09/18 Parents Falsely Accused?

Quote From: rhawkins08

I am wondering if all these people that think it is SO WRONG to leave your children in the car within sight have ever had a sleeping child in a car, while in the middle of a Michigan snow storm??  If you work full time, then your kids are in child care, so you are forced to do errands during a lunch hour (if you get one) and then you have to run home and get dinner and bedtime started.  And then the stay at home mothers usually don't have relief until the husband comes home (which is usually late), so when can errands be done??????  Running around with a baby and toddler isn't always the easiest thing in the world, some people should try it sometime.....

I have 3 children - now 22, 20 and 16 and never once did I leave them unattended in a car.

What has a snow storm got to do with leaving your child, that you chose to bring into this world, in a car by themselves.

You chose to have the children, so "running around with a baby and a toddler " is something you should have been used to doing.

Do not play God with your childrens lives - never leave them in a car.

09/18 Parents Falsely Accused?

I dont think this mother was falsely accused.

And after watching her on the show today, I feel she got what she deserved.

She was sitting there so high and mighty like she did nothing wrong - but she did.

She left her child alone in a car - parked in what appeared to be a no parking zone from the video - while watching her other children go and drop money in a kettle.

Anything could have happened even though she was standing only 30 feet away - and I have absolutely no sympathy for her!

Her car could have been rammed from the back or the side and burst into flames and what could she have done - absolutely nothing.  No car seat could have done anything for that little innocent child.

She should have waited until her husband was home and then driven her 2 other children - parked in a proper spot and took them to the kettle.

09/15 Money Matters: Surviving the Crisis

Quote From: cjcbleighton

I can guarantee that a lot of people go on the Dr. Phil show hoping that he will bail them out financially.  They aren't stupid.  They have obviously watched his show before and know that in certain situations he will have other companies donate services or the Dr. Phil Foundation will hand over a check.  That first couple on the show got themselves into this situation and they don't want to hear tips from Dr. Phil on how to get out of it...they were hoping he would say, "Ok here is a check to help you out"  Here's an idea....GO OUT AND GET A JOB!!!!!!  The husband doesn't want his wife working because it will be chaotic at home??  Well....if you financial situation stays the way it is you won't have to worry about a chaotic house anyway because you will lose your house.  Smarten up!!!

The Extreme Makeover couple pissed me off.  They didn't even seem appreciative for having a house given to them.......what was the reason anyway???  because they had a lot of kids???  Well, a lot of people have a lot of kids.  So why did they deserve that house more than someone else?  I will bet there are millions more people out there who were more deserving than that couple.  How do we know these people don't trash their house, then make a video to send to extreme makeover just to get pity?  What did they do with the $100,000 the show gave them?  The man said, "look at our house, do you see a range rover parked out there"   Ok, so maybe he parked in the garage.  It seems as though they are now blaming extreme makeover by saying, "No, the show didn't pay off our mortgage"  Well, BOO HOO.  Who said they had to?  Most people don't get the luxury of having someone else pay off their mortgage.  And they say their mortgage is $1000.  I wish my mortgage was only $1000!!!  Mine is almost 3 times that, but you don't hear me bitching about "the show didn't pay my mortgage and it costs X amount a month for upkeep, and blah, blah, blah"  Do you know why I am not bitching??  Because both my husband and I have these crazy things called..................JOBS!!!!!!!   and what exactly is the upkeep of their house.  It's brand new.  what do they possibly need to upkeep???  I wish they would have told us what they spend $6000 a month for on upkeep!

Then they refinanced 3 times for a total of $450,000!!!!! and they have nothing to show for it?  that money is just gone!!???   This is their own fault and they now want someone else to bail them out!!!!

WOW, YOU DEFINETELY HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD WITH BOTH YOUR RESPONSES.

Way to go!

Both couples got themselves into the mess they are in - now get themselves out by GETTING A JOB!

09/18 Parents Falsely Accused?

Quote From: momfourboy

22, 20 and 16 huh?  Sounds pretty easy.  You had one in school all day by the time your youngest was running around.  Little ones always have their own agendas.  How sad for you to judge others when you have never been in their situation!

I MOST DEFINETELY HAVE BEEN IN THEIR SITUATION.

Even when I had one in school all day, I had my other 2 kids with me.

And if I needed to go to a store with them, both my kids were taken out of the car and with me.

When my middle child started Kindergarten, the parking lot was right at the school door - and I always took my youngest out of the car seat - even in snow and sleet - and had them with me.

My children mean the world to me and there is no way I would have put any of them in danger by leaving them in the car.

And for you to judge me, when you were not in my shoes, is sad!!

I'm totally surprised at the number of people on here that say it's ok to leave their kids in the car. It's not ok and it's against the law! I've raised 5 kids and no I have never once left any of them in a car without another adult in the car with them, not even for a minute. IT"S NOT SAFE!!! You can make all the excuses you want but that doesn't make it right. If you don't want to take care of your children then don't have them in the first place!!

I agree with you 100%!!!!!

09/18 Parents Falsely Accused?

Quote From: duckman82

I must say I was a bit surprised at the over simplification of the circumstances surrounding the mother leaving her two year-old in the vehicle unattended at the beginning of the show.  From the video, reportedly taken by the husband, it appears the distance from the vehicle to the area where the Salvation Army's kettle was was much more than 30 feet.  Also in that studio there wasn't a support beam blocking the sight line, there was no traffic passing through the sight line, it wasn't dark, and it wasn't raining.  Watching the gimmick with the measuring tape, I feel Dr. Phil was pandering to this woman's assertion that she did nothing wrong, and thus she felt her child was never at risk.

That said, I agree the police did use poor judgment in executing a full-blown custodial arrest.  As suggested by another poster, the police should have prepared a report and either applied for a criminal summons and served it on the woman at a later date, or the investigation and their completed report should have been forwarded to the local district/state's attorney for review and recommendation as to whether the woman should have been criminally charged or not.

I totally agree with you on this.

Dr. Phil really blew it with the tape measure on stage.  Like you state the same conditions were not replicated in this scene on the stage and I felt, as did you, that Dr. Phil was catering to this woman.

I am also surprised at the husband filming the scene when he arrived instead of dealing with his children and his wife.  Makes me wonder!!!!

I saw the same thing on the video that the Kettle was way more than 30 feet as she states - this woman was trying everything to look good on TV instead of owning up to what she did.  Her holier than thou attitude really sucked and Dr. Phil was not much better and I did write him to tell him that.

09/18 Parents Falsely Accused?

Quote From: thinkinblinkin

stepping out, 30 feet away, in a sleet storm, is much different than going shopping... a child can 'choke' at school, as well...should the mother accompany the child to school, too? Do you have children, or just enjoy pointing out other people's actions so you can feel good about yourself??? Common sense is a wonderful thing, too bad you did not get any...

Your comments are totally ridiculous!

Yes we all know that a child can choke anywhere, anytime no we dont have to accompany our children to school.

The letter write that you responded to had great points and that no child should be left alone in a car.  It only takes a second for an accident to occur (cars being driven forward instead of reversing) and that child would have been killed and the mother could not have done anything - even from her so called 30 feet away.  And looking at the video again she was way more than 30 feet from her car.

Guaranteed if something had happend and the child injured or worse, the cops who she has totally put down, would have been the first people she would have been crying to.

To bad you did not get any common sense!

SO RIGHT!

Quote From: getrealtime

Casey has been in her parents home now for 3 weeks and no one is asking her any question about where is Calyee.  This disturbes me!!!!!! If the grandparents really thinks that the child is alive why??? are they not on her to tell them more then just the lies she has been telling???? everthing she has told is a lie, so how can they see her in their house day in and day out knowing she is the only one that can save Caylee, but remains silent. That tells me alot about the grandparents, They know something, because there is no way they could sit by  week after week with the one person that has the answers to their questions and they say nothing to her ask her nothing and has come forth with nothing.

I totally agree with you.

I don't know how any grandparent, or any individual for that matter, could have this girl living in their home for the past 3 weeks and not grill her for information on where their grandbaby is!

This is their grandchild that is missing and was missing for over a month before the mother reported her, what a terrible, terrible shame.

This poor little girl is most probably dead at the hands of her mother and the grandparents, in my opinion, are just as much to blame for not dealing with their daughter to find out her whereabouts, so that this little girl can have a proper farewell from people that love her.

If, from what I have heard, the grandparents saw Caylee almost everyday, why did they not report something earlier when they did not see her.

I know for a fact, that if my parents did not see any of their grandbabies for over a month, they would definetely be finding out what the problem was.

Lets all band together for little Caylee, find her and bring her home, even if it is for a farewell!

09/26 Fighting the System

Quote From: ibspeaking

I watched the video tape.  The show is not even over and I have to comment.  She mentions that she has tramatic head injury.  She used to write all the time.  Now she has brain damage.  However, with this new health problem she has no problem recollecting exactly what she said to the officers.  I am in no way condoning what happened.  Yes, she was thrown to the ground.  Her arm was pulled behind her back.  Yes her head was wacked into the table.  But she keeps saying she doesn't know why they are beating her up.  There was no beating up.  Where did anyone punch on her???  I just wish she wouldn't exagerate what happened.  The overkill is prompted by an attorney wanting more money.

Yes, she should sue.  But, please keep in mind these security people are very worried about the fact she is carrying liquid in a container over the size allowed.  Everyone and their dog knows those rules by now.  She flies all over 4 her job, she knows it is wrong.

Again, how is it her brain can recollect in detail exactly what was said and done if she is so brain damaged.????? She communicates well, she can walk, .........

I totally agree with you!

I am in the midst of watching this and I cannot see the punches that would constitute her saying she was beat up.

And she does have a great recollection of exactly what she said to the officers and what they said to her and yet she states she cannot write anymore as she has brain damage?  And she keept stating that she did not know she was getting beat up?  Come on - if someone was beating me up, I would know it.

I dont think she is telling Dr. Phil everything and that she must have said something that made them suspicious and why they reacted the way they did.

Another person out wanting money!!!

09/26 Fighting the System

Quote From: KathySue

Dr. Phil has always said that no matter how flat you make a pancake, it has two sides.  We are only hearing one side of the story about the women who got beat up.  I just don't believe that she would have been handled this roughly unless she was giving the security people problems.  I would love to hear the airport security's side of the story.  But I understand they can't discuss it now because of the lawsuit.   So why not wait to do this story until we can hear both sides of the story??  Let's face it, trouble-makers never admit that they were the ones who caused the problem.   (And nothing that happened to her is worth $10 million dollars.)

You are so right on here.

This story should have waited until the security people had a chance to speak and give their side of the story.

This women is not as innocent as she is making herself out to be and $10 milliion dollars is absolutely ridiculous - I hope that she does not get it.

Shame on your Dr. Phil for not letting both sides speak.
