I'm having a suprising moment of sympathy with you.  Job hunting is trying.  Just when you think you found the game's burrow, it turns out to be abandoned (or, in your case, inhabited by a rabid ferret).

But seriously, if you think of a degree just some peice of parchment, meaningless, you'll drive yourself mad wondering why you worked so hard for it.  Rather, think of it as a sort of medal.  Instead of being some act of valor that earns it, it's learning how to think.  It signifies that you know how to absorb and sort peices of information into something coherent.  Also, school is among the top places to network and find out what it is that you are passionate about.  You didn't just get a degree, you got a life.  Buon apetite.
You have a great way with words.  Thanks for writing me.
The job market where I live is aweful right now.  Not much out there.  I'm debating whether to move or not.
Job hunting is very trying.  I never know what positions to apply for.  And I get anxiety with starting something new.

Hope things are well with you.
Have a great Friday.  I'm so glad the weekend is here.

I just went in for a STATE interview.. I walked into a room with 3 women at a table...

It is very intimidating... I think that is what they try to do???

You will be fine...I am suppose to start my new STATE job on the 22, but they will not let me quit here.  What is up with that... they said they would flatten my tires and duct tape me to my chair.  Crazy kids...

God bless you and best wishes to all of us, trying to better ourselves and or just trying to live.

Anyone live close to me in CALIF... I have a Job to get rid of?

Mary Ann

Yeah I think the State people want to see how nervous we can get.  I had 2 interviews this week with them and had 4 people interviewing me at both.   I was so flippen nervous I don't think I did too well at either one.  O'well...... something will come up.

I've thought about moving to Cali.  I have cousins there that want to me find a job there.  It would be a lot of fun and I would do it if I didn't have to leave my mom here in Nebraska.  She has depression too and I like to be close by to keep an eye on her.  She keeps an eye on me too.  Good thing we both have two eyes. ha

Good luck with your new job.  You'll do great.

Quote From: yesyoucan

I was just hanging by a thread anyway... Dad had died, emergency appendectomy, I'd left here to move in house in my home town, repairs being made on my house not being done correctly and taking forever, mother was going bankrupt etc. etc. etc. Before knowing mother was going bankrupt, though, I'd taken a bunch of tests at State Capitol and gotten high marks on Social Work Assistant and Drug and Alcohol Abuse Counselor Assistant. So, I got a call for the Social Work Assistant yet I'd just learned mother was going bankrupt. I walked in and it was a board meeting interview with five or seven others and there I sat in shock as thread I was hanging began to fray.

I was told that I was the first person to be interviewed since I had the highest score on my test. Not your normal questions though such as, "What would you do if someone came in needing your help that didn't qualify? What would you do if someone came in and you didn't know the answer of what would help?" It was like before I had a chance to answer one question...another person asked another question. It was like they were offended I had scored high and wanted to show me how much I didn't know and how much they did know. Yet I already respected that fact... So, I said, "If I didn't know something I'd ask someone who had been there longer who might know and could tell me. That most jobs take a couple of weeks to learn and I felt I could learn. That I had faith they could show me what I needed to know about their procedures."

Of course, I didn't have an answering machine and those are essential I have learned, and even cell phones now, to not miss important calls. As it was, though, I moved back to Dallas so my mother and brother could live in my house since mother went bankrupt and a small two bedroom cottage. I got some interesting letters of jobs though for State Bureau of Investigation etc., however, in OKC. I didn't want to commute to OKC seventeen miles plus a day and I returned here so my mother and brother could live there.

How I look at my interviews that are less than perfect is I learn things to do better at next interview. Such as not giving up what is important to me and realizing I'm just as deserving and letting others know how much I want the job. Not to mention, true researching job first helps so THANK GOD for Google. Dr. Phil's equalizing breaths breathing calmly helps and a nice calming thought to stay grounded like, "I'm calm, relaxed poised and confident" which by the way...you always sound that way Michele. You have A LOT going for you, Michele, that we all see and others will see yet the most important person who needs to see is YOU. (((HUGs and PRAYERs and GREAT to see you, Michele...))) xoxo SEA

Relaxation Script by Dr. Phil

Appendix A, page 285 - 286 WLC book

BREATHE to count of FIVE each way ...in and out... (7 FOR FOOTBALL STARS)

"Focus on your breathing: (UWS, PAGE 286) "Breathing out EXACTLY to count of 1-2-3-4-5. So focus on letting go of everything you want to let go, especially stress, fear and any other destabalizing emotions. For a few moments, practice letting go of any tension, stress, feelings, or thoughts that you don't need right now. Let them go. Then breathe in EXACTLY to the count of 1-2-3-4-5...

Next, I want you to know that when you let these things go with your out-breath, you are replacing that space with good, nurturing air with your in-breath. Visualize that good air coming into your body and healing whatever needs restoration. Send that air to anywhere in your body and feel the love and caring you are giving yourself right now. Bring it into yourself. Practice this for a little while.

What you need to do next is to balance these in-breaths with the out-breaths, so that you will feel soothing relaxation and balance coming into your body. Practice breathing in to a count of five, 1-2-3-4-5, now breathe out, 1-2-3-4-5, in-breath, 1-2-3-4-5, and out-breath 1-2-3-4-5. count for yourself for each in-breath and out-breath for at least five minutes.

Note to yourself that you are balancing your out-breaths and in-breaths, letting the stress and tension leave your body, and allowing the good nurturing air to come in. You are releasing the stress and bringing the healing forces in. "

Yeah I tried to relax before today's interview.  But once I walked in and saw 4 people sitting there, I was so nervous. Not sure if I did well or not.  I'll find out on Monday.  I'm about to give up on Lincoln and start looking in Omaha.  Everyone is telling me there is more opportunities there.  So I may have to do that.
Sunday I leave for Las Vegas.  Woot!  A friend and I are going there for 4 days.  I can't wait to get away from things and have some fun.  I've never been there before so it will all be new to me.  (I'm sure way different than little ol' Lincoln, NE).

TGIF!  Glad weekend is here!  Hope you have a great one!

I decided to drop in here real fast for a last minute pep talk.  I prayed someone would be there for me and both of you as well as MaryAnn are/were.  It's very much appreciated!

Thanks!

Suzanne

Let me know how your 2nd day went.  Hope it went better than your 1st day.  Do you like the other people that work there?
Don't feel like you have to stay at this job.  Keep applying to other places and if a better offer comes up just tell them that.  I've done that before.  I've quit a job after only a couple weeks because a better offer came up.   Do what you need to do, don't let your husband make you feel guilty for trying out different jobs.  There are many jobs out there.  I say find something that you will like.  : )

Hello SEA and everyone

SEA.......how are you?  Are you staying warm?  It's freezing here!  Snow and ice everywhere.  Schools were closed yesterday.  Makes me wish I was back in school.  : )
Did you get your flowers planted over the weekend?  We went sledding friday and saturday.  It's been awhile since I've gone sledding.  I forgot how much excercise it is to walk up the hill.   We also made cookies.  Chocolate chip and sugar cookies.   We overcooked the first batch.  lol  But the rest came out well.
Allie is still playing in the box you sent.  She is so goofy!  I have all these toys for her but she wants to play in a box.  I might have to tape her in there and send her to you.   : )~
Thanks again for everything you sent me.  You are too sweet!

Hello SEA~

Quote From: yesyoucan

TEXAS is in bad shape with so many downed electrical lines. Galveston looks like a muddy monsoon ravaged war zone. The people who stayed want to leave since no electricity, no water even for bathroom facilities since no water pressure, no food, no fuel... I-45 entry onto Galveston Island had 20 to 30 large yachts making entry impossible so rescue folks having to go in and out on I-45 outbound lanes.

Only three gasoline stations were open in Houston yesterday since pumps need electricity to run and over 4 million persons without power. Even neighboring Conroe, Texas was without fuel yesterday. Then, you may have seen Sue say that Ike zipped on up North turning into a tropical depression. I'm surprised you dodged Ike yet glad sounds like you did. I think veered off a bit more East.

Oh, TIGGER... Tigger has a love interest and thankfully since Lynn has a McCain sign in yard and Fiona's owners have an OBAMA sign... Neither they nor we are allowing that to interfere with Tigger and Fiona's fondness of each other. (Fiona is a dog if you hadn't guessed yet.)

You may have been on when I mentioned Fiona would escape at night and come and bark out front wanting Tigger to come out and play. Tigger would pace and whimper since wanted to go run the streets with Fiona and we wouldn't let him. Too, I think Tigger felt Fiona needed his protection. They are doggie nutts for each other. Seriously. Very cute though.

LYNN? Lynn is busy learning a 3D computer program to be competitive in his freelance art business for the Trade Show Industry. Among the many stage drawings he does he does Applebees quite often and, OMG, no free mudslide beverages or meal perks for doing. Although, his client, that's Applebee's official liaison, may get some perks.

I hope BARB pops in to fill you in on her life's events, too.

MICHELE, you have been GREATLY missed.

Okay, now your turn to fill us in on Michele's life while MIA.

I'm guessing at grocery store you must have seen your photo on Milk Carton that Shelley arranged so you'd phone (post) home to us here. Gosh, it's good to see you. How's Allie?

Hugs and prayers, SEA xox

Sounds like things are a real mess with Ike destroying everything in it's path.  I had an army friend helping with some of the clean up.  He said it was quite the experience.
Glad you are safe!

awww  Tigger has a girlfriend!  You should take a pic of them and send it to me. Do you have my current email addy?  @live.com?

I've actually decided to get certified as a teacher to teach English to foreign students.  I'm starting classes soon that last about 8 weeks.  I've been asked if I would be interested to go to Asia or Europe and help teach for a year.  All you need is a bachelors (which i have) and be certified. I think that would be a fun time but so very scared to go that far by myself.  What do you think SEA?  I figure I would do something like that now while I still have no kids. And I currently hate the job I have.  I could also make some pretty good money and get most of my students loan paid off by doing that.  But geesh.........be so far from family and friends!  So many pros and cons!  I don't know what to do!

Allie is doing well.  Still a sweet kitty! She turned 8 last month!  No cake for her tho. ;) And I turned 31 on 9/11.   What a day huh?!?

Time to zip over the dentist.  I chipped one of my teethers.  :)

Good to see you too SEA!  I've missed you and everyone here!

I don't think this board lets you post links.

Hope you are having a good day.  ;)
