(Original Air Date 02/08/06) We all love food, but some of us love it too much!  According to research, nine million Americans are morbidly obese. So when does the simple routine of eating turn deadly? Jazmyn weighs over 200 pounds -- and she’s only 11 years old. Her grandmother, Joan, complains that the little girl's own mother, Vicki, is responsible. Joan says Jazmyn eats fast food, junk food  and "manly-sized" portions. Can Jazmyn's young life be turned around? Then, 34-year-old Paul says his food addiction has taken over his life. At nearly 1,000 pounds, he is too big to bathe himself, dress himself, or use the bathroom without assistance. His mother, Loretta, is terrified he will die if drastic measures aren’t taken. Has she been enabling his eating habits?  Share your thoughts.

Find out what happened on the show.

06/08 Deadly Eating

Hi Paul!

New Zealand says hi, yeah Im a fattie, I have no motivation to lose weight although I do try, I would love to have someone get me a food expert and set up rules etc, because I have no descipline to do it myself no matter how much I wish food wasn't something I thought about...... your so right you know, I'm also one of those people that can't eat just half a packet of chips, have to finish it!! Bad habits die hard.

At the moment I am watching Buffy and thought I might give you some ideas to watch incase you haven't yet experienced the Joss universe. If you have you rock :P

Buffy The Vampire Slayer....... vampires/magic/grown up euphemisms (think thats the right word!)
Angel ......... well  you can't have one with out the other
Firefly ..... then Serenity
Wanderfalls ........ never seen it, heard its good
X-Men cartoons 1-4 ........ season 5 is crap, new producers or something

I was going to list movies and games but I figure the more I list the more it will get taken out or some conehead will abuse me, meant to be good but instead it just seems short and biast, just adding to the online babble.

You seem cool, dunno if it is in a nerdy/scifi way like myself but if you have seen them or hate them then just ignore this post, dont tell me it would break my good-intentioned post. Any way I have gone off track. I only got to page 5 then skipped here. Woah what a novel!!

I'm going to back track a little and see how you are doing, I think the forum people should make your posts stand out heaps as theres heaps of rubbish in here (my post included :)

In case I never find my way back, all the best, and to all the skinny people out there, damn you!! (planet of the aps voice)

Oh and just incase you missed the message, TV suggestions are only for when you have TV time, obviously Im not suggesting someone skips exercise for TV, I just find if you are watching something, rather then watching something boring, watch something good, stops you from snacking I reakon!! And I was just giving my 2cents :)

And also about the interview which for you must seem so long ago......... really good!
You seemed intelligent and thoughtful with your replies, I don't know if I could do that with out getting all nervous and offended.

TO DR PHIL FORUM PEOPLE:

Initial when I came to this site I was after an update, so I searched the archive and found the inital story but there is no update, even if it was a small one dated August it would still be something :)

That way people at home motivated to lose weight could keep a track of themself with continued motivation from how Pauls doing!

A update on Paul and the others on the show would be great.  The boards are really slow right now and just maybe that would help.  I know It does motivate me when there are weight loss shows on.

Thanks

Hi,

My name is Paul and I am one of the people that profiled in this segment.

I just thought I would post right away and say that I will be watching this thread as closely as I can and trying to answer questions and comments as best I can about the segment and my life for those of you that want to know.

Please feel free to be as candid or as honest as you want in your questions and comments.

Paul

 Dear Paul,

I am trying to follow up on you, and I would like to know that you are up on your feet, leaving your apartment.  You have so much going for you, so many people who love you.

Yes, pity...and pray

Quote From: mdw2005

Your husbands drinking problem is an addiction just like food and for some its harder to stop...my husband has been sober for 9 years now but he had to hit rock bottom before he wanted to quit and he needed support to do it,

I started to become overweight when I was about 11 or 12.  Before that, I was referred to by neighbors as a "little peanut" and had one neighbor lady ask me twice when I was going to start putting on a little weight.  She didn't stick around the neighborhood long enough to find out.  Sometime in sixth grade, things just broke loose, and I was among the heaviest in my class, though not as heavy as I became later.  I've passed 200 several times, and have been on my way down several times - around 170 now.  Still, I know from experience, it's NOT EASY to send the numbers downward.

I never realized there were people who got this heavy until I was about 14.  I was riding the bus to school one day when a guy got on who was addressed by the bus driver as "young man".  His face looked like he was about 13, but he looked like he weighed 400 pounds or more.  I could see the strain in his eyes as he struggled to get on the bus and sit down.

Rather than the condemnation and sometimes ridicule that I've heard (and sometimes gotten) from others about being overweight, I was surprised to be overcome with sadness & compassion at my young age.  Only since that time (in the early '70s) have I seen this with more regularity.  When I hear people scoffing and snorting over someone like that, it disgusts me.  They act as if it is all that person's fault, and they should be able to just cut it off on demand.  Kind of like, "Go to your room until you can learn to stop eating so much".  Wake up, guys!  I've seen people who eat a lot more and stay rail thin and those who don't eat as much as they're accused of and gain weight.  I worked with a lady who was constantly referring to me as fat when there were at least six others in the department who were a lot bigger than I was.  She knew I had some of the answers she sometimes needed to do her job and she would often say to me, "Get your big body over here and look at this and tell me how to fix it."  I somehow thought that if she wanted help, she shouldn't have been talking to me like she was eight years old.  I think my supervisor put a stop to some of this, but I was amazed that she never seemed to get past a third grade mentality on this issue.
These are people that need compassion and prayer... not ridicule and accusations.  I've been wanting to hear an update on Paul's case ever since I saw this.  I had originally thought that guy, John on the Dr. Phil house was the same guy, but I just looked this episode up to find out this guy's name.  They still look like the same person to me, but it would be good to find out how they BOTH came out after the show.

What happened to these people?

I see that Dr. Phil is parading out more morbidly obese people this Friday.

What happened to the people from last February?
