10/08 Frankie and Gwen

Quote From: manofgoods

The problem with the relationship with these two is that Frankie is a black male and she is not black. Any non-black woman who gets mixed up with a black male should have their head examined.

Excuse me? How dare you let race come in between of someone who you love? Are you saying that women who are white shouldn't be involved with black men like myself? Give me a break! It shouldn't have anything to do with that. I'm an African-American man myself, & not all African-American men like myself would do anything to hurt women, regardless of race or color of their skin. It's the person inside that counts that makes a person to choose who to trust; & if they can't trust them, they should leave them or not get with them at all. Don't act like you're an expert on it & don't paint an ugly picture of all African-American men being evil. That makes you sound racist in general.

I am surely saying that black men and white women should not be involved. Why would a black man go looking among white women for a wife? Do you consider yourself too good for black women? Are white women prettier and smarter and therefore a better catch for you? And it works both ways. I don't understand white men who get involved with black women. Since none of you have ever set foot in Africa I will not use that hypenated misnomer.

10/10 Troubled Teen Love

Yesterday on Oprah her show was about responsible married couples who can not conceive and yet total idiots like these two have kids like rabbits. They need to be fixed before they have another child.

censoring

Quote From: fromthesquare

So many people are not turning this into a racist thing.  There is 1 individual who is saying all the racist comments on this board.  I am sorry that he was allowed on.  I think he should have been censored. However one good thing came of it.  We all got to look into the mind of racist--  it is a vast, dark and empty place!!

I was taught growing up that you choose Heaven or Hell.  By your life you decide.  If you spread Heaven on earth doing good for others then that is your destiny.  If your mission is to make Hell on earth for others then that is the path you are on.  You chose it not God.

That is just perfect. Somebody has an opinion diferent from yours, which does not make it rascist by the way, and you want it censored. What other comments would you like to be censored. Who gets to choose what is censored? Would that be you or someone else who wants things to be just one way?

The vast, dark and empty place of which you speak is the mind of someone who condems a differing idea and then stands on a soap box and says, "look how good I am".

talking

Quote From: lm1969

How pitiful. These two kids are in a terrible situation. I hope Dr. Phil can talk some sense into them. They need help! I have a 7 year old and I am taping this show to show her in a few years.

I don't know how old you are, but let me give you some advice. Don't worry about showing her a tape of this show. Sit down with her and start talking to her now. She probably already has information and the problem is the source. When our daughter was around 7, a girl in our neighborhood who came over to play told my child some ridiculous story about how girls get pregnant. I think she was around 8 or 9. So right then and there we had a frank talk. This wasn't the first conversation in this area. She had asked me where babies came from when she was around 5. I told her the truth, but the 5 year old's version. So, don't think they are too young for talking about sex. The problem is waiting until it is too late.

10/11 Munchausen Mom

Quote From: tiffany_2007

I agree that she shouldn't have any more children but the courts cant step in like that, thats the same in saying court has the right to tell someone to have a abortion or forced to have a child.
Something could be done. Men who are serial rapists and child molesters have been sterilized so that they can no longer hurt anyone. That same concept can be applied to this woman.

Here we are fighting in another war for the freedoms that we take for granted.  So many white and black Americans have given their lives and limbs fighting for these freedoms.  The freedoms we have however come with a high price.  Racism and all the pain and division it causes should not be tossed about under the guise of "opinion" or "freedom of speech."  You have the right to insult others, make them feel less than you, teach others to hate, but we have the responsibility not to.  There have been plenty of black soldiers who have given their lives for this guy to have this open expression of free speech.  I, as a white person, am sorry that he used his free speech to offend you.  I promise you that he has a life full of anger and pain.  You can't share what you don't have.
I promise you I am a woman who does not have a life full of anger and pain. I am probably 50 times happier than you on any given day.  And you don't have to be sorry about anything I said, thank you very much. Anyone who is offended because I said that I don't like the idea of interracial marriage has more of a problem than I do. And the freedom of speech was given to us by the US Constitution. The main thing that white and black soldiers have died preventing is that we are not using that right to speak German or Japanese or Arabic.

10/12 Homecoming Shooting

Quote From: bjk100

I am beginning to get more and more concerned about letting my son attend college away from home. Just yesterday someone walked into a school in the town where my son is to attend technical college and shot 14 people. I dont want my son, who comes from a small town, to have to be in fear of his life durring this special time in his life. He won a $5,000 scolarship to Ohio Techinal College and is thrilled to death. He is a senior this year and has such a promising life ahead of him. I biggest dread is that phone call in the middle of the night telling me he has died due to some random stupid act of voilence.

I watch you every day and really get a lot of insight from your shows.

Bonnie K****, Niles Michigan

As the parent of a recent college graduate, let me give you some advice. Let your son go to school and enjoy the most wonderful time of his life. He got a scholarship. Congratulations to both of you. And why in the world are you worrying your life away about getting a call in the middle of the night that something has happened to him? What a waste of time? I sure hope you haven't told him about any of that.

Let him go. He'll make new friends. He'll learn how to take care of himself. He'll make mistakes and learn on his own how to get over it. Just be there for him when he wants to talk. But for heaven's sake don't burden him with all of your angst. That won't do either of you any good.

10/12 Homecoming Shooting

Quote From: ukmike

Here in the UK we do not have the right to bear arms, even Police Officers here do not carry gun routinely. The only officers allowed to carry firearms are highly trained and in Specialist units. I was a Police Dog handler K9 unit, I had no access to firearms.

We had an incident in Dunblane Scotland a few year back, a youth who belonged to a gun club opened fire in the local school he killed and injured some children, Our British Tennis star Andy Murray was a pupil at the school and he still shows problems from that time.

Our Government banned all citizens from owning guns even if they belonged to gun clubs, There has not been a problem again since. That is not to say that we got rid of the reason why someone would want to carry out such an awful act, I believe the reasons in our society still exist. If you disenfranchise people for long enough they will snap and react as you have seen in your shootings at US schools.

So you have at least two things to deal with, Gun ownership and the bigger problem of how individuals are being treated by the community. The later is more difficult because perhaps we do not like to own up to the fact that somehow we are allowing things to happen in our schools like bullying, physically and physiologically. By the fact we focus on the winners and completely sideline those less capable.

We do not get the Dr.Phil show live here and I would be interested to hear what the good Dr has to say about the causes and the ways we can end the problems.

Dr. Phil talks more sense than any man I know, if he cannot help then what chance do the rest of us stand to solve the problem.

Allow me to comment on this. The International Crime Victims Survey showed that England and Wales ranked second overall in violent crime among industrialized nations. In England 26% of the population had been the victim of violent crime. Australia, who also took guns from its citizens, led the list with 30% of its population being victimized. The US did not even make the list. All types of crime are high in countries where the government has taken the right to carry a gun from its citizens. And who would want to live in a country where the police could not carry guns? I sure wouldn't be bragging about that. And don't get into that tripe about disenfranchised people. These are people who can not handle their anger or some perceived putdown to themselves. One thing that would protect our children is to send all teachers to a top notch gun safety course and teach them practical shooting so that they can stop these shooters before it turns into Columbine or Virginia Tech. An armed teacher at either one of those schools would have saved a lot of lives. The reason the crime rate is low in states that have given their citizens the right to carry a concealed weapon is because the criminals know we are not pushovers like in other countries. If these students knew that the teachers had guns and would not hesitate to protect the kids in their classes, we would see these shootings stop.

DON'T TAKE AWAY MY RIGHT TO OWN MY GUN

Quote From: bree4me

This is the reason I have such a HATE for guns!!! And this constitutional right everyone complains about I have a right!! Crap, do you not remember when the constitution was written??? Back then it was a wilderness with wild animals and a new land with people who needed protection. It was a different time. People always say guns don't kill people, people kill people!!!!!!!!!!! BALONEY, if they weren't here, there wouldn't be this problem. No one in my family EVER owned a gun and I don't advocate anyone owning one! They are nothing but  problems waiting to happen. To easy to obtain, to easy to use, to easy to kill with. PERIOD. I love your show Dr. Phil I try to watch every day!!!!

The reason for having a gun today is more important than the times which you have mentioned. They are drugs and gangs. Gang members are our modern day wild animals. My husband and I grew up with guns and we both have our concealed weapons permits as does our 22 year old daughter. She was raised to be responsible around guns just as we were. Guns are not as easy to get as a car is and on any given day of the week more people are killed in car wrecks than by a gun. This is a fact. Are we to deny car ownership? You say you hate guns but if you were in a situation where somebody was going to harm you and someone with a gun saved you butt, you would be most grateful, I am sure.

AGREE

Quote From: joshuatree48

I graduated high school in 1976.  This stuff just didn't happen then.  It was unheard of.  I believe the reason kids are going "ballistic" these days is simple.  Just like drugs, they have access to things we never had. Guns, knives, drugs, alcohol, violent video games - - its all around them.  I think the only solution to tame these out of control kids is to crack down big time.  Parents give into their whims because their children's friends have it all.  They feel guilty if they dont provide them with the latest, newest thing.  I lived without a cell phone and I'm doing just fine.  Parents are handing children things they should not have access too.  And what their parents won't give them, they can find easily on the streets.  I say go back to uniforms in school, no driving off campus for lunch, bring back curfews that are reasonable, and the list can go on and on.  We need to turn to the past way of life in order to control the future.  Morals are out the window.  Kids are depressed because they don't have every single thing their peers had.  They EXPECT a car for their 16th birthday.  Out the window is the notion they need to work to earn it.  It's a sad day.  I was the most "uncool" mom on earth, divorced and left to raise 2 girls on my own with no child support from their dad who could not be located.  My girls were PO'd, would occasionally say "I hate you," etc., when I said no.  But now I have my oldest in medical school and my youngest is married and has a baby on the way with a wonderful husband.  Now they thank me for saying no.  Some of their friends didn't fare so well with their lives, the one's who had it all.  Lets get back to basics.  That's what it's going to take.

Your are so right. Parents give into their kids too readily. You see it in some place like Wal-Mart, even if it is near Christmas. Kids are screaming to get a toy and the parents give in. So they are taught all they have to do is pitch a fit or try to embarass their parent in a store and they get their way. And they spend hundreds of dollars on those ridiculous video games machines with the expensive games. The kids are inside all the time playing the games and not outside playing and using their imagination and expending some of their energy. The parents use the games as a tyype of livein babysitter. The child is out of their hair ;what do they care? On top of no outlet for their natural energies, they are getting obese, right aloing with their parents. Maybe if time went back to when moms and dads took time to go outside together and play and interact, the children would get the feeling that somebody cared. And don't give me that "I work and I don't have time." This is your child. Take time. We did with our daughter and my husband and I both worked full time. The memories will be around long after the video machine has been dumped in the trash.
