03/03 Teens and Sex with Bishop T.D. Jakes

I am so bothered by yesterdays show and  maybe this will sound judgemental but can someone tell me when it became okay for a 14 year old to tell her mother what she was going to do? I have to laugh because I seem to remember that when i was growing there were boys and girls as well. Why are we not talking to our kids? By the way, do any of these girls know how to say NO! One of the first things my mother told me was "all boys will try but you have a mouth and they cant do anything unless you let them"~  Of course we know thats not true but I do seem to recall that working and them leaving for someone who would say yes but ...I LIVED!  In this day and age if they are having sex at 14, by 20 most of these girls have had more sex partners than I will ever have. I am appalled at that in this day and age when STDS  and HIV  is all over.

I will mention as well if these  kids are being so responsible why is it they cannot take thier butt to a Planned Parenthood who does not require any longer that your parents be notified if you are going to get birth control? Why should we make it easier for them by handing out condoms in HS? They had these flyers up in my school when I was growing up.

I was a single mother at 27 --working and pretty much able to take care of myself. At that age I cant even tell you how putting that child in my arms made me feel. No one can prepare you no matter how many things they tell you for that so how can a 12/13/14 year old be ready?

Please moms talk to you girls ... My heart breaks everytime i see them. As women we have come so far only to let men dictate our future again. Please let these girls know they were not put on this earth to be amusement for men only.

I'M 13 MY SELF AND  I THINK THAT THAT IS A GREAT IDEA TO PASS OUT BIRTH -CONTROL AT SCHOOL!!! IF TEENS ARE SMART ENOUGH TO KNOW THAT THEY WANT TO HAVE SEX AND THAT THEY ARE GONNA THEN THEY SHOULD BE ON IT AND IF THEY TAKE IT THEN LET THEM!!! IF THE PARENTS HAVE A PROBLEM THATS TO BAD BECAUSE REALLY THERE IS KNOW PERFECT TEEN OUT THERE AND SO THE PARENT HAS KNOW CONTROL OVER IT !!!!! GOOD FOR ANY TEEN THAT IS ON IT !!! IT IS THE SAFEST WAY TO GO!!!! I ALSO THINK THAT IN EVERY SCHOOL STARTING IN 6TH. GRADE THAT THEY SHOULD BE ON BIRTH-CONTROL!!! I DO KNOW THAT MY CHILD IS GOING TO!!!!!

ALL OF 13 ARE YA? THEN TAKE YOURSELF TO A CLINIC --GET CHECKED AND GET YOURSELF ON BIRTH CONTROL. WHILE YOU'RE THERE PERHAPS YOU CAN STAY FOR ONE OF THE CLASSES THEY ARE HOLDING WHICH CAN EDUCATE YOU ON STDS AND TEENAGE PREGNANCY.

I SURE DONT WANT TO HAVE TO PAY MORE TAXES SO THAT YOU CAN HAVE SEX AND SINCE YOU ARE SO SMART AND RESPOSIBLE   I DONT SEE WHY I SHOULD.

I cant believe that we are discussing maternity leave for kids in school! How much would we be talking about???

I was allowed 2 weeks in 1984 when i had my son~of course that was after working for  12 years and  I think it has been changed since. I really think that instead of soliciting condoms and worrying about maternity leave in HS, we should somehow get this country to enforce parents TO BE PARENTS! Is anyone getting sick of people saying they dont want to argue with thier children?? I sure as hell am.

The truth is that abstinence only education does not work. Teens who are given only abstinence education, and teens who take purity pledges, get pregnant and acquire STD's at the SAME rate as those who do not. The teens learning abstinence may delay sexual activity  by a few months, but they are also more likely to engage in risky behaviors such as oral or anal sex, or sex without any form of pregnancy/STD protection. Those are the statistics, whether you like them or not.

It amazes me that the people most adamantly against any sex outside of marriage stubbornly insist upon a method of education that has such abysmal success rates. There are factors which have been shown to deter teens from risky behaviors (not just sex, but drugs and other types of trouble) but they do not include morality lectures or scare tactics. If you read Dr. Phil's Family First book he shows a research study that indicates that the number one reason teens refrain from risky behaviors was not parental influence or religion, but rather those teens had clear life goals with a lot to lose by screwing up.

Teens need factual information. Stating things like self-esteem and emotional well-being being damaged by anything other than wedding night purity is NOT a fact. It is simply an opinion with many degrees of validity. Sexual purity does NOT guarantee self-esteem and emotional well-being. I am loathe to encourage anyone (even unintentionally) to marry young for the sake of having sex. Young peole getting married have a horrible rate of success. Facts would be biologically correct information about reproductive health and STDs. If you tell teens that they will absolutely get an STD and be an emotional train wreck should they engage in pre-marital sex, once they figure out you have lied to them, they will distrust EVERYTHING you have tried to teach them.  They need the correct statistics on pregnancy, STDs and prevention. I am not all advocating teen sex, but doesn't it make more sense to find a tactic that actually might work rather to cling to tactics that have been proved over and over to fail?

Thank you for reminding people of that ! I am proof positive birth control does not work!!!

Why does everyone keep putting God into this equation? Most of the kids nowadays arent even raised in a religious home or with religion? God has nothing to do with thie lack of  morals. I dont understand why people are complaining about sex not being taught in schools when it is and has been for years.

It is a parents responsiblity to talk to thier kids. Its a parents responsibility to find out what these kids are learning and answer any additional questions. My son knows more about sex from school than i do ...so stop blaming the schools.Seriously, if your children are having sex and getting pregnant~what the hell were all of you doing that you didnt know?

I have to say the biggest problem today is that parents back down way quick and perhaps if they took the time and interest in thier kids these kids would not be going through outside sources and getting incorrect information.

Also there are people in here complaining about "gay" sex being taught and just so you all know, it is and for those who keep quoting the bible~i have never seen this passage and quite frankly i could care less if it is there. What i do know is,    I spent 10 hours delivering a son and if it should turn out that he is "gay" --he will still be my son. There are a million things worse that he could be and that is not my biggest problem!

Seems like people on here just want to dump on everyone and everything when the simplest solution is to just TAKE CARE OF  YOUR KIDS! Too many excuses!

I am in my 20s and I feel it is sad that people are having sex as early as they are.  I remember back in college I sat at a table with 10 of my friends and I was the ONLY virgin.  What is wrong with that picture?  There seems to be no morals left in our society.  I am a responsible intelligent person and even as such there is no way I would have been able to raise a kid at 13 or deal with the fact that I was going to have to live with AIDS at that age.  With this in mind and b/c I knew it was wrong I never had sex at that age.  It is up to the parents to put morals into their kids!  These kids on the show are soooo clueless.  Schools should never give out birth control to kids under 18 because they are telling them it is ok to do something it is not.  Schools don't let kids cheat on tests b/c it is wrong and therefore they should not say it is ok to have sex either.  Divorce rates are so high already!  KIDS having sex is not helping.  Come on people, lets take back our society.  You wouldn't let your kids cheat in school b/c they are jeopardizing their future therefore don't let them have sex b/c obviously that is going to jeopardize their future even more.  If your kid comes to you and says they are having sex, don't give them birth control...give them a punishment for doing wrong.

good for you! my son  also believes as you do so i know that you are not the only one..  believe it or not i still believe guys are actually looking for ladies like you ....  you have no idea how glad i am that there are some of you left out there! be true to yourself and dont get caught up in what your friends do!!

How can you take God, the author of sex, out of the equation?  And did you hear the kids at the round table on Dr. Phils show?  Every single one of them said they dont like talking to their parents about sex, let alone hear what God has to say about it, and why would they when someone else is ready to give them sugar coated information that is easier to go along with.

For one reason when  i was raising my son not one of his friends was practicing any sort of religion.

I am in NY and Christianity is not a big deal here.... therefore, how can you expect kids who are not practicing any faith to care? In the end it comes down to a personal choice and I dont see how God should be involved if these kids are not believing in him or are we just supposed to forget those children?? Please understand no matter what my beliefs are or yours .... this is a new world and lots of children are not being raised with God like it or not!

this topic is really not about God ~ i dont recall thinking about Him the moment i was going to have sex.  there are people on here  who think that kids even care about religion when in fact a lot do not.

i would never judge a person for having pre marital sex but i really wish they were more informed. now i dont know where most of you went to school but in mine WE WERE TAUGHT! i do also remember signs being hung up all over the school for "planned parenthood" so those things are out there!

the truth is the BEST information i recieved was from my own mother, who was a bit "old fashioned" for that time but  she was not judgemental or damning me to hell if i made a decision to have sex. the fact is whatever she didnt discuss i was able to get from the library and from places such as planned parenthood. however they can never prepare you for the outcome of stds or pregnancy in the Real world!

my problem with the show was at 14, i just dont think you are ready. any person can lay down but mentally you are not prepared for the repercussions of it. a 14 yr old can never comprehend what it is like to raise a child if she gets pregnant ...they dont know the cost of things and though some do know how to nurture, there are so many  other things involved.  plus if they are starting to have sex at 14 they will most likely have quite a few more partners and with or without condoms the possiblility of stds is more than likely at some point. CONDOMS DO BREAK!

Is it just me, or did someone else pick up on the father's calling upon Jesus to bring out the truth.  Has it still not occurred to anyone that maybe Jesus did just that today on the show.  That is, bringing out that he is to a bare minimum of 93%, and MORE, is lying and did molest both mother and son.  And only God knows who else.

I was beginning to wonder if it was me.  I dont recall seeing any scripture which states that it was alright for a father to molest his daughter. As far as that test is concerned...FACT : HE MOLESTED OTHERS and I dont care if the test was 100% or not. Its  a known fact that child molesters cannot be cured and while I might not believe all this young lady said because i think over time some of it might have been distorted, I believe enough to know that man is just plain sick! I also will say its the people on this board who dont see anything wrong with what he did which makes this world a very very scary place to live in. I believe in God, but I also believe people need to take responsibility for thier own actions and stop referring to him to compensate for thier own inability to take care of thier own issues.
