sober for 18 days

I have been sober for 18 days now and LOVING it. I drank everyday, with maybe 5 days  without drinking, for the past 18 years. My husband and I would have "OUR HAPPY HOUR" and continue all night till bedtime and I would just pass out anyway. How our marriage has survived is by the grace of God I`m sure.

I know there are probably people reading this that maybe in the same situation and I say just quit now because it is a very hard decision to make and when you do make it, it is hard to stay sober. I take 1 hour, min., and sec at a time without any help.I have alot of family support and when I announced that I have quit drinking they clapped, what have I done at family functions was the question I asked myself.

My husband still drinks every night but by himself and he has cut down with me not drinking, so his day is coming and he supports me in my decision.

I hope I have opened some eyes and one thing I have to acknowledge and that is I NEVER, EVER DROVE DRUNK. I always drank at home or if we were out we took cabs and that is one thing I can say I was not a selfish drunk.

Oh, and by the way we don`t have kids and if we did, the drinking would have never become a problem.

Wish me luck in my soberity.

Take care, from Canada

121/2 yrs apart

My husband is 121/2 yrs older than me (he is 55, I`m 42) and we have been together for 18 yrs, married for 16 and are happy.

I have a problem with the grlfriend of this guy,she acted like she was 7. I do believe she had a couple of tantrums right on the stage and I think Dr. Phil could have pulled her bottom lip off the floor and right over her head, my god, what is that 40 yr old man thinking?

I agree with his friend( even if he did talk too much) that girl is more than a golddigger, she is a wannabe, who wants to be a "Paris Hilton".

Come on Man, you are a very handsome man whois replacing the loss of your wife, who was very beautiful, with a bimbo. Your wife must be turning in her grave with her replacement. There are alot of very bright, intelligent, beautiful 30 and 40 yr olds who would love to be with you, I`m sure and would love you for more than  what you give them.

I hope you wake up to this some day soon and listen to your friends and family they know you better than an 18 yr old who has only known you for 5 minutes, or thinks she does.

Good Luck!!

Run far away

Too bad Pierre didn`t see his wife drinking to excess because of this situation. Amanda, I`m so glad you are getting help for your drinking. I have been sober for 7 months and feel 100% better for it, so stick to it!! Pierre, please stand by your wife, and if the purse strings mean that much to you just let Amanda go and let her get healthy again. Good luck from Canada to you both.
