Con Men and Women amuse me. And sometimes I admire them!

I think in many cases, the folks who get conned aren't that innocent to start with.

Sometimes they are pitifully dumb, but sometimes, esp. in financial cons, are out to make an illegal buck themselves.

09/17 Faking It?

Quote From: foreverblue

I highly disagree with you. You are seem to be a con artist yourself. How could you be amused by another persons misfortune. Especially when it comes to the I Love you cons. Look inside yourself and think about what would happen if someone came and took everything from you. I'm not jokeing. It could happen to you and then you would not be amused.

I'll tell you why I am amused.

Because one of the slogans I learned very early in life is - "If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is!"

I do have a certain amount of sympathy for the "I love you" stuff, though if someone said they loved me to death, I would still keep my separate checking account.  Someone who loves you doesn't ask you to give up everything you have for them.

But those people who "invest" sums like 100,000 or even 500,000 in what they are told is a tax-free deal aren't feel sorry for material - they are greedy, greedy, greedy. They aren't people with 10,000 trying to make it  go further, they are greedy people who want more and more.

Well, I'm not going to get off on the pedofile thread

Quote From: dbeland

I cannot believe how bad this guy is, but what about the catholic church. Do they NOT check out the credentials of their priests. What this couple needs to understand is that God is the one performing the union of the couple. The priest is just a vessel here on earth to do his work. With the way the church is today and all the pedofile priests I would have gone elsewhere to have a wedding.

Not that I don't care mind you,it's just not the subject here.

I would expect any church, mosque or synagogue to check the credentials of anyone working there, too.

I think you are so right :  the couple should understand  that they are married by their own faith and spirit.

Fly Ayatollah Airlines!

Quote From: annieorwell

"There is a time and place to dress that way and other ways."

Who decides those times and places and dress? You?

I don't like women who dress like, um. uh, working girls, but what really scares me is people who think they are better and more moral than others.

Given the choice I'd rather sit next to a woman who has embraced a hooker look than someone who is looking forward to the end of the world and is dressed for it.

Double Jeopardy

Quote From: jannypa

If only they could reverse the rule of Double Jeopardy and put this murderer behind bars where he belongs! To try to make money by writing this confession in disguise just proves what a sociopathic ,narcissistic creep this guy is...does he talk in the book about how he's still trying to find the real "killer"???  What must their children think???

Double jeopardy is one of the finest advances of the American justice system and something to be proud of. If sometimes it lets murders like Simpson off, we just have to sadly live with it, because without it, we'd be seeing a lot of innocent people tormented.

And I think Goldman turned the corner with the book thing - it's getting really difficult to feel for him. Me, anyway.

10/17 Deadly Kids

Considering that many psychopaths claim that they received a message from God to kill certain people, I don't see how religion in the classroom will have any effect on children that are psychotic or sociopathic.

I think this is a horrifying situation, and really don't think that other than intense inpatient treatment there is a solution (and even that fails at times).

Are any of the old breach of promise laws still on the books?

I rememer reading in the late 1960s that some states had laws where a man (only a man) had to compensate a woman if he jilted her (nothing if she jilted him).

Are these laws still on the books?

I think the prosecution deliberately threw the "game"

I think that they were afraid of rioting should OJ have been found guilty, but knew that they had to charge and try him.

Remember that they didn't even say they were going for the death penalty?

10/17 Deadly Kids

Quote From: rena1054

I'm no Dr. Phil but it seems to me these kids have schizophrenia. Unless the prognosis has changed for early onset schizophrenia the prognosis is just about zero to change the child.

Not necessarily.

Not all people with schizophrenia are violent.
