sunny129 there's a difference between 10 cats and 200 cats

This woman is  *not* doing these cats any good.   There is a reason why there are laws in place regarding how many pets a person or household can keep, and that's because too many pets means a lower quality of care for each individual animal.  Do you honestly think this woman can give enough attention to each of those 200 cats?  Do you think each one of those cats gets groomed on a regular basis?  I seriously doubt it.   Do you think each of those cats gets regular visits to the veterinarian?  NO, otherwise she would spend (at least) 200 days out of each year at the vet's office!  Any idea how much that would cost? Mmmhmm.

I'm all for pets, animals, whatever... but there comes a point where it borders on abuse or neglect.    Again, there are laws in place to prevent this type of "animal hoarding" to prevent the abuse and neglect of those poor animals.   And yes, I'm sure her entire property smells of litter box.   I have friends with as few as 2 cats who can't keep their small apartments from smelling of litter box.   Imagine 200 cats pooping and peeing everywhere!  Even on 10 acres, that's 20 cats per acre!  I wouldn't be surprised if the health department or the housing commission get involved.

Again for everyone who thinks 10 acres is a lot of space...

I just finished watching the show. Yes, 200 cats are ALOT, but this woman lives on 10 acres! She must live in the country , so who is to say what she can or can not have on her property! The show did not say how close her neighbors are next to her, but I can not imagine with that amount of property they are right next to her home.

I feel she is doing the right thing rescuing cats, getting them fixed and all the shots ( I assume she also cks them for feline lukemia). She must be spending alot of money on this cause of saving cats and I comende her on this.

I feel there is a deeper motive in this neighbor attack, as it seems to go on a personal level with the one gentlemen and the other gentleman seems to have gotton on the bandwagon as he is not happy with the situation either. These 2 neighbors seem to be wanting to move her out.......I could see this if they lived in town and in a suburb neighborhood, but this is on a large property!

I guess what makes me upset about this is that;
#1She is trying to help animals in a right way and she is getting pushed by bullies
#2She lives on 10 acres in the (country?) and someone is telling her what she can and can not have. If you live in the country and own your own property, no one has the right to tell you to move you junk car , so why should someone tell her how many pets she should have (being only 4)?

One more thing, Dr. Phil and others were saying she should save the pets, fix them up and adopt them all out. Well I am sure alot of these cats are feral or have problems of some sort that alot of people wanting a house cat would not want to adopt. This may be why she has alot of them with her. Although I am sure she is attached to each and every one of them, but it does seem like she tries to find homes for them. But you must remember it is HARD to find good homes for cats. NOt exactly alot of waiting lists going around for cats.
One acre is about 75% as large as a football field.  Imagine 20 cats "roaming" an area 3/4ths the size of a football field.   Doesn't seem so spacious now, does it?

I know a junk hoarder

I live with one.  My boyfriend's grandfather is a major, major hoarder.  I am constantly having to sneak bags of trash out of the house while he isn't looking.  He saves empty containers, empty plastic bags, empty 2 liter bottles, egg cartons, newspapers, juice cartons, jars, those plastic trays that tv dinners come on, etc.   If I throw these items in the trash and he sees them, he will pull them out of the trash can in order to save them!  We've started bagging up all kinds of junk while he's not home and hauling it to the dump ourselves.   Our garage (his "workshop") is completely full (to the ceiling!) with all kinds of garbage he saves "for his projects".  The trouble is, he can't start or finish any "projects" because the entire space is so full of junk you can't walk through it let alone get any "work" done!  Recently the clutter started to overflow into the two car carport that was built adjoining the garage (since noone can park in the garage, for obvious reasons).   He has a flea market shopping problem, where he'll bring home boxes and boxes full of odds and ends that noone else would buy (but he feels like he got a "deal" on it, if he gets a whole box of junk for a few dollars).  So these boxes end up collecting under our carport, and pile up to the point where the property owner's association where we live cited him for it.   There's so much clutter in those two areas that it makes it nearly impossible to keep the interior of the house clutter-free, because a lot of items that belong in the "workshop" are brought into the house because there is no room for them where they ought to be.  It's a constant battle living with someone who hoards junk, so I sympathize with the husband who threatened to divorce his hoarding wife!  I'm so tired of opening the kitchen cabinets and seeing trash in there!  I'm so tired of carrying baskets of laundry on my HEAD because there isn't a path wide enough through the garage to the washer and dryer!  Anyone have any advice on how to get a hoarder to realize they're a hoarder, and not just "thrifty"?
