12/06 Teacher Troubles

I work at a school and i see firsthand how impressionable these kids are, if young girls know a teacher has done porn they will fel like theres not a thing wrong with it, they will see that  here is a teacher who has done porn and they will think its okay after alla teacher done it.

I do agree that it should have been brought up in her hiring process however and since it wasnt then that is on them for not doing a  thorough hiring screening, although she didnt break the law and they hired her she should not have to suffer for it now.

I forgot to say that i dont think she should blame what she did on being bipolar that is just an excuse, for whatever reason she did it   she did and that is that but blaming it on not taking medication for bipolar is bull

I use to substitute teach a few years ago..... please help me understand how it would be impressionalbe for the young girls to know their teacher was in porn.  I knew my teacher was a slut but it did not impress me at all.

When are we ever going to quit judging people.  No one is perfect.  She has cleaned her life up and should be commended for that.  We as humans are not perfect, there has only been and will ever be but one that is able to judge.  Let God do the judging and you be the forgiving one because he forgave you.  Did you never do anything that you have regreted?  Was you punished for that?  I would hate to think I was punished for all the bad decisions I made as a young adult.

Just because I tried  drugs as a teenager, should I not be a nurse?

We need to start cleaning our own houses before we start to clean others!!!!!

If you used to teach then there is no way i should need to help you understand how impressionable young girls are,  you of all people should know this, mind you this women did it twice and then blames it on being bipolar, that makes it all right..

BTW admonishing someone isn't a legitimate argument...it's just a way to avoid the question/point.
I was never here for an argument legitimate or otherwise,  just posting my opinion which i am entitled to just as you are yours..     The point is kids are going to feel certain things are acceptable, if they know their teaher has done it.   Porn is not acceptable to some of us.

12/06 Teacher Troubles

Quote From: istillbelieve

Anna has suffered no more then any other public shcool teacher.  Should teachers take every student to court who have embarrassed or pulled pranks on them???  Come on, grow up Anna! This kind of thing happens every single day and good, caring and COMPASSIONATE teachers find other ways to deal with the problem. Why didn't Anna FIRST try some of the many ideas Dr, Phil had for teaching these kids a lesson? She wants MONEY!!!  And she wants to ruin the life of a child for REVENGE!  The sad thing is that these 2 things will not make her feel better nor will they allow her to move ON....

As to her being afraid??? Was she attacked physically? Was she threatened? She never gave a single reason as to why she was so afraid.  Her pride was hurt and she was embarrassed...............I'm sorry but BIG DEAL! She CHOSE to work in the public school system. Embarrassment and damage to ones pride is par for the course in that enviroment.  Maybe she would be better off teaching at a daycare.

I am not trying to be insensitive to Anna and I don't think what the students did was okay by any means. There should be appropriate punishment and amends made to Anna. But she is taking this whole thing to far. To the EXTREME! As a victim of physical violence I didn't have the bitterness and revenge that is in Anna's heart even after a brutal rape and stabbing. I choose to forgive! Only then could I move ON...........................

I disagree with your statement that this kind of thing happens every day-----------where exactly is it happening everyday????????

What exactly did "the kid" do to commit a felon?  Was it aggravated assault?  Arson?  Burglary?  Murder?  or Rape?  Perhaps "the kid" shoud be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and put to death?  This seems very far-fetched in my opinion but this IS the true reality of a felony conviction!!!
The true reality is even people that recieve the death penalty  sit aroundfor yrs on end while the taxpayers take care of them, so heck yeah why not adda few more.

OH YEAH !!

LET'S SLAP THEM ON THE HAND AND TELL THEM NOT TO DO IT AGAIN.

BECAUSE WE'RE NOT MAKING KIDS AND PARENTS ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS THE KIDS KNOW THAT THEY CAN DO WHATEVER THEY WANT TO WHOEVER THEY WANT, WHENEVER THEY WANT AND NO ONE IS GOING TO HOLD THEM OR THEIR PARENTS ACCOUNTABLE.

THE ASST. PRINCIPLE DESERVERS EVERY PENNY SHE CAN GET FROM THESE KIDS & THEIR PARENTS.

You are exactly right about that , i see it everyday  the kids know they get away with pretty much  anything,  they are disrespectful to teachers and other adults,  and it is only going toget worse.

12/06 Teacher Troubles

Quote From: britmama14

I was a teacher in the Detroit Public School System.  Seven years ago I had to take a disability retirement due to bone problems.  It was the best thing that could have ever happened to me.

I really loved the first grade students that I taught, and was a very creative  reading and math teacher.  However, I encountered racism from the black parents.  I am white female married to a Hispanic man. Detroit has a huge drug problem. Too many of the parents are apathetic, and do not mentally or physically care for their children.  There are lack of meals, warm clothing, encouragement, etc.

Although I have a master's degree plus 60 credits beyond, and spent 8 years, minus 2 summers in college, I think my bone problems were a blessing in disguise.  Teaching is very stressful and so many times thankless.  I try to remember the parents who were good to their children, who did appreciate my work, the many children who were happy when they were learning in my room, earned prizes, etc.  but the bad far outweighed the good.  I really hated it when parents played the race card.

Detroit NEVER has enough text books, work books, pencils, crayons, etc.  I spent in excess of $3K each and every year in the basics.  We were only provided with one case of duplicating paper, and of course had 28+ students in the classroom.  One year I had 37 first graders and NO HELP.  The stories you hear about no toilet paper are TRUE.  There are broken toilets, no doors for privacy, facets that do not work, and hand soap?  You must be kidding.  Where is the health department?

Stress of course is on the administrators from their administrators, and parents who frequently are argumentative and on crack.  Teachers get it both from their administrators and from the parents.  Sound like a job from hell?  Well it is.  My last 6 months on the job were spent each morning with uncontrollable convulsing, trying to vomit, with nothing coming up.  I would highly advise anyone thinking about going into teaching to spend a week in an inner city school system before you think about doing the coursework for the job.  And for those of you who do not believe me, do the same.  Volunteer for a week in your neighborhood school and see what goes on in there.  You will get a renewed respect for teachers, administrators, educational assistants, etc.  Kids are out of control, there seems to be very little to be done, except exclude them, and then when they come back, more times than not, their behavior has not changed too much.  Counselors and social workers are either not hired as the budget does not permit it, or are so overworked with huge caseloads, that it is barely a bandage.

It all starts in the home.  School is no substitute for good parenting.  Parents need to parent, and teachers need to educate.  It is impossible to do when children have no self control.  It all begins in the home.

Am I negative about children, school and teaching now?  You bet.  Am I glad I am out of there?  You bet.  Again, don't believe me? Spend a week, not an hour, not a day, but a week in your local school.  You will get a true perspective.  It is my hope that I reached  at least one person in the entire United States, and they have gone to their local school to check things out.

This program has not aired yet, so I will reserve my comments on the teacher firing.

I know  exactly   what you mean,  and yes anyone that feels different should indeed go to  a school for a week and see the bad attitudes disrespect filthy mouths and you cant do a thing to me  attitude they have all the time, and it pretty much is  this way because nothing is done, as you say they are excluded from things which they dont care about in the first place,  i feel so bad for the small percent of kids who actually have respect and are trying to learn.....the public schools where i live are a big fat joke!!

12/06 Teacher Troubles

Quote From: aldwap

Before becoming a stay-at-home mom I taught middle school and let me tell you, teachers are not always the best role models while they are teaching! Your past has nothing to do with what kind of teacher you are in the classroom. Teachers are human beings and people tend not to acknowledge that! What we do in our personal lives is not who we are when we are teaching your children. We get ridiculed for going out on a Friday night, for things we did before we were teachers, for every mistake we could possibly make and those things that are just part of everyone else's life. I undersatand that teaching is an important job. It runs a very close second to parenting and often is parenting. If a teacher's performance is superior int eh classroom, what they do at home or have done in the past is of no relevance. Teaching is stressful enough without having to worry about every single decision you make in your personal life.
Yeah teaching is stressful, so are alot of other jobs-no one forces anyone to teach if its too stressful do something else!!!
