Topic : 01/05 "Am I Cursed?"

I too suffered emotional abuse and physical abuse from my mom.  I made it my life's goal to learn how to help others get past  this and went to school to be a therapist.  One of the most powerful things one of my professors said to me is "You let your mom ruin the first 20 years of your life, are you going to let her ruin the next 20?"  I have studied many theories of personality and the combination of spirituality coupled with cognitive-behavioral techniques with a little bit of Rogerian unconditional positive regard has served me and my patients best.  For example, when you have an overly controlling mother you tend to become perfectionistic trying to win her love and approval as a child, thus you believe if you just did the right thing she would love you.  The problem with that is you become a people pleaser and you lose yourself in the process till the real you splinters off and you look in the mirror and you don't know who you are, what you like etc.  We say that your mom gave you the message of conditional love that if you do the right thing she will love you.  What you need to learn is that if conditional love got you there, it is unconditional love that heals you but you don't get it from other people.  If you try to get it from other people and they have a bad day you are at their mercy and not in control.  Yout get unconditonal love from yourself.  You learn how to pat yourself on the back when you do something good, not depend on others to notice or praise you.  Spirituality has this same concept called Agape love or the idea that I love you no matter what you do, I might not like what you do, but I will always love you.  Learning to be your own best friend and love yourself is not easy.  It takes a lot of unlearning.  That's where the cognitive approach works (or as Dr. Phil refers to it as negative self-talk.)  Anyhow that is a brief synopsis of how to heal.  Use everything and cover all your bases, medicine, exercise, surround yourself with positive people, therapy if needed, self-help books, and the icing on the cake is the spirituality put back in.  Good luck and God bless you.

As I was watching today's (1/6/06) show, I was hoping that Dr. Phil would help his guests by pointing out the folly of their "cursed" mindsets. And, indeed, he made some small progress on that score. But towards the end of the show, he says something to the effect that it's a good idea to have mirrors and candles in the bedroom to ward off evil, or something like that. (The audience nodded in agreement.) What kind of claptrap is that? Does he have any scientific or even anecdotal evidence to back up this nutty claim? The fact is, when these stories of demonic possessions, exorcisms, curses and other supernatural events are walked around the block a couple times in the light of day, there is never any substance to be found. Take for example, the guy with the three car accidents, the leaky roof and the overflowing commode. He should talk to my cousin's husband, who's dying of throat cancer. Ditto for the witless girl with her "unlucky" Tuesdays, or the other guests on the show. It's high time people -- Dr. Phil -- included -- begin putting away their lucky charms, mirrors and candles, and start taking charge of their own lives. Everyone goes through a rough patch or two in the course of their time on Earth (often of their own doing). Nothing strange about that.

Jesus Christ is the only answere, demons devils and evil spirits are real satan and 1/3 of the angels that rebelled with him are here on earth God cast them out of Heaven because satan wanted to be higher than God and rule everything  are only whay that we came take a stand and have victory against these evil beings is to pray to God and Jesus read the Word daily which is the Bible and to Worship God and Jesus The Bible says we are to worship God with all our heart mind body and soul, the Bible says not to be ignorent of satan's devices he attacks our minds our heart's and body,s and souls, satan's main goal is to keep people from serving God and Jesus and to keep people from there calling and he want's to lead as many people away from the truth as possible satan want's to take as many  people  to hell with him as possible because that's where God is going to cast him in the end is into the lake of fire and the devil wants to take as many as he can to burn in Hell with him and the Bible say's that knowbody will enter into the Kingdom of  heaven unless they receive Jesus Christ as there Lord and Savior Jesus says that I am the way the truth and the Light nobody get's to the Heavenly father except through the Son which is Jesus only the Blood of Jesus can clean you from all your sins If you are not sure where you will spend eternity at if you died today than say this prayer    Dear Heavenly Father I acknowledge that I am a sinner and I need to be saved By Faith I trust in Jesus as the divne son of God born of the Virgin Mary and I believe that Jesus paid my sin in debt upon the cross of Calvary where he was crucified he shed his blood and died and was buried and rose again according to the scriptures , I to have the promise through Jesus Christ that I will also reign with him eternally Therefore I ask Jesus would you please come into my heart mind body and soul at this very moment and save me now and forgive me of all my sins and give me eternal life in Heaven Lord I believe this and I believe that Jesus is the only way to Heaven and there is no othere way Jesus thankyou for saving me I will serve you all the days of my life Thankyou Jesus Amen.  If you just said this prayer then Halleluiah you are a new creature the old has been erased forever and  God remembers your sins no more you are totally clean by the Blood of Jesus and your name has been written in the Lambs Book Of Life all the Angels of Heaven are rejoicing over you this very moment yes you  remember satan is a lier he is the biggest lier of all he is the father of lies dont listen to him he hates you but God and Jesus love you   My Name is Harvey Cox I am Authorized and Deputized in Jesus Holy Name I know my Bible and I know it well and I know who I am in Jesus Christ im not ashamed of the Bible  of Jesus Christ and I dont have time for a bunch of devil stuff  Im taking a stand against satan and all his demon forces and the powers of Hell fear has no place in me

There are many wonderous things in our world. Things seen and unseen, some good and some not so good. But one thing is always true, Your beliefs and your fears is what gives these things power over you. Take back your power, each and every one of you has this inner power. This is the power that is unseen, the light, your very essence. Believe in yourselves and trust in your own power. 

  

Let no one and nothing take away your self, your own inner power. Be who you are in the brilliant light that you were born in.

I want you in Paganism to know that I know some of you and you are by far some of the nicest folks a gal could ask for in a friend!  I want the "frightened" Christian community to know that I have bravely explored friendships with Pagans, and low and behold, they are (surprise, surprise) just people!!!!! People like me and you who have kids, messy homes, laundry day, burnt casseroles, and spiritual wishes that they hope someone "up there" hears.  I think that Christians whom I have gone to church with in the past are down right "silly" for being afraid of all this demon posession stuff and afraid of non-Christian people.  You arent afraid of Buddhists or Hindus, who are not Christians, so why be afraid of Euro-Pagans either.  One of the sweetest ladies I know in town told me she is a Wiccan - and she is so gentle spirited that I really thought she had the same heart a true and genuine Christian should display.  I have found out through my book reading that in Paganism every flower, tree, plant, herb and gemstone has a special meaning....the world actually  means something.  Then I checked out the Bible and found out that the natural world also has symbolic meaning in the Biblical sense.  While alot of Pagans believe in The Goddess, Christians might be surprised to realize that Christ has a Bride, the Church;  And The Church, as the Bride of Christ, functions as "The Goddess" for Christians in a round about way - the earthbound body that brings new life to others (through Christ, in the Christian sense, of course, in Christianity).  The more I think about it, the more I realize that we have alot in common.  People have to learn to look past clothing and jewelry pendants.  Alot of Christians are afraid of the Pentagram, the 5 point star, but I looked up the number 5 in a Bible reference, and have found some references to 5 being the number used to symbolize Grace in the Bible.  Think about the way number 5 is used in Biblical scripture - 5 wounds upon the crucificed Christ; 5 unprepared virgins, and 5 prepared virgins; 5 loaves and 5 fishes;  5 (x 10) days after the Resurrection Pentacost occurred and God sent the Holy Spirit to the Church of believers....I also have read that in early Christianity the Pentagram was actually used to symbolize Christ on the cross.  Christ said "Love your neighbor as yourself," and so, if you are my neighbor, my Pagan neighbor, I will love you as Christ asks me to, and treat you with the respect and dignity I wish to be treated with.  You may not know or understand, or even be interested in my faith, but I know that if My God loves you, than so should I, because I am no better than the God I worship.  I actually enjoy reading the Pagan information, because you are adding a new and interesting dimensions to European history.  For centuries no one cared to ask what religion pre-Christian Europe was, and now, people are interested and archeologists are digging up Stonehenge, and Druids, and Germanic Teutons....wow, the world is so exciting now.  Such wonderful stories of old, such adventure!  And the clothes, ya gotta love the midieval clothes!  I have some.  And you know what?  I feel the same wearing it as I do wearing my regular clothing - I'm me, no matter what I am wearing.  I will recognize you as a religion, and you know whose religion you are?  Mine - you are the religion of my own ancestors in a restored, modern sort of way.  There may be alot of information missing, but long ago, your religion was part of my family.  So you are sort of like my living ancestors, and I think you are fun!  I hope that you do not come to despise Christianity because of some nasty Christians, please remember Jesus Christ is the supreme example of Christianity - the one to look at, and guess what???? Christ himself was accused by the pharasees of being a Witch....and does anyone remember who visited Christ at Bethlehem?  My goodness, it was the THREE MAGI (in Greek the word "magi" means SORCERER) - These three Sorcerers (male witches) used astrology and dream interpretation to locate the Christ child.  So while the rest of the world just sat there, the Three PAGAN MAGI Sorcerers searched astrology for Christ, found him, and then worshiped him.  How is that for an accurate twist on the Biblical story?  Further, the two Biblical books that mention who visited Christ list Shepherds in one Book and the Magi in the other.  Looking both Shepherds and Magi up in the Greek reveals a starteling definition of both words:  both words ALSO means "pastor" or "priest".  Apparently Both Gospels are speaking of the same people who came to visit Christ - Pagan Sorcerers who were shepherds/priests/pastors to their people.  This is why they were sitting out under the stars watching their flocks at night when the angel came to them - they were watching the stars.  Recent Astronomical studies have found that the Magi stopped in Bethlehem the day a great Solar event took place in the sky - it was the DAY THE SUN STOOD STILL, also indicated in the scripture story.  That day is none other than WINTER SOLSTICE, for the word solstice, means, in latin, "sun" and "stood still".  This was the sign they needed to tell them where to stop to locate the Christ Child - their astrology was a gigantic clock to them.  Aparently these people were very learned, and wise (the translation of wicca in Old English).  I wish people would get out their Hebrew, Greek and Old English Dictionaries (which can be found on line) - what I have found is that Language is the biggest barries and once we look up the words there is no more confusion or division.  We are all seeking the same things.  Well, I may be the minority, but I choose to be nice to any pagan neighbors that I meet.  Merry Meet and Merry Part to you all!

Finally my brethren be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might put on the whole armor of God that you may be able stand against the wiles of the devil for we do not wrestle against flesh and blood but against principalities against powers against the rulers of the darkness of this age  against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places  therefore take up the whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil day and having done all to stand  stand therefore having girded your waist with truth having put on the breastplate of righteousness and having shod your feet with the preparation of the Gospel of peace above all taking the shield of Faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one and take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit which is the Word of God  keep your self armed carry your Bible the demons and satan hate God's Word  it is your spiritual weapon against them  

Well sleep disoders tend to be aggravated by stress, that is probably why you expereince this paralyisis more often then.  And yes, to me it really does sound ridiculous, but hey, you believe what you believe.  I just think you ought to have a Dr. and a psychologist take a look at you before you chalk it up to demons.

I don't believe in a God that directly intervenes in people's lives. So asking God or whatever for help with MY sleep disorder when I'm sure God has way more important things to worry about seems a little selfish, but that's just me.

You do what works for you, but hey, I'll just keep taking my meds.  They work wonders.
