It's definately not new
This is definately not a new issue. Over 20 years ago I began an 8 year relationship with a woman just after my 16th birthday. She was a teacher at my highschool and was 22 years old. My parents found out and tried to keep us apart, but that doesn't work. We both denied what was going on to them, everyone else, and for a long time to ourselves. What complicated this was that it was a 'same-sex' relationship....and the first for both of us.
