Dr. Phil,
I recently found out that my granddaughter how is 19 months old had her right thumb removed due to MRSA. It seems that the source of the MRSA came from the daycare she attends. She is a thumb sucker and had a small cut on her right thumb, while in attendance at the day care, she came in contact with another child and or the germ of MRSA, I am not sure how long it took before she got sick and ended up have to have her little thumb removed.
My daughter lives in Port St Lucie, Florida with her husband and my soon to be 8 year old grandson. I know that my daughter is a very good mother and a clean freak and very careful with the health of her childern. In fact she is in the medical field and within a sterile environment all day.
Being a 51 year old mother and Grandmother who has raised my child of 28 years, I have to say that in all of these years I never really knew about MRSA. While watching your show today about MRSA as we speak, is a eye opener. I am sure that my daughter is also watching the show today. I hope that she writes you and shares in more detail what has happened to my sweet and so young granddaughter.
I am so worried that the MRSA germ or infection may still be in her blood system.. So worried that the doctor did not get it all, I can't image loosing such a young child... I can only pray that all will be good and she is able to adjust to not having her thumb.......
Thank you for helping us all to understand more about MRSA....
Lynn
