I'm a Culinary Arts Instructor and have been asked to write an article on the childhood obesity epidemic for a local paper.

I know my friends and families thoughts on the topic, but I need thought from others.  I recorded Thursday's episode of Dr. Phil, but haven't had a chance to watch it.  I'm glad I recorded it because I got tasked with the article this morning.

Anyways,  without turning this into an argument or flame-war, please tell me your thoughts on Childhood Obesity, parent's and media's role, school's contribution with removing P.E. from a lot of schools or the school's meal choices on their serving lines (healthy vs. unhealthy and what the students choose).

Thank you.

Kids now simply eat too much and never get enough exercize. They wont walk 2 blocks if it can be avoided, and spend far too much time on the couch ! Our Fast Food habit is a huge part of the problem, vending machine for soda etc in schools is another facet of the same coin.

Nearly all kids will go through a "fatty" stage just before or during puberity, and parents should be aware of that. Its normal, and they will loose it fairly soon.

School lunches ? Yea Gods ! Pizza and Burritos ? They are simply beyond help !

Two missing girls

This show has not aired yet, so I'm not sure which religious group they belong to but Id hazard a guess that they are Amish from the pictures. It doesn't matter too much which group, Amish, Mennonite, Hutterite etc. The thing is that these groups live very well organized communal lives. Their religion is the corner stone of each group and the rules and laws of these groups differ from the mainstream of American life.

I dint know yet if this couple married  in the secular world, but if they DIDN'T, if they married under the laws and rules of the community where the Father now lives, then the Mother KNEW that according to those rules..the children belong to the community !! NOT the parents alone..but the whole community.

Its not the way of those of us who do not live in one  of these long established religious communities, but its their way and always has been. These are not "crackpot" people, they are very good citizens all around...they are just different.

Dint be too quick to Judge !

Use your head, not your heart !

I've been around on the web for years and I've heard so much about on-line romances. I've only heard of ONE time it worked ! Those two were both very cautious, took thier time and had more than one meeting on neutral territory befor they felt they could trust each other fully. A lesson to be learned here !

Anyone who asks you for money is probably out to take you ! Doesnt matter how much he/she says she loves you, or what they say they need it for ,you best be VERY sure indeed that you know what your doing !

About the e-mail scams...its the same deal..if they ask you for money, delete it up front ! If you dont know who its from in the first place you shouldn't even open it. The stories they tell to get your bucks are simply unbelievable...eveything from a child with cancer needing help to you won the Lottery somewhere ! ALWAYS check Urban ledgends or another reliable source before you jump into thier messes.

In closing, anyone who asks you for money.."Boyfriend" or "Girlfriend" is probably out to clean you out..USE YOUR HEAD, NOT YOUR HEART !

E-mail addresses

It's unfortunate, but there are people on-line who do nothing but gather addresses. They are paid for each fresh one they dig up. Those lists are then used by scammers to mass e-mail, hoping someone will bite on thier scam.

The others pop up in chat rooms, on dating sites and message boards.....most are looking for one thing. Someone to scam. Seems that if they pish long enough, someone will eventually fall for thier sob story and start handing out the cash.

One reason so many are from Nigaria is our laws dont effect them, they are out of reach. They also have the idea, or so it seems, that Americans are all rich and stupid !

Ill almost lay you odds that if you are chatting up someone on line who is looking for money, you wont be the only one he/she is telling the same stories.

All you really can do is protect yourself. If  it seems a bit "odd" in some way..either in e-mail or in person...run, dont walk !
