Thank You for Saying This

Quote From: n2psychnsg

Dear Dr. Phil, what you and your wife did, plus all the other celebrities,  was the most unselfish act that I have ever seen.  Just the joy brought to the children and to see their smiles brought a warmness to my heart.  I would not begrudge any child, my only concern was that I never heard you say the Mississippi Gulfcoast.  All I heard was that you had been to New Orleans.  We need to understand that what happened to New Orleans was horrific but we also need to put the blame where it should be. New Orleans never took a direct hit from the hurricane.  They had a direct hit from incompitent leaders that were supposed to be there for their people.  We all know that the levi's broke due to mismanagement.  What happened after that was a nightmare.  Now the Mississippe Gulfcoast, the complete 28 miles of man made beach and several blocks inland were totally washed away.   Towns were washed away.   I hope that you also included our children from the Mississppi Gulfcoast , the same Mississippi Gulfcoast that will take years to rebuild.  All children are innocent and they have ALL suffered loss.  There is more to the Gulfcoast region then just New Orleans.
I was reading the messages before posting my thoughts and found my exact thought posted by you.  I never heard Mississippi mentioned and we suffered and are still suffering as much or more than New Orleans.  I just hope at least one MS child was there!

A Big Thank You!

Quote From: gstroop877

I hope many girls in our Troop have seen this show.  We are planning to help out victims of Katrina by doing a book drive for Kiln, Mississippi to help restock their library at Gulfview Elementary.  We are looking for books for grades kindergarten through 5th.  I am using any form of publicity to get the word out.  We already have a trucking company donating a truck to get our cargo out there.  If anyone has any ideas or know any other ways to help us out let me know.  We are from Plainfield, IL.  We are a troop of 25 Girl Scouts.

Thanks.

Michelle

I am from MS and want to say thank you to you girls for thinking about the kids over here!  Your books will be so appreciated and well loved!

Tent Reference

Dr. Phil - I would really appreciate it if you would stop using the "I'd rather be in a tent" reference when trying to make your point about happiness. I am from Gulf Coast Mississippi and I can tell you without a doubt YOU WOULD NOT RATHER BE IN A TENT THAN..... (fill in the blank). Living in a tent is one of the WORST things someone has to do and you using that analogy makes it seem you did "just fall off the turnip truck".  Please think about those down here that are living in tents because that is the only place they have to live and find another metaphor for your "happiness" analogy.

Thank you

03/09 Family Chaos

Quote From: shay74

I am sure he did not mean it that way, but I can certainly understand where you might feel that way. I think Brigette NEEDS to spend a day or more in your shoes(or any other of the people in the gulfcoast  ares hit by Katrina) so she can see what real life really is.
I'm sure he didn't mean it the way it sounded, but sometimes Dr. Phil says things that he should really think about first. (Still love watching the show, though!) But if he ever HAD to live in a tent the way some of the people down here have had to do, I'm sure he would never say that again. And I do agree that sending Brigette (and her husband AND children) down here to help out for a few weeks might just give all of them a different perspective on life! Thanks for thinking about us down here!

Gifts for Gulfport

As a Katrina survivor in Mississippi, I just wanted to say "thank you" for remembering and bringing gifts to some of our kids down this way. Without Toys for Tots, the Firemen from New York City, celebrities like you and Robin, and so many "folks", there would have been many, many children down here with very little for the holidays. The number of needy families has risen a hundred-fold since the storm, hard working people who are just squeaking by due to mortgages on slabs, rebuilding, repairing if you had anything left to repair, replacing everything you ever owned ... well, last year there were so many gift-less children! This year there are more gifts for more children! But don't forget about us down here, please! It will be years before we are back to anything remotely resembling "normal"!

There is help out there

Quote From: jt8025

I am a 26 year old parent of two wonderful children.  I have watched you're show every since you have been on TV.  I don't know what to do in the sense that I have just lost my job 2 weeks b4 Christmas and my kids are gonna have no Christmas presents on Christmas Day b/c i can't afford them.  I have to pay my bills and my bills are very expensive.  I went to the doctor about 2 weeks ago and he said i need a surgeory. I have no insurance no money, and my kids are gonna have no christmas.  I really wish that everything was different so my kids can have a Christmas, b/c it is very important to me.  I know the meaning of Christmas is about the birth of Jesus and they know it also, i have always made sure they know the true meaning of Christmas.  I am just really depressed about the whole situation, and don't know what to do.  Can you help me figure out what to do Dr. Phil?
Contact the Salvation Army or Toys for Tots in your area. Also call your local Chamber of Commerce. I am sure there is help out there to see to it your kids have a few gifts! Good luck!

From the Past

Quote From: detta77

Dear Dr phil, and other faithful viewers, I have inside, behind the scenes info on the fashion Industry I am a Fashion Designer and have been to quite a few runway shows in San Francisco. Its repulsive what some of the models do to stay thin i have fitted and dresed many (some celebs).  believe me its not just the models who are expected to look this way . I  have been discriminated against when trying to get a job in the Fashion Industry because I dont look the part as some have said to me, I have even had a teacher at the Fashion College that i attended in S.F tell me that the Fashion Industry is about beautiful people and they only hire beautiful people. This crushed me,  it is disgusting to know that i will be hired solely  on my looks and not on my talents and skills as a designer. On top of that Designers are behind the scenes creating what these celebs wear so what does it matter what  I look like. Some people need to wake up and stop incouraging this bad behavior.  I see my nine year old daughter becoming a victim of the thin vs. fat isues in her elementry school. WHERE DO WE DRAW THE LINE!!!

Back in the late 70's/early 80's I was modeling, runway and specialty modeling. Back then 5'7" was the minimum height and size 6 was the normal size for the clothing. I was 5'7" and weighed in at around 110 (naturally thin, no diets or purging, etc). However, even at that time I saw models purging, using laxatives, etc. in order to stay thin enough to fit into the clothing. That was the criteria ... fitting into the clothing. Today is even worse! By today's standards I would have been close to being a plus-size model even at a size 6! And the attitudes have not changed either ... when I started I was told I was nothing more than a piece of meat to hang the clothes on ... so maybe there has been an improvement if models have moved to 'hangers' instead of 'meat'. I guess my point is, while things have changed, they have also stayed the same ... and in some ways has gotten worse. Models from Twiggy through Kate Moss have been the bane of every normal size female and will continue to be so until we, the women, STOP BUYING THE CLOTHING! It has been years since I have bought a designer label because of the meat market and the signal it sends to girls of all ages. Maybe if more people stop buying from the labels that consider a size 12 to be "plus size" and demand that clothing be realistic for real women we could bring about a change!

Forgive my rambling! I hope what I wrote makes sense.

12/12 Convince Me!

Quote From: ginaperez

Here is the deal.  I work in a High fashion bridal salon.  I just got the new sizes for prom and brides maids,  4 of our vendors changed there sizes.  If you were a  10, you are now a 12.  SO ON AND SO ON.  For one second, dont think the fashonista and icons that run your catologs and magazines dont have there hands in it.  They do!!

Which is another reason many women have a body image problem! For years they wore a specific size, then all of a sudden they are one or two sizes "bigger".  Which, in some cases, leads to women trying to get back down to the "size" they always wore having no idea that they ARE wearing the size they always wore!

Veronica Stage "Mother"

As a one-time casting associate I can say one thing emphatically - I would never have cast Veronica's child in anything on pain of keeping my job! No producer or director would tolerate the antics of that type of mother on the set.

Katrina in Mississippi

I would just like to remind the Dr. Phil show ... and the rest of America ... that we have a bunch of kids (and adults) beating the odds right here in Mississippi, odds just as bad as New Orleans. I get so tired of everyone forgetting that we suffered, too, and we have mainly suffered in silence since it seems New Orleans is the only place in the entire United States that was hurt by Katrina. Thanks a lot, Dr. Phil and Robin, for once again forgetting about the great state of Mississippi that is still trying to recover, too.
