Acctually the laws had nothing to do with married women

Quote From: brady70

THE REASON IT ONLY APPLIED TO MEN WAS BECAUSE IN THE 60,S MOST WOMENT STAYED HOME TO RAISE THE FAMILY AND TAKE CARE OF THE HOUSE. IF THE HUSBAND LEFT HER WHEN SHE WAS 45 OR 50 SHE HAD NO CAREER TO FALL BACK ON AS THEY DO TODAY. ALSO IN THE 60,S WOMEN GOT MARRIED YOUNG. TODAY THE WOMEN DO NOT GET MARRIED UNTIL THEY ARE IN THERE 30'S. THIS IS GOOD BECAUSE A WOMEN DOES NOT FEEL LIKE SHE HAS TO STAY IN A MARRIAGE WHICH SHE IS NOT HAPPY IN BECAUSE SHE HAS A CAREER TO FALL ON. I AM A WOMEN WHO GO MARRIED IN THE LATE 60'S AND BELIEVE ME I NEVER FELT I WAS TRAPPED BECAUSE I HAD WORKED 10 YEARS BEFORE GETTING MARRIED AND DID MY TRAVELING AND HAVING FUN. I WAS 26 WHEN I GOT MARRIED AND NEVER WENT BAR HOPPING AFTER MARRIAGE. I DID GO OUT WITH MY FRIENDS BUT WE WENT TO EACH OTHERS HOUSE OR OUT TO BINGO. I THINK MARRIED MEN AND WOMEN SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM BARS . MY HUSBAND NEVER WENT TO A BAR AFTER GETTING MARRIED AND HE ALWAYS DID BEFORE THAT. IT WAS NOT BECAUSE I DID NOT WANT HIM TO GO HE WAS HAPPY TO STAY HOME AFTER WORK.
They were to provide compensation for jilted fiancees.

Haven't seen the program yet (of course)

...but Amber should git while the gitting is good.

How often does Dr. Phil do programs about battered women and loved ones of dead women who didn't listen to the warning signs when it was already in their faces?

Nice idea, but...

Quote From: ammclare

Our daughter is only 13 yrs old but I have noticed a lot of her friends who have cell phones.   Her friends use texting as a way to communicate back and forth.  Before considering getting her a phone, we looked into blocking the ability of texting.  Our provider will do that upon request.  So, in January when we purchased my husband a cell phone, we were able to get a second one at no cost.  We explained the rules and responsiblities of having a phone.  We had our provider block the ability of texting.

I think more parents should consider that option.

...there are so many parents out there that are scared stiff of their kids.

10/15 The O.J. Book Battle

Quote From: jesusheart

This is truly amazing.....how can the justice system put someone in prison for selling drugs longer than a person who deliberately molest children?  i dont condone drug distribution but send a message to these people .this is truly amazing....i feel very sad for this little girl.......God have mercy on us......these type of individuals are very hard to rehabilitate....if they do it once they will do it again..i have 8 sexual predators living in my neighborhood i have two children.....they all have to register..why make it ok for them to live by so many children...temptation is present everyday.....i dont get it....this man should be in prison for the rest of his life...what he did to that young girl is sick

I think you are in the wrong forum, but this is nothing new, and not just happening in America.

Children are worth very little in the eyes of society and the law, especially when the molesters are members of the family or family "friends", which in most cases they are.

Forgiveness

Quote From: ladylawr

But if the Goldman's don't learn to forgive, then they will be there with him!  Sounds impossible to do, but God would not tell us to forgive, if it was impossible to do.
That is your concept of  God and forgiveness, it is not everybody's.

10/24 Controversial Love Affairs

Emily should get out while the going is good. Sex with a 15 year old and a "porn addiction?" What is she waiting for, to have a daughter that he can rape at home?

And what's this Debbie faking her own death thing about?

10/26 Devastating Divorce

I'm going to be 53 next month, and I remember learning in Alcohol Education back in Yonkers, that 90% or men left their alcoholic wives, while only 10% women left their alcoholic husbands.

The message was meant as a threat to girls that they better be good, but I think the more intelligent girls saw it as just one more point of social inequality towards women.

I for one am glad if more women are refusing to be nursemaid doormats are getting out of bad, bad situations that most men wouldn't have, and probably still wouldn't tolerate.

10/15 The O.J. Book Battle

Quote From: lovemymusic

For the person who said God would not tell us to forgive if it was impossible -

God tells us to forgive seventy times seven.  We are even required to love our enemies.  Forgetting is hard but without forgiveness hatred continues to fester and harm the person that will not offer forgiveness.

You are talking about your religion and not mine.

My religion tells me to go on, but I have no obligation to forgive the person who did something like that, unless s/he comes directly to me to ask for my forgiveness.

Then I am required to give it, but I do not have to initiate it.

10/18 Deadly Kids

Quote From: anon_slc

While personality disorders traditionally have been conceptualized only in adults, it is not uncommon to encounter children and adolescents with the classic diagnostic signs. Youngsters with personality disorders may come across as strikingly arrogant, defiant, and manipulative, yet their demeanor typically masks devastating experiences of vulnerability and pain.  Some of my favorite books that provide a great introduction and insight are:

Treating Personality Disorders in Children and Adolescents:  A Relational Approach by Efrain Bleiberg OR Without Conscience:  The Disturbing World of the Psychopaths Among Us by Robert Hare

Why is it Always About You?:  The Seven Deadly Sins of Narcissism by Sandy Hotchkiss AND Emotional Blackmail:  When the People in Your Life Use Fear, Obligation and Guilt to Manipulate You by Susan Forward OR The Angry Heart by Joseph Santoro and Ronald Cohen

Aggression in Personality Disorders and Perversions by Otto Kernberg OR The Psychology of Lust Murder:  Paraphilia, Sexual Killing, and Serial Homicide by Catherine Purcell and Bruce Arrigo

Getting Help:  The Complete and Authoritative Guide to Self-Assessment and Treatment of Mental Health Problems by Jeffrey Wood OR Healing Anxiety and Depression (7 types of anxiety and depression) by Daniel Amen and Lisa Routh

How to Journal for Therapy:

http://arar.essortment.com/therapyjournali_repu.htm

The best hope for prevention of personality disorders in children lies with parents and other caregivers who are close to children during the early preschool years. Parents must be able to demonstrate empathy and validation in their interactions with the child and with each other. They must also be able to show that they love their children for who they are, not for their appearance, their achievements or their ability to win affection.  And they must focus their parenting efforts on meeting the child's changing needs as he or she matures through the different levels of emotional development during childhood, adolescence and into adulthood.

Hope it helps!

Thank you for another good reading list.

That also drives me crazy!!

Quote From: scorpio21

She should move if she fears for the life of her child and herself.  She probably says "But I love him!!!"  Love won't keep her alive if you fear the one you "love".

As soon as I hear a battered, abused woman, esp. one with children say "but I love him!" my smypathy goes directly down the tubes.

If you are lacking the self respect to think of yourself, at least be a decent mother and think of your child.

Sheeh!!!!!
