Walking Across America

I did some research on the www.thefatmanwalking.com web site. Seems he will be walking very near where I live in Missouri. I will have to stop by and pay him a visit.

As for my training for Peloton Project' Ride For The Roses I have had my ups and downs but I am still on the path. I have been nursing a problem with my right foot that has kept me off the bike for a few weeks. I will return to training again later this week.

As soon as the ride is over in October I will post pictures for you all to see. You can also check out my web site at www.willsride.com as the date draws near I will get back to posting also on my blog web site.

Sunday July 24th was a great day to see Lance Armstrong win his 7th Tour de France I have been on vacation following the last week of the tour so I could catch all the final stages.

Thanks for all your kind words and support in my bike ride and the great friendships that I have discovered here on this board.

Will

Training In The Rain

Yes it has been a while since my last up date and plenty has been going on. My training was on track along with my form which was looking good then another problem set in.

This time my right foot has developed a problem with a plantar fascia tear. Reviewing the X-Rays with Dr. Hamilton they show arthritis in the top of my foot which I knew I had but it also showed that my arch is starting to collapse. With the arch collapsing this adds stress to the planter tendon causing it to become inflamed and to start to tear. I am now into my second Cortisone shot in the foot and let me tell you they suck big time. To ease the pain of the shot they spray the area with a freeze spray before they give you the injection this was all going on Thursday.

Friday I was on my training bike which is a Nordic Track SL-705 I was still suffering some foot pain but I know I have to get on with it. I still seem to struggle to find my rhythm on the SL-705 for some reason but I enjoy the work out levels that you can set and training feed back it gives you as you ride along.

Today (Sunday) I was back on the bike but this time the Rockhopper outside in the rain.
The place in my foot still has a good pain level but I have to recover my endurance to get this ride done.

I returned wet with a mud stripe down my back from the rain but the ride went good. I was pretty winded when I returned but that is to be expected. Today marks 69 days till the ride in Austin so in the morning I will be at the YMCA or on the bike for another round of suffering working to improve my endurance.

I still need to get the Rockhopper cleaned up and oiled from the ride in the rain this morning.

Keep the faith with me this will be a journey that I will over come and one that I look forward to doing.

Thanks For Reading,
Will

Dee,   The Ride For The Roses is a charity event, so it's really not a race. The ride benefits the Lance Armstrong Cancer Foundation so I am using it as a event to get in better shape and do something in the name of my Mother who passed away 3 days after her Cancer surgery due to medical complications.   It will be a fun ride more than anything with Cancer survivors, care takers and anyone else who supports the cause. They are expecting several Thousand riders in all different levels from all over the world. No telling who all famous will be riding in the lead peloton with Lance, last year was Robin Williams, and Sheryl Crow to name a few of the riders along with some of his team mates and fellow racers from all over Europe and the rest of the world. That group will be riding in what is called a century which is 100 miles which at this point in my life is something that I am not able to do let alone train for right now but who knows about next year.   Right now I will be just happy to finish what part of the course Danielle and I have set out to ride. We have never been to nothing like this in our life so this will be a father/daughter learning experience for both of us. I had always wanted to do one of the local MS 150 rides for a long time just to say I did it. As a kid I rode my bike everywhere but when I turned 16 fast cars became the focal point so all that stamina I once had is since long gone. As I learned more about the Lance Armstrong Foundation during my Mother's illness I felt this was something I needed to do as a way in my Mothers name for not only her but for Danielle and I as a father/daughter thing we can look back on years from now and say we did together. We are working on keeping our pace line together and endurance so we can hammer the hills in the course with out any problems.   If anyone wants more information here is my web site www.willsride.com it has more info and some pictures and when the event is over I will post the Ride For The Roses pictures we take.   Thanks again for everyone's support on the board who have donated to my ride and all the moral support you given back to me.   LIVESTRONG, Will

MR Moderator WE NEED HELP!!!!!

I have created a new user name on your board for Pat. I have followed all the steps asked. The board has not sent the e-mail to Pats address so she can confirm her name and then sign on.

I can request her user name and password be sent to her e-mail address and it is done several seconds later. But when I request the conformation to be sent I get no answer back at her e mail address. I can send e mail to and from her e-mail account with no problems.

Please look into this and if so contact me please if you still have questions.

Millie Thanks

I am glad your having fun on the bicycle it is a great gift of freedom. Today I kited up that's getting my riding stuff on and headed out. I took my MP3 player along today also and jammed out to some tunes. Music helps set the pace and makes the training ride more bearable and not so boring. I have to keep pushing myself to raise my endurance level and that can be hard, I have to set and look at my long term goal and then this weeks goal. It would be so easy to say naa turn back and head home when you get tired but you have to reach the goal at the end.   The last part of the ride I sprint while thinking in my mind to a favorite Tour de France stage, hey's it's my day dream and that makes it fun. Next week I will layer on another mile on to the ride, but I always take my cell phone just in case I would need help along the way on my Tour de Missouri. It's 67 days and counting til the Ride for The Roses.   LIVESTRONG, Will

Welcome

Quote From: glburt

hi everyone, i'm new to this site and message board, am reading dr phil's ultimate weight solution book and resolving to do this for myself finally, instead of everyone else. have quite a few health problems all related to weight issue. if i dont get rid of this i will not be able to walk due to infection setting in fluid from swelling in my leg. either that or i wont live. quite a choice eh? but still soooooooo very hard,i think making this step to do it for me, not because dr told me i needed to, or a nasty comment made by someone is a turning point for me? i am 44 years old, married with 3 children ages 26, 21 and 11. work 2 full time jobs and lead a busy life. any tips that can be given to keep me on the path, please please please feel free.!! please take care!!! and God Bless each of u.

glennda

Glennda, glad you have made it to our board. Sorry I am so late in posting back to you but I was catching up from a few days off. Plan out your meals a day in advance then set up as much of the meal for the next day in case you run out of time. Working 2 jobs you have to be stressed and not getting enough rest and the right food each meal.

Drink plenty of water I have 3 bottles that I fill each day so when they are empty I have my water goal done. Also it helps to take things one step at at time instead of looking at the whole project this was you can have several mini goals that will total up to the final long term goal.

Plan your work and work your plan and good luck, remember you never fail until you quit getting up to try again.

The Austin ride gets closer

I just finished up a ride on my training bike inside as the Austin ride gets closer 58 days from now. In doing some research seems 2 more people in the town next to me has joined the ride. I felt pretty good with the cadance today being a bit higher than normal, I rode with my head phones on pumping out a good rhythm to Collective Soul's song Shine.     Music seems to help turn the pedals in anger as I ride towards a new me. This year has been filled with plenty of challenges from the dive in the dirt I took in November last year to my back giving me trouble two different times and stopping my training completely till it was all better. No matter what the issues are even my latest problem with my right foot I am still on course to make the ride. Sad to say I will not be at the form I had hoped for early in the year but non the less I will be in Austin on the bike doing the ride no matter what, "Pain Is Temporary Quitting Lasts Forever" to borrow a line from Lance Armstrong.     This weekend I am off so Danielle, Nick & I will do a early morning ride before the heat sets in as we work to get our pace line down and taking turns doing pulls.     Jan keep the faith we will have you on a bike some how just keep working what you have for now and don't lose sight of your goal and LIVESTRONG!     Pat great to see you back on the board your making good progress again.       Thanks For Reading, Will

The Best way I found

The best way I have found is write out your post then cut and paste it. This way the web site does not time out like it does on the longer posts.

I hope that helps.

On a sadder note today I received a call from a buddy of mine telling me a old friends son was killed in a car wreck, hold your friends close and check on each other. You do not know what tomorrow might bring.
