(Original Air Date 02/08/06) We all love food, but some of us love it too much!  According to research, nine million Americans are morbidly obese. So when does the simple routine of eating turn deadly? Jazmyn weighs over 200 pounds -- and she’s only 11 years old. Her grandmother, Joan, complains that the little girl's own mother, Vicki, is responsible. Joan says Jazmyn eats fast food, junk food  and "manly-sized" portions. Can Jazmyn's young life be turned around? Then, 34-year-old Paul says his food addiction has taken over his life. At nearly 1,000 pounds, he is too big to bathe himself, dress himself, or use the bathroom without assistance. His mother, Loretta, is terrified he will die if drastic measures aren’t taken. Has she been enabling his eating habits?  Share your thoughts.

Paul, I just wanted to let you know that no matter what happens- on this show, in the next week, even throughout your whole life- you're really brave and strong for doing this show.  I know that any weight issue is not fun to deal with on a daily basis.  Stay strong, and I'll send a prayer your way.  Good luck, Paul!

a question

You now, I always have had one question about obesity.

The people who are obese, if you now that you get too heavy.

Why do peple just not stop eating bad thing, or less.

Becose I am just 5kg overweight, and I don't want to become fat, so I stopped eating cookies, chips, soda drinking.

And now I don't like it as much anymore.

I just have this question.

In my country (Netherlands) there are overweight people, but not so much.

The only obese pearson I now is my grandma.

But she has never seen her weight as a problem.

(My grandma is very very nice, but she do is a candy-gandma)

Way too Familiar

 Hello Everyone

I think I heard of this same guys story on the discovery/Health channel. He was on there as being one of the worlds most heaviest men. It was a story I remember watching. He looks like him. at 1000 lbs

I saw another story very similiar to it as the worlds heaviest man at 1500 pounds. He was from Maryland the northern part I forgot where, but I live in the south. They transferred him from maryland to some other institution down south somewhere. He eventually died. Obesity had killed him.

I havent seen the show yet, but I want to know how the mother plays a role in this. It looked on the interviews last week. The mother is the one feeding the addiction. It looks to be the mothers fault. Shes the one who feeds him. Gives him whatt he wants in food, and as much of it as he wants. It also doesnt help that he has to lay in bed most of the time. The mother is practically killing her own son.

I havent seen the show yet. I surely hope Dr. Phil finds a way to seperate these two. That 1000 pound man needs to be taken away from his mom, or the mom needs to be taken away from the son. The mother said in the interviews that she couldnt get him out of that house. I bet Dr. Phil could get him out. I Know I surely would even if I had to lift  him out with a crain. The mother needs help getting down to the bottom as to why she feeeds him and why shes impberessed to take him out into the world....................

I Don't Get it

I just don't get it how people can pretty much eat their way to that size.  I love cookies, chocolate, fast food, etc but I know when and how to say no to these things.  No one can say that if it's around them then they feel like they have to eat it because that is nothing more then a sad excuse.

02/08 Deadly Eating

Hi All, and definite hello to Paul,

The promo for this show brought me here because I see many of the issues being discussed alive and well in my marriage, but that is a longer story I guess than needed here now. Glad to see you posting on here Paul to help us see what is going on.

As for those asking how someone can get that big. I weigh over 600lbs, how far over I am not sure and I am not sure I want to know. What I do know is that I do eat a lot, sometimes eating becomes about more than sustaining your body, for me it has become about feeling something, something good. Binging is an escape for me. It would be a lie if I said I did not love eating, at least in the moment. After a binge I definitely do not feel good about myself. I also eat to show my wife I appreciate the work she puts into cooking for me. She loves me as I am and tells me that often. I am afraid to let her know how I really feel, I know i have to but I am not there yet I guess. I also think that when you have forever been "the big man" in the group, it becomes what you are known for and known as. Not sure if any of that makes any sense.

Anyway, I look forward to learning more from these boards and seeing your episode this week Paul.

Thanks,
Dave

Have compassion...don't be judgemental

I am not over weight by any means but I do know that for me I find that when I am upset or don't have much going on then I eat more. I have to keep myself busy or I find that I pasify my time with food. I'm assuming it's much like my husband has a drinking problem. I don't drink. So it is very hard for me to understand why it is an issue for him when I can do without it. He sya it makes him happy just the same as food can fill a void.

Did you stop & think this person has physcological problems? We all have reasons for eating, May be pleasure, stress, happiness, whatever but don't condemn somebody when you haven't walked in their shoes. I am not overweight but I see a very sad situation here. Yes people CAN say if its there I am going to eat it. Look at his picture, visualize your face on his body. Your probably saying you would never let yourself go that far...well anybodys glass house can be broken!

Paul, when I looked at your picture, my heart went out to you. No matter the negative responses you get, I am with you all the way. I am sure this is very difficult for you to appear on the show, but I also give you credit for your strength. If you can go infront of thousands  of people, you can do anything. Your a very handsome young man & I bet a heart of GOLD!!! Keep your failth & believe in yourself, you can do it!!!
