Do you believe that walking under a ladder or someone giving you the "evil eye" can give you bad luck? Dr. Phil's guests say that curses and evil spirits are wreaking havoc in their lives. Sarah is convinced that she's hexed. For the last five years, she has been plagued with what she calls the "Tuesday Curse." Watch what happens when Dr. Phil's producers follow her around on her "unlucky" day. Then, George is convinced he is reaping the negative effects of a curse put on his family years ago in Mexico. He has even put his wedding plans on hold because he fears the curse will cause him to divorce! Plus, David worries that his wife, Holly, may be possessed because she has had the same nightmare for the past seven years, and she has been talking in a man’s voice, speaking in a foreign tongue and barking like a dog. What's behind her fearsome dreams? And, a woman claims an exorcism, performed by her father 26 years ago, put demons inside of her.  Share your thoughts.

I agree

Quote From: momisme2

I got Sharons age wrong.  She was 9 when she was forced to go through an excorcism.  Not that I think two years makes one bit of difference.  It still explains all her feelings of guilt, fear, and shame.

And before I get a rebuttal post from countrycow explaining how all Sharon needs is to accept Jesus into her heart, please allow me to continue with my thoughts on this.

Like Sharon, I too was abused at the hands of the religious.  Not near as drastic as her, but still...  Like all abuse survivors, I too felt the fear guilt and shame.  For years and years and years and years.  No amount of religious counsel ever took that completley away.    The only way I was ever able to heal was with psychological help.  Understanding my feelings.  Learning why I had them.  Knowing I was not alone.  Learning how to change my thinking and how to heal.  Being told over and over and over again, until it finally started sinking in, that I was not evil.  I was a child!  An innocent!  Just as Sharon was.  Even worse for Sharon, not only did she carry the burden of childhood abuse by thinking she was bad and unworthy and filled with guilt fear and shame, she was TOLD she was all these things by a religious power.  Her father.

She needs to be UNtold all of this.  Over and over and over, by someone who wont get into all the possible "evil" in the world, but who will stick with the psychological effects children who are abused are left to suffer with.  If after all of this, she still has a desire to seek out religous/ spiritual help, then by all means!  But at this point, I for one, think poor Sharon has been put through enough at the hands of religion and is now in need of one hell(againpun intended) of a good psychologist.  JMO

I agree with momisme about responding to people like Sharon with stuff like "Jesus is the only way", and all the hellfire and damnation things that Christians like to say. Saying those things to people who were repeatedly abused in the name of Jesus does nothing more than reinforce the trauma the person experienced. Children have it drilled into their heads that if they are bad they will go to hell, that the bad things being done are because Jesus loves them, etc.

While my abuse in the name of Jesus was not the same as Sharons, the effects are similar.  Love hurts. Jesus hurts. and because it hurts, I'm going to hell. Or am I? This verse in the bible says one thing - that I am going to heaven. But somewhere else it says I'm going to hell, so why try figuring it out? It is just too much.

Worse luck in the world

I watched the show and didn't think that I was going to post on the subject but I just couldn't resist.  I think I have the worst luck in the world.  Nothing ever goes right for me.  It's like I was just meant to fail at everything despite my best efforts.  Just once, I would love for something to go right!!!!!!!!

About Thinking Positive

momisme2, you sound like a very caring and sweet individual. Great sympathy I have for you. As implode1, I can say the greater part of the Church is a TERROR MACHINE. It is a moneymaking corporate enterprise. The technique for raking in money, time-tested and true, is to generate TERROR. This is how it's been from day one. momisme2, I invite you to share with us your personal philosophy or current spiritual focus in light of your background, and the work you do. We don't need a full bio, just some words on how life is.

It sounds like you and justweird got the fear treatment served up to you on a plate, and maybe more. I can personally confirm this through direct experience after having gone to several different churches before to "experiment", and got the same thing--a lingering and disturbing sense of unease that comes as reliably as white on rice.

A buddy called Chuck I lived with had gone to Catholic school as a youth. After obtaining the same treatment, he lost all spirituality and has never believed in anything except UFOs.

To dlynn pa, don't fall into the mental trap of tabulating all the bad stuff that happens. You will begin to see it everywhere. I'm not posting because I have any issues with luck--I was in tearful shock over Sharon's distress. That was like watching a soul being murdered. Again, if anyone can reach her, give her my origional embedded message and my contact forceit_229@yahoo.com PLEASE. I have to help her. dlynn pa, I can't tell what's happening with you, but listen to this. implode1 has grown up with severe depression and anxiety. My dad treated me badly, did drugs, played pornography (and with himself) in the house, got divorced, arrested and thrown in jail, and has been homeless for 5 years. I was abused at school. Drug dealers and prostitution drove me out of a once fine neighborhood. A house adjascent to mine BLEW TO BITS, sending its occupant into grave condition. Someone set my house on fire TWICE in 3 months, one of them on Christmas Day. One fire nearly killed my family--an unsolved attempted murder. I've been unable to drive or get a job due to my earlier conditions, and no remedy either conventional or alternative had worked. But I don't have any hex on me or evil spirits chasing me. Those things come from your thoughts and the beliefs you subscribe to.   My best heartfelt wishes for you all...

hi.  for one thing  i  don't give  rebuttal post to no one!!  i only tell  people the truth..   i don't make none of this up.  it all comes from  jesus.  i read and study the bible,  and go too church..    i really don't know  much about sharon.  but her father  abuse her. thats all and he used  god  as an excuse for doing it too her.  makeing her think it was  all  about god. when it was not..    her father was  a mean person that did not care for his child..     so   he lied and abuse her....    it has nothing too do with jesus christ..     jesus christ  is the only way too heaven and hes the only  way   to peace and joy.  yes you will still have problems  while on this earth.  everyone does..  christians or not..   but with jesus in your life and heart he will help you throw the bad times you face..  if you only pray and ask for his help...     yes  there are kids that do get  abuse by  someone in their family or friends.   but  thats  from the devil the meaness  that  are in some  people   that don't care who they hurt in life.   they are people  that don't know jesus and are just plain mean..   it has nothing to do with  jesus.   if you think that,  then you are thinking wrong and its the devil  filling your head with lies..  the devil hates jesus and he will do anything he can  too  keep people  on his side and  too stay away from jesus.    so   think what you  like. but  you will realize the truth one day.  hopefully  it won't  be too late for you.

I thought this was about bad luck and misfortune????

How do you know what the truth is?  Where you there?  How do you know you have it right?  It sounds to me like you are putting people down because they don't want or need you to save them.  Sounds pretty high and mighty to me.  I don't need a supernatural entity to tell me the difference between right and wrong.  I do what is right and get trampled upon.

That is love?

Quote From: countrycow

Listen, I know that you mean well, but you are missing the point entirely. What is love? Is it trivializing and dismissing the things that people have gone thrugh, telling them to just get Jesus and get over it? It isn't that simple, and you talking like that is NOT showing compassion and love. It is saying "I don't care how you feel. Just get over it.  By the way Jesus loves you"

You have absolutely ZERO concept of what cult abuse does to children. What happens when all a child knows for the first decade of their life is that "Love" means having sex, and the person that tells them that calls themself "Jesus".  And that telling is a sin. And that sinners die and go to hell. And if you are bad, your pet will be killed to. And maybe your baby brother too. That is all that child knows - terror. There is no place to escape and no safe people.

Would you go up to that child and start telling them they have to love Jesus or else they are going to hell? Think about how that child would hear it. Remember - they have NO concept of the "real" Jesus. Just telling them that the other one was really the devil isn't going to help. Just telling them that Jesus is really a good guy isn't going to help.

They have had years and years being shown and learning the opposite. They also need to be SHOWN the opposite over and over again. Not just told. This isn't something that just goes away by saying a little prayer. I have Dissociative Identity Disorder (Multiple Personality). The damage runs deeper than you know. I can rationalize all the words you just said, but there are parts of me who cannot. They are still terrified of Jesus. Terrified.

You can sit there all day and say "well thats a lie get that lie out of your head and believe Jesus loves you before it is too late. I don't want you to go to hell".  But I have to tell you that saying those words without compassion of any kind is just plain cruel.  Did the real Jesus just preach about goodness, or did he practice it as well?

I wanted to thank you in your help to show countrycow as well as other that not everyone who doesn't have Jesus in their lives are bad or evil and need to be saved.  I don't know if you have read any of my earlier postings, but I tried to tell people the same thing and had no luck.  It is always nice hearing from someone who actually has facts, I like the graph :).  Are you Christain?  If you are you are of the better ones that I have met.  True, Christianity was not the first religion, but now seems to be prominent today, it was not the first and not the only religion.  So there is proof that people lived a different way before Christianity, so that makes my point that there is not only one way to live.  I am not Christian, but would consider myself religous.  If only everyone would be accepting of others.
