what we initially believe about ourselves. If I thought that demons were bothering me, I would think like this: First of all, remember that demons frequently plague good people. Even Jesus was tempted by demons. Demons want to come between you and God, so PRAY! You don't need to know a lot about it, just pray from your heart, asking God for protection. There is a sweet little book called God's Psychiatry, which explains the meaning of the 23rd Psalm, and recommends saying it 5 times a day. I did this for a short while it it brought miracles into my life. Then, I would do some good things for people who need it, like volunteer at a hospice or a soup kitchen a couple hours a week. Maybe visit a staterun nursing home to cheer the the sick lonely poor. A little unselfish Good Works goes a long way, you will be amazed to find out that you can be part of God's work, you can be His servant, even just a few hours a week, and it will give you a lot of happiness. God Bless, Anjeli

exorcism

It is the funniest thing.  I was out with a friend today and we were talking about exorcism.  I was then surprised to learn that was the topic today on the show - Jan. 4, 2006.  The friend said that there was a boy who was the age of 9 in Europe and he had exorcism.  There has been a documentary about this little boy some time ago.  He had a terrible time with it.  As it turned out this friend did not have much faith in the Catholic faith, and the person is Catholic, but the person said that when he learned that this little boy was treated by the help of an Arch-bishop and two priests from Spain the exorcism was removed after a lot of work.  This was the only group that could help him be cured.  This also helped this person gain a renewal in the Catholic faith as much as he really wasn't that interested in the faith anymore.  Then it also pleasantly surprised me that Dr. Phil recommended that the person on the show look into spiritual help or something to that effect.  Right on the mark!  I think we can overcome a lot with a true faith in God!  Good luck and best wishes to those who suffer from this terrible delima.  Hope this helps you in some way.

i have had first hand experience myself

Quote From: drramirez

I believe you dede 7007.   It is only when you have experienced firsthand that you know these forces are real.  I have a similar history to yours so I don't think that you are in any way ridiculous.  Please tell me how you overcame and what your experiences.  No one I know believes me except my family but we are not yet all free from this experience.  I believe in God and pray for Jesus to protect me.  Do you have other suggestions?

drramirez333@yahoo.com

Just from reading the different post on this message board, what dede7007 is saying is truth.  I was also set free from generational curses or generational things handed down to me.  I would love to talk to you sometime, & also to dede7007.

Holly - I DO understand - You are in my thoughts

Quote From: itsme1234

I've read all the messages and have placed thought to each one.  The truth is... I'm not sure what these dreams or nightmares are, but I am sure of one thing - faith.  Each episode I’ve had, resulted in the defeat of evil and re-enforced my belief that goodness does prevail.

I also dream of people before their death – these are people I haven’t seen in many years only to discover of their demise in the newspaper.

I will continue to put thought (both spiritual and scientific) in my research of these episodes.

Thank you for sharing your experiences and the valuable information you have provided.

Holly, I posted a response to your dream situation earlier. You may see it as well. I have had the same experiences my whole life and dreamed 2 weeks before my mother died that she would die when I was 7. I also dreamt of what my children would look like in my 5th month of pregnancy and they were exactly as I saw them. I am not a "freaky" person or whatever label someone might want to place, but I can tell you this, you are obviously a very strong woman. You CAN overcome this with your faith and with the love and support of your husband, these dreams can subside. I believe as you do that faith will truly help you through this. I will be praying for you and will keep you in mind. I know, I've been there.
