I had to comment on this one.  You say you could see "dagerous psycological ramifications" to children with and "Auntie Mom" or and "Uncle Dad".  But what about the kids with a "Mom Dad" or a "Dad Mom"?

I don't think that she was being racist. Just my opinion.

Even if she was I don't htink that she should have lost her job over it. It was none of their business and the cab company had no right to record the conversation without her permission.

I think it was racist.  I can see asking for an English speaking driver, if your child is going alone tho.

What does anyone think of this idea...If you are on public assistance and have X number of children, you are forced to be sterilized.  Anyone?

Happy Thanksgiving, and good luck at the grocery store tomorrow. I am glad we will be going to my husband's grandparent's house tomorrow for dinner so I don't have to cook.
Hey Mitzy, just wanted to say your little boy is just adorable!

I hate to see a child speak to their parent in a rude mannor at the store, you wnat to trip the kids or something and shake the parent. what is worse is to be at a friends house and their child speak ugly and your friend ask how do you get your kids to be so good. So you laugh it off and the hold time your thinking that if your friend would just  say what she means and mean what she said both her and the child would be better off.

this gets under my skin the most is when your at a B.Q party and a child is sitting in a chair that is a adults and won't get up until someone ( not a Parent) says something to them and then the Parent get up from their chair and lets the child sit instead of telling them to go play. I will never get that lol...

I can remember back when my daughter was young (maybe 8 or 9) and 2 of my friends and their kids were over.  My D kept coming in the house and hanging around us and I told her to go play, the grownups wanted to talk. Well she hemmed and hawwed around, so next time she had a friend over, I just hung around them the whole time.  She was like Mom why are you in here, and I asked her if she remembered when my friends were over.  That was the end of that.  : )

This is a two-fer...J and K.L.  I like the mention of "crap T.V."  I think that I am no prude, I admit that I do NOT always use the "QUEEN'S ENGLISH", but when did all of this start, and why?  I remember a long time ago...Holly and Jon were pretty young, so they were in bed, I went in my room to take a shower...flicked on channel 7 figuring to catch the 11O'clock Eyewitness News and as I was getting undressed I hear someone being called a PR*%K...so I assumed I had put on a cable chanel by mistake, went to look, and no...it was NYPD BLUE, and Sipowitz said it..twice.  It shocked me...never heard that on the regular channels, but I have noticed in watching SVU, they say SOB, they say Pr*%k...this is channel 4.  I'm so used to it, I don't even flinch, but I will say, some of what was my favorite show...Grey's Anatomy is going wayyyy beyond my feeling comfortable watching it with Holly.  If Jon is around, we both sort of turn green...so I stopped watching.  The plot is lost and I swear to you, it had some border line soft core porn, IMO...which I do NOT care to watch.

South Park...I was introduced to THAT by Heather...my kids were not allowed to watch it, but their friends were..in 4th grade.  Family Guy, I don't know...but that South Park is not for children...

We really have gone too far.  There are movie channels that you can watch and they are uncut, but regular T.V. starting at 9P.M.  it's pretty out there.  I'm not a fan of Survvor, or the Idol shows, but at least you CAN watch Dancing With the Stars and be with your 18 year old son.

We started to erode a good ten years back, and many programs have become "crap T.V."  There really is not much you can see without hearing someone moaning in the bedroom, or looking at bloody graphic gore.  I swear, I am watching Deal or no Deal...and I read..a lot.  I play music.  My kids don't like it either, but compared to what most are watching, this is tame!  We started with our own programs...NYPD..a little Pr*%k here, a naked butt there, and our kids are the product of US accepting this on Prime Time...for ourselves.

i remember watching Laverne and Shirley, Happy days, Welcome Back Kotter, Sanford and Son...funny thing, my kids watch them on a cable channel, because the network shows really are not funny.  I feel better when they laugh at The Jeffersons ,All in the Family...and realize this WAS what we allowed in our living rooms. THEY were funny.  I don't know where we went wrong...The Nanny, the Golden Girls, Cosby, Mad About You...I loved those shows.  Now, my kids are watching their re-runs.

We lost respect for OURSELVES somewhere along the line, and I think the mentality has spilled over to a lot of kids...very scary and I'm sorry, it's not funny, it's vile.  T.V. doesn't interest me that much, maybe why I was so glued to the debates and the Political interviews.  I got to do the cursing at them!  LOL!..but is really isn't funny.

I ABSOLUTELY agree!!!  I am not a prude, but I will never understand why you have to put a pretty graphic sex scene into a show about a hospital or whatnot.  Not that is would be better if it actually fit into the plot, but 97% of the time it is purely gratuitous.  Oh yeah, I don't have cable anymore, but they can say the F word on Comedy Central at night now.  I remembered that from when we had cable, and my daughter said something about it the other night.  Said she couldn't believe it, and she throws that word around far to frequently herself.
