I live a variation of this. I am 53. I am living with MY parents. I also have two adult children--who live in another state. I owe arrears of $5000-$6000 in back child support. (The two states can not agree to the amount) I have had jobs at fast food restaurants where I am the chief of lobby and restroom cleanliness. I get the minimum wage for a difficult job. Half of my income goes toward paying the arrears. I am left with enough money to buy gasoline to go back to work.
My parents are retired. My father has COPD. It means congestive pulmonary disease. (Heart attacks and lung disease) He uses a walker and an oxygen tank. My mother is his chief nurse. I clean the house, do the yard, fix dinner and what-not.
It is not an easy arrangement. I am having difficulties with my parents because of . . . drum roll, please . . . figure skating. Yes, the World Championship is currently on television. And, I insist upon watching it. I love figure skating, and I made the horrid mistake of thinking my World Championship was important. I know differently, now.
When I want to watch figure skating, my parents INVITE their friends to visit. I'm expected to play "hostess with the most-est." Last night, my parents invited their dear daughter--my sister--and their beloved grandchild--my nephew--to dinner and to watch movies or March madness.
Anything but figure skating!
But are you KIDDING ME ? You are 53 and mocching off of your parents and still feel the need to critisice them for doing what they want in THEIR HOME ? Sounds like you need to be told what I used to tell my now grown daugher - my house, my rules, dont like it ? Get the hell out ! Jeez. FIFTY THREE ???
