Hi Linda

Hi Beverly

Eight months------WOW that is something. I have always heard about "well you need to reward yourself for doing such a good job". The reward of just being free from smoking is reward enough itself. You are doing great, so proud of you.

This board at times moves slowly in people posting, but when you really need support there is someone that will pop up. I'm so glad you were able to come back to the board.

I haven't seen the commercial you talked about, I'll keep my eye out for it.

HI Linda,

Wow you are almost at two years. How the time really flies. You know when I first quit smoking I did not want to count the days of quitting, because I did not want to have to say "I quit for three months". I do love have the counter and seeing how long its been. How much I saved. How much life I gained back especially. For the first time ever I can actually say I have succeeded in quitting. Someone had asked does the craving go away. I would definitely say that the craving can still be there but it is so different. Couple of deep breaths and it's gone. Not really a big deal. Nothing like when you first quit. It does get way better. Nice to hear from you. Watch for that commercial it's funny. Maybe just for me. That was me. I am glad not to have that feeling anymore.

Trying to Quit Smoking?

Quote From: ragdawg

Hi everyone,

I quit smoking 8 days ago after about 30 years of on and off smoking. Hopefully for the last time. Except for the third day, it wasn't too bad. I tried to prepare myself for the first few days by getting replacements for the cigarettes. I ate a lot of sunflower seeds. I bought snack foods that wouldn't pack on too many pounds, such as fresh fruits and vegetables, dried fruit snacks, almonds, and cashews . The best thing I purchased was coffee flavored hard candy made by sweet n low. I don't drink coffee, but the candy seemed to ease the urge to smoke for me. Now I just need to loose some weight and exercise more.

Hi

Good for you for choosing to quit for the last time after 30 years. It's good to find that replacement. It really does help. For me it was Cinnamon or peppermint gum or candy. I guess it was the the spicy feeling was kind of shocking to the taste buds so it took away from the craving. I chewed lots of gum. Lots and lots of deep breaths are key.

Hello

Quote From: daddyz

Hello Everybody!!!

Well after 3 tries, after 3 princesses (daughters) and another prince or princess due in May, I have tossed my, hopefully, last cigarette butt. I work the grave yard shift and had to work New Years Eve. I slapped that nicoderm patch on my shoulder right on the countdown, Jan, 01, 2007.

I tapered down prior. It's been 13 days and I feel great. I have a bottle of water where ever I go, and a bottle of toothpicks. I do believe this is it. I find having a toothpick in my mouth helps me to NOT THINK of having a cigarette. I also use the Popeye candy sticks. Remember those?

I will NOT pay cigarette companies my hard earned dollar to shorten the time I have with my beautiful wife and daughters. Thats all I keep telling myself . How dare they!!!!

Onward  we go! To flinch or falter never. Smoke free together, To be smoke free forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi

It is very good to find what works for you.. I feel finding that replacement really helps with successfully quitting. This is the longest I have ever quit except for when I was pregnant. For me it was gum lots and lots of gum. Regular gum not the niccorette. I carried a pack of gum with me as I would a pack of cigarettes. I no longer need it but it definitely helped me to quit. I also have four children and want to be around for them.

Trying to Quit Smoking?

Quote From: millymill37

I AM IN DESPERATE HELP TO STOP SMOKING.  I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL LAST MONTH FOR SHORTNESS OF BREATH,CHEST PAINS, ACT.,AND THE WHOLE TIME I WAS IN THERE I DID NIOOT HAVE THE NEED TO SMOKE. BUT ONCE I STARTED FEELING BETTER I WENT BACK TO SMOKING. I WANT TO QUIT, BUT I AM UNDER A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF STRESS, DO O A TENAGE SON1 WHAT SHOULD I DO? SOMEONE HELP ME.

Hi. I was there last year. I was playing with my children at the park and I just couldn't catch my breath and had such awful chest pains. That was when I decided no more. I bought the patch. I never really read the pamphlet that comes with it but this time I did and it said to pick a quit date that was not to far in the distance. I did. I use the patch for short of a week and I got a bad reaction from it. So I stuck with it I did it cold turkey no help but from gum lots and lots of gum and really how weird it sounds but really deep cleansing breaths. I have a teenage daughter and a preteen and an 8yr old. I know about the stress. I wasn't the nicest person for the first couple of weeks. That pain won't go away. I kept telling myself it would but it didn't it only got worst. This message board here also really helped me. I was here almost every day. There was such wonderful people here to support me.

All the best to you

Beverly
