Dr. Phil revisits some of his most amazing stories of the season. First, Tim and Anne Marie were desperate to save their mother, Sylvia, who was constantly talking to the voices in her head. After 10 weeks of treatment, see the inspirational turn Sylvia has taken. What will she say when she meets Dr. Phil face to face? Then, just over a month ago, two women told Dr. Phil how they fell victim to alleged con man and bigamist Ed Hicks. See how their story helped another woman and brought Hicks into police custody. Plus, 18-year-old Natalee Holloway disappeared last May during a senior class trip to the island of Aruba. Dr. Phil is joined by Natalee’s mother, Beth, her lawyer, and a consultant to the Aruban government who defends the work of the investigators. Have there been new revelations since the last time Beth appeared on the show? Could rescuers be on the brink of finding the missing teen? Talk about the show here.

Find out what happened on the show.

Parents of Teenagers

Quote From: kutkiewicz

First of all, let me say that I am truly sorry for the incredible amount of anguish that this family has had to endure. The pain of not knowing must be absolutely unbearable. Coming from the heart of a mother of a seven year old beautiful daughter, I can't even begin to understand.

However, with all of the information that has been flying around about this case, I am surprised- especially surprised at you, Dr. Phil, for neglecting one major fact in this case. We have all been teenagers, and the majority of us have graduated high school. We have all known that "I'm 18 and I know what's best for me" stage of our lives, and I'm sure that most of us would agree a good 10+ years later that, guess what, we didn't know at 18 what we thought we did...we don't even know now. I keep seeing these headings that Natalee was on a "school trip" in Aruba. Tell me, why do 18 year olds go to Aruba? Or Cancun, or Jamaica, or the Bahamas, or Cabo, etc? We all know the answer: They go to drink to their hearts content and live a lifestyle that isn't permitted here in the US, or maybe just under their own roof. They go so that they can party their way through vacation, not remembering a single moment of the thousand dollar vacation that their parents undoubtedly paid for. And here's the scary thing: when you live a lifestyle like that, you open yourself up to so many vulnerabilities-especially as a young woman. When you're completely inebriated and surrounded by 18 year old men who, quite frankly, are just lurking around waiting to "get laid", you are in an incredibly scary situation.

As parents, we need to take a stand in protect our children- and sometimes that means standing in their way. I understand that Natalee was 18 years old and a high school graduate, and to an extent it wouldn't matter what warnings her parents could give her, but on the other hand, I doubt that she paid for this expensive trip by herself. We as parents always need to be one step ahead of our children.  I'm sure that no one would find it appropriate if they knew their children were getting drunk or high or sleeping around at home- why let them go out of the country to a place where you knew that's all they were going to do- even if (especially if) your child was NOT one to partake in those types of activities normally, but if you knew thats all that would be going on around him or her? I am not at all trying to shame Natalee or any memory of her, but we do know that she was last seen heavily drinking, and it doesn't matter if you are an 18 year old woman or a 50 year old woman, puts herself in a really scary situation when they can no longer control their circumstances. I just think that we all as parents need to be more proactive in teaching our daughters about this (and our sons, too). It is not an island country that is the perpetrator here; there are sketchy people out there, and when we surround ourselves by people who are full of alcohol and constantly looking for a good time, we put ourselves in a very dangerous situation.

I commend you on your "understanding."

Drugged Charge

Quote From: kutkiewicz

THANK YOU someone for bringing up the point that she was constantly wasted and possibly on drugs. I completely agree that just because someone is drunk or drugged does not give anyone the right to commit a crime against them-and it does not put Natalee to blame for anything that happened to her- but HELLO, these things happen- many times to girls who are completely sober and living a good, moral life!!! When we surround ourselves with people who are constantly doing drugs, completely drunk, and/or sleeping around, we put ourselves in a scary and DANGEROUS situation-especially if we are under the influence of any of these things ourselves. The same case goes for being out at clubs until 2 in the morning so drunk that we can't remember it the next day. There ARE creeps in the world looking to take advantage of any situation out there!!! That's where wise decision making in the first place comes in.
Where were the adults that were supposed to look out for these "children"?

Natalie Holloway

I heart goes out to Natalies mom, being a mom myself of a young daughter.  I can't possibly image what you are going through.  I truly hope you receive all the help possible in finding your daughter.  I think you are holding up very well.  My prayers are with you and your family.  I will continue to pray for you and will send out a pray request for you also.  Best wishes and God Bless!!!!

Cohen

Watched the show today.... Mr. Cohen .....stop this game.  Nothing you said today left me feeling you are in anyway a credible liason between Aruba and Natalie's family.  The proscecutor in Aruba appears to be incompetent .... and quite frankly .... I am totally disgusted with the way this entire case has been handled by the Aruban authorities.  Every "promise" made has been broken and no one seems to speak the truth to anyone ..... right from the beginning of this sad sad case.

Nattaley Holloway

Dr. Phil:

I saw your show today.  I am convinced that no one will we tried for anything concerning Nattaley Holloway.  But that is not a  reason for Americans to stop going to Aruba for vacation.  Aruba is a much safer place for Americans to visit than most places.  The Virgin Islands has a much higher crime rate on a par with Miami.  Jamacia has barbed wire around the resorts, and those that venture out of the resorts have been approached by maching gun toteing rebels.  Tourists have been killed in church in the Bahamas.  I could go on and on.  The one thing that should be stressed is that you don't go off alone with people you don't know.

Natalee

I was just wondering where Natalee's "girlfriends" are in all of this. How could they let her go off with strangers in a foreign country while she was drunk? Even if she insisted, they should have insisted that at least one of them go along.

I hope they get some answers, but I also hope that all the other parents of missing children and missing loved ones get some answers soon.

I think that if Natalee wasn't a "pretty blonde smart girl" this would have been forgotten in the media a long time ago.

01/19 Follow-ups

Quote From: duke083

I've been to three.  You have many valid points in your commentary. This sends a chilling message to parents--wait for those experiences that may prove dangerous to youths with immature decision-making skills.  While in the three foreign countries, I did not drink, was with a group of about eight at night ( put myself on a curfew) and listened to that little voice in my head when something did not seem right.  I was an adult in all three experiences which might just say that decision-making skills were a bit more developed than in my youth. I'll put Natalie's family on my prayer list.

I am continually amazed that some Americans consider themselves so special that when they travel to other countries they expect that laws and law enforcement proceedures will be the same as at home.   I am surprised that Dr. Phil has added to the attention this case continues to recieve.  How many young people disappear every day in this country?  How many visitors to the US have disappeared?  How many times has our country's leader been forced to meet with parents of missing tourists?

Gee, aren't we special.  Pathetic.

re:

Quote From: bronzesprt

I am truly sorry that Natalee Holloway's family is suffering with so many unanswered questions concerning their daughter's disappearance.  I do think the involvement of their governor calling for a boycott of Aruba is very irresponsible.  That decision will hurt  innocent people a lot more than government officials who may be making bad decisions concerning the investigation.  The loss of tourism will result in the loss of jobs and affect families abilities to feed their children and provide for their necessities.  We're talking about other innocent individuals who are not responsible for what happened to Natalie and who should not become victims also.

I also found the family lawyer showed a lot of ignorance and arrogance in expecting that the legal system in another country would operate the exact same as it does in the USA.  Even within the U.S., there are differences depending on the state or municipality involved.  His saying definitively how things "should" be progressing and how officials "should" have handled arresting, retaining, the buys suspected of harming Natalie is based on law that he studied based on the Constitution of the U.S.  Unless he is a specialist in international law - and he didn't appear to be from his comments - he is way out of line.  He really appeared to be using bullying tactics rather than good legal judgement in the way he presented himself.

Finally, with all of the women who disappear in the U.S., why is this one case consuming the media?  I'm not saying there should not be concern, but I wonder if this was a woman of color from a poor family, would that family have access to the media, Dr. Phil, a state governor, etc.?  I doubt it and THAT enrages me.

I agree with you.........

I feel the media is giving this too much attention. If she was poor this would not be getting the attention it is now.  If her mother didn't have the financial resources she obviously has she would not have had the chance meeting with this lawyer. And by the way, isn't this the same John Kelly that represented the family of Nicole Brown???

Boycot Aruba until they find some anwers

The people of the United States of America need to stop going to Aruba until they get with the program and find this woman's daughter and what happen to her. If the people would stop going to Aruba and cause them to loose millions of dollars, then we would see how quick things would get done. My heart goes out to this family and I pray they get some answers every day. It is very upsetting to know that if you go to Aruba with your family, or even by yourself, you or  a family member may never come back, and the Government of Aruba doesn't care. Do you really want to visit and support a place like that. Not me, I have now canceled any plans to take a trip to Aruba. Never again!!

America Rocks

Quote From: floortje

Yahootie, I'm not sure which planet you live on, but it sure ain't the same as mine.

You contradict yourself in point 1 and 2. How would a young pretty (I beg to differ) white woman stick out like a sore thumb amidst all these American tourists...???

The 2nd part of your post makes even less sense. Your history (exept for the very recent couple of hundred years) is the same as the European history. For the very simple fact that your country didn't exist before then and most of the first "Americans" came from Europe. And no, if we do bash America it has nothing to do with history, but everything with this "we are the best" attitude that many of you seem to have. Get it into your thick skulls, you are not the best! Stop abusing your power and stop spreading so much hatred. Thanks to your "war on terror" I'm not safe on my own street. America has angred so many people that they are even attacking my country to show you how angry they are (pretty pissed off really!). Before this "war", I was perfectly safe, but not anymore. Thanks America!

Also, not many Europeans will have tried to enter the US illegally as we are allowed to enter legally. In fact, we don't even need a visa! Or do you think Europe is the same as Africa, Asia, South America, etc? Now that wouldn't surprise me, coming from an American....Ha! Ha! Use your 401K to get some education...

Your constitution is even abused by your own President. Isn't the NSA "eavesdropping" on Americans and didn't Bush say that this was a "vital tool against terrorism"? I'm sure the constitution and the law says that this is not allowed......Oh, and how much does your President care for "missing" Americans? He never mentiones them in any speach and he hasn't mentioned Natalee's name once....With so many Americans missing in your own country, it would take him weeks to mention them all! And that's not even including the amount of Europeans and other foreigners missing in the US!

And finally, my daughter will NEVER be allowed to travel to NYC on her own. And even if she did, she would know better not to get drunk and get into a car with 3 strangers. Simple and common sense really!

Wow another European dissing America... I am stunned.  The only thing that saddens me about the Europeans is that there are more than 100,000 American graves in the American Cemetary at Luxembourg of those that gave their lives to save these pathetic little countries from the Nazi Regime 50+ years ago.  If we are so bad then why are we continually asked for "help" monetary or military everytime one of these countries is in some kind of trouble?  You all are about as useless as a harmonica player in war time anyway.  So glad you have such a selective memory in regard for all that America has done or not done.  I for one wish that we would stop pouring money into countries abroad that hate the U.S.  As for  President Bush, he stands by what he says and backs it up.  Not like these scared mealy mouthed politically correct stooges that would sell out their own mother rather than stand up and do what is right.  I don't think the Iraqi's are sad that Saddam is gone... do you?  I haven't seen many people on CNN demonstrating to put him back in power.  Try democracy and free enterprise and see how that works for you.  Socialism and communism are so backward and oppressive.  I don't think you have education or a 401K in your future based on your thoughtless remarks.  Natalee Holloway's mom deserves answers and will hopefully get them with the help of a boycott and her attorney.  This Steve Cohen is just like you... full of bull and hot air with no substance.
