09/21 Meddling Future Mothers-in-law

I think the most important thing to remember when you're getting married and in turn getting a MIL is to focus on your relationship with your partner and not on the behaviour of your MIL. I know it can be extremely difficult, but not matter who it is, you have to remember that your actions or reactions to other people's behaviour teach them how they're able to treat you. On the first occasion of your new MIL being rude, overbearing or disrespectful you have to confront her, as calmly as possible, letting her know that her actions are hurting you regardless if she is intending to hurt you or not. If discussing the situations and your hurt feelings with your MIL doesn't work than it's time to take a break from her and remove her and her negativity from your life. Hopefully most MIL who have been overbearing or rude will realize that unless they change their behaviour and become  positive and respectful of their child's new spouse than they are the ones who are going to lose in the end.

Unbelievable

Quote From: lonalea200

I am symply stating a fact that everytime you turn on the news, someone is claiming racism. Usually it is black people. You don't hear chinese yelling racism, you don't hear Japanese or any other race yelling racism. It has always been the black people. I do not think all black people are racist but the ones who yell racism are usually black people. That is a fact. We don't, ( white people ), request that blacks won't let us in their programs yet they want their own special, catagorized by being of African American decent, programs because they claim they don't have as many rights because of racism. Like the negro college fund,, we don't have a white college fund. Anyone can go for a fund in this country. we donot segrergate our race. There are scholorships for specifically black people, we don't have white people scholorships. there aren't even Australian scholorships. Black people have always made themselves be apart. I welcome them. but stop yelling racism when there is none.

You've got to be kidding! I am absolutely appalled at the immense ignorance and arrogance you so proudly display in your quote. I can't believe you think that every time someone 'yells' racism it's 'usually' a black person. You obviously lead an extremely sheltered and uneducated life. Perhaps you'd next like to say that all Arabs or Muslims are terrorists! Your facts are clearly WRONG! People of all ethnic groups, races and religions experience racism and prejudice. The bottom line is that you cannot make such generalizations about an entire group. There are wonderful as well as awful people in all races, ethnic groups and religions. You say at the end of your quote that you 'welcome' black people...I'd like to know how many black people reading what you wrote find you or your words 'welcoming'? I doubt many do. I really think you need to turn off the news, step outside your front door and educate your self about these 'black' people who are 'always' making themselves be apart from people like you. Ever think that perhaps, just maybe, it was you and your behaviour and actions that made these 'black' people want to stay as far away from people like you as possible?

It's times like this that I'm proud to be a Canadian!

09/22 Are You a Racist?

I think that people need to realize that their are wonderful and awful people in all races, ethnic groups and religions. I keep reading the quotes on here and everyone keeps saying that they believe that there are in good and bad in all races, but they follow that thought by saying most criminals and welfare recipients are black. Can we say hypocritical and condesending??? Seeing the bad is easy when looking at someone, but it takes strength and effort to sometimes see the good and the truth.  I found it amazing how the media portrayed Black people during Hurricane Katrina as looters and yet the Whites were viewed as survivors...That alone should give us all something to think about.

Interesting

I find it amazing how the U.S, a country that prides itself on being the land of the free, remains imprisoned by the ignorance displayed by racists and their supporters

Kids Need a Drastic Wake Up Call!

My heart goes out to all the parents who have lost their children to this ridiculously insane 'game'. It's one thing to lose a child to an accident but it's a whole different picture when your child made the conscious choice to willingly involve themselves in their own death. I think a lot of the times parents see this kind of show or something similar about dangerous things teens do and think 'oh that could never be my child' and because of that thought they don't discuss the issue(s) with them. Parents need to start realizing that no matter how sweet, smart and wonderful their child is, there's always a chance it could in fact be their child laying in the morgue one day because of stupid 'games' and activities teens participate in. As a result parents need to talk to their kids about such issues and stress the importance of how extremely dangerous these 'games' are. So many teens today think choking games, drinking games, doing drugs, having sex, etc are 'cool'. It's up to parents and other influential adults to drill it into these kids brains that such things are NOT cool and instead could kill them. Perhaps a visit to the morgue or to the intensive care unit at the local hospital would wake these kids up and give them a glimpse into their own future if they continue participating in these 'cool games'.

Not simply a Black and White Issue...

I think it's important to realize that the issue of medication with regards to mental illness is not simply black and white. Medications that attempt to weaken the effects of illnesses such as depression, OCD, Bi-Polar etc, are not for everyone and can have dangerous side effects. However, for many people such medications decrease the effects of their mental illness and allow them to regain their life. One of my best friends suffers from severe depression. Her doctor first tried to change her diet, exercise routine and start her on vitamins. She did all this with little result. It was only until she started taking Prozac along with eating well, taking vitamins and exercising that she was able to get out of bed in the morning and make her kids breakfast and walk the dog and clean her house and do all the little things so many people take for granted. As for Tom Cruise...well...what can we say..he's an actor...a clearly uneducated, extremely ignorant and unbelievably arrogant  actor....that's it, nothing more....I'm not sure why so many people are suddenly supporting his ideas regarding mental illness medications?

Perhaps those same people who agree with Tom Cruise would like to hear Hilary Duff's position regarding the positive effects of nuclear weapons?

I Agree....

Quote From: queentween

Who the hell is Tom Cruise and why are we even listening to a member of a cult??? Jeez, People! He is an actor. He pretends to be characters. A script is placed in front of him and he repeats the words of someone else. There is NO talent necessary to be a movie star in this day- just the ability to look good. Editing and airbrushing take care of everything else. He belongs to a cult- Scientology. Last year we all criticized a sect of the Mormon church for its teachings. Its the same difference. Cult leader/cult follower- they just want more recruits and this is another way to do it.  Take a deep breath America, and rethink who our heroes should be- the guy down the road who saved your house in a fire as a volunteer and teaches your kids chemistry, or some poser who pretends to be something in a movie????????

PS I still can't correct the titles on this new board- please excuse me............

I completely agree with your statement. So many people today have their idea of a hero muddled! Just because you think a guy has a nice smile and good hair doesn't mean you can trust them....look at the serial killer Ted Bundy...how many people (women) trusted him because of his good looks and look what happened to them....Last time I checked a pearly white grin and styled hair didn't qualify an individual as an expert on mental illness and it's remedies...Someone should tell Tom Cruise to go fly a Kate...Oopps..I mean Kite...

09/28 Overmedicating America: The Cruise Controversy

Quote From: tmorelan

Isn't it interesting that we can all get so very upset and angry over decisions that have absolutely NOTHING to do with our own lives.

I have been reading the posts and continue to be astonished.  So much anger and so much unsolicited advice running free.  Live your own life to its fullest and you won't have time to live (meddle in) someone elses.

Unfortunately for many people writing on here such an issue has EVERYTHING to do with their lives. Any person suffering from depression, bi-polar, ADD, OCD etc is consumed by their illness from the moment they wake up until they go to sleep. Hence, why many people relay on medications that are being discussed in order to live their lives to the fullest. It sometimes is necessary to put your self in another's shoes to understand why they are angered and upset when discussing a matter such as this one.
