guys like meat

Quote From: eraswoman

I just wanted to point out that it's not only girls feeling like they need to be perfect, but boys, guys, men, see the same things and it turns into what they think girls should look like. That's all part of it... to get guys to like you, you're competing with all those perfect, images... talk about pressure!
All the men I know like women with meat on their bones. Guys know when women are too skinny and  most of them don't find it attractive.

Mental Illness

Quote From: chicagokat10

She talked about how her brother was such a great guy and she loved him so much. How come she didn't take him in and try to help him. Let him stay with her til he finds a job rather than live on the street..

I think she indicated that something was wrong with him mentally and that he would leave home. Some homeless people have mental illnesses.

12/12 Convince Me!

Quote From: briankw

Models are supposed to be an ideal (fantasy) why does the average woman need to feel they look like that ? I don't look anything like a male model, they all have square jaws and are over 6 ft tall. GET OVER IT!  Overweight models are NOT physically attractive. btw IF YOU DON'T LIKE SEEING SKINNY MODELS...DON'T BUY THE MAGAZINES WITH SKINNY MODELS!!!!

I think you missed Dr. Phil's point. It's a about responsibility to society. The images shown in magazines have effects on teen girls to where many are anoxeric or bulimic trying to be like what they see and are told is beauty.  It effects some grown women to this extent also.

Fashion guy was wrong

Quote From: jojoki

There was no size zero in the sixties.

Most dress sizes began at size six.

My girlfriend was 5 ft tall and she had to shop in the little girl's section of Stone & Thomas.

WAS IT JUST ME OR DID THAT DESIGNER TOOK A LITTLE PUDGY?

I was just about to post that was he said was incorrect.  You are correct. There was never a size 0 way back then. I majored in Fashion Design and Visual Communications. I had to take several Art History classes and the History of Fashion class. In the Art History classes we saw paintings by artists depicting women in various sizes throughout history. I am also love too watch old movies to see the clothes worn back then. Marilyn Monroe, Jane Russell, Raquel Welch, Sophia Loren, and other women they called Hollywood's sex symbols would be considered overweight by today's fashion industry and  the Hollywood Industry's standards.

Not intelligent?

Quote From: newwhamo

Fashion shows are art.  The music, lights, set...  No one is trying to sell the exact clothes they send down the runway. The fashion show is for the designer to show their creativity-  no one wears their make up like runway make up-  IT"S A SHOW.  I LOVE THEM - THE WAY THEY ARE>  There are some very tall & thin girls that don't have much intelligence,  & they are perfect for modelling.

Why would you say they don't have much intelligence? You just lumped all models into one group with your derogatory statement. That's not very intelligent or very nice.

beauty

Quote From: jwttlf

But what about when you watch Audry Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's? She was very thin and very beautiful--even by today's standards.
Yes, but Audrey Hepburn was attractive but she is one actress and she wasn't considered a Sex Symbol like Jane Russell, Marilyn Monroe, Raquel Welch, and Sophia Loren. I own a ton of old movies have many books regarding old movies and memorabilia, etc. If you look at a lot of the old movies, many of the female actresses were curvy/ shapely and larger in size than the most Hollywood actresses today and they were considered gorgeous.

12/12 Convince Me!

Quote From: mamluv3

Don't give up on your dream. The statement you made about being "too old" .... I feel you! I've been trying to get into the industry for 20 years now. The other piece of the pie that has kept me out and was never mentioned is the money you need or the connections you have to have to even get a foot in the door. I've lost so much money to modeling scams it's heartbreaking! Beware! I just turned 40. The crazy thing is ....  I was carded today trying to buy cigarettes. What does that tell you?  You're in your 20's so you have more time than I do. Lol Stay positive and be active in your career goals. I'm never giving up on my dream ..Don't give up on yours. See you at the top. God Bless and Happy Holidays.
I can't believe you are 40. Are you kidding? You look like you are in your 20s. LOL. You are very beautiful.

Is it just me or does anyone think it's creepy that they are having teens girls model women's clothing. Something is definitely off here?

Totally agree

Quote From: beeters

I totally agree with what the Father on Dr. Phil is doing.  I was a virgin when I got married, and I am very glad that I was.  I have seen many friends and family members who have suffer from their past sex lives.

With waiting to have sex until I got married, I feel that it has helped my marriage.  I believe that when a girl has sex for the first time, there is an emotional attachement with that boy, and after they break up or if there was no relationship the girl is brooken inside and they do tend to look for the same kind of love and will look for it in any other relationship.

With me waiting until I was married I have nothing to compair my husband to, and my feelings are to him and him only, which brings a strong marriage.

This is just my opinion...

I agree with you on this. I was a virgin too when I got married and have no regrets about it. I was raised in a Christian home and abstinence, as well as, sex education was taught to us when we reached the appropriate age.  I listened to my parents and my heart. I chose to wait and met my husband who is  the most wonderful husband with all the necessary and important qualities I could have ever hoped for in a mate. I thank God that  my father  taught us abstinence, Because my dad had so many good qualities and taught us how to choose the right mate, I was able to recognize a man of integrity, quality and substance, my husband.

Not such a crock

Quote From: pamdavidson

What a crock. Not kissing until you get married? What if that person is a total dud in the sex department, now they are stuck. This father has his head buried in the sand. It is unrealistic to expect anyones children to not experiment in sex. He is doing a disservice to his girls by not talking to them about sex. I don't mean go out and just have sex with anyone. But if you are serious about someone, you should know about that person sexually also. It is an important part of married life and to find out about it when it is too late, is wrong.
My husband was the first guy I ever kissed. I waited until I was married to have sex and have a great sex life with my husband. Even before we were married, I just knew we would have great sex. I was totally sexually attracted to him also. Biblically, sex is intended for marriage only and I think when we follow the plan God has for our lives and choose the right mate, it's always the best  and perfect plan.
