Good for Sheri-Lynn

I applaud Sheri for having the courage to go on the Dr. Phil show and expose her father as the molester he is. It wasn't easy for her as anyone who's been abused knows. It helped me to see this program. I was sexually abused throughout my childhood. I had absolutely no idea until I was forty years old and saw my niece sitting on my Mom's lap, and knew there was something wrong with the look on my mother's face. I began to wake up to my own abuse then and was able to tell my brother not to let his daughter be alone with her grandma. He of course screamed at me and was angry with me for years, but his wife listened and made sure that child was never alone with my mother. My niece is now a beautiful happy young woman in her second year of college.Despite the horror, pain and rejection I experienced from my family and relatives, it was worth it.

I appreciate that Dr. Phil is addressing this problem publicly. This is a huge problem in our society, and the more  the issue can be addressed publicly, the more we can protect our children, and comfort those who've been abused.

Parenting with Love and Logic

I am amazed that hitting kids is still allowed in schools, and obviously those parents on the show need help. I was a teacher and a pricipal for 27 years. The best information I found for myself, my colleagues and parents, was Jim Faye's "Parenting with Love and Logic." He made us laugh, and gave us respectful yet firm plans for dealing with unruly behavior at home and in the classroom. There's so much good information out there. It needs to be read and shared, and should be taught to all teachers so they can help parents. "Helicopters, Drill Sergeants and Consultants" is great for parents with teens.

Thanks Dr. Phil

I want to thank Dr. Phil for bringing this issue into the light. I also want to thank him for treating everyone with respect, even the craziest of the bunch. This is a huge problem for our society, and I hope Dr. Phil's efforts will help us all learn how to deal with it, so we can protect our children.

Mom and Dad Decide

Quote From: bigkey75

I think the only people that should have the right to make decisions abouth the childs best intrest should be the mother and the father! If neither want the child to have contact with the grandparents then that shouldn't be an issue for the courts or anybody else! The only time the grandparents should have that right is if both parents are deceased or if neither are fit take care for the child! Sometimes I believe the court system has more control over your child than the actual parents! I think the only time the courts should be involed is in custody  cases!

I completely agree with you!

Acting!!!

Both mom and grandma seem to enjoy acting. Perhaps they should join their local theatre.

Grandma needs to relax so the kid can relax. It's hard enough to be a teenager without grandma suing the parents.

Back off grandma for a year or two. If you be quiet and quit causing trouble for awhile, you might be invited back.

So True

Quote From: bobbieb123

You can't happily be someone's husband (or wife) until you are your own best friend.
It took me many years of suffering to learn this lesson. It was such a relief when I finally got it. Suddenly, my life was peaceful, because I was taking care of myself. It made all the difference. Then I wasn't so disturbed, and attracted people who were not so disturbed. It was the best thing I ever did for myself, to learn this lesson.   I am perpetually grateful to my psychologists and psychiatrist, who guided me to this place.

To his wife

Run from him and don't look back. He has tons of work to do before he can be anyone's partner. Maybe never. Good luck to you.

You Said It

Quote From: cazzie1515

I am a 31 year old high school teacher and tennis coach. I have also suffered with bulimia for the past 17 years. A year and a half ago, I decided to get control of my life and checked myself into an inpatient facility.  I struggle each and everyday with my eating disorder, exercise addiction, and anxiety. I continue to spend thousands of dollars and countless hours in therapy. I am in the dentist's office every month because I have destroyed my teeth and gums. Bulimia controlled my life for 17 years. I describe it as living in a colorless world. There was so much beauty and life around me, but I was so consumed with my eating disorder that I was never able to live my life.  I was numb to the world.

It is not an easy recovery. I am fighting for my life. I am fighting against the voice in my head that tells me I am never good enough, not deserving of love, and never wants me to feel anything.

I am writing this in hopes that someone who is suffering reads this and knows there are other people out there who understand. There is hope. It CAN be done.

Getting treatment saved my life; and now I get to live it. Please get help.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Thank you for leading the way down the  difficult path that  leads to health and peace.

Con Man

It looks like she's his first big hit in the conning business. He got to be on The Dr Phil Show right out of high school because of her.

He was good at conning until proved to be a complete liar. Are we sure he isn't a thirty-five year old masquerading in the body of a teenager.

I Agree

Quote From: bridget32212

THE YOUNG GIRL MISSES MCDONALDS WHEN SHE THINKS OF THE UNITED STATES..ARE YOU SERIOUS? SHE SAID "THEY DIDNT TEACH US ABOUT THE MIDDLE EAST"...REFERRING TO SCHOOL....WE ARE NOT SPEAKING OF A YOUNG LADY WHO IS WISE BEYOND HER AGE HERE. EIGHTEEN OR NOT, SHE STILL SEEMS TO BE DEPENDANT ON MOM TO SOME DEGREE AND LIKE I SAID, NOT VERY MATURE. I DONT JUDGE MOM, BUT THE COMPUTER AND CELL PHONE WOULD HAVE BEEN ON A PLANE TO THE MIDDLE EAST BEFORE MY DAUGHTER.  LOOKING FORWARD TO AN UPDATE ON THIS YOUNG ONE.
This girl is so immature. So dreamy eyed and in love. Thank god Dr. Phil was willing to take the father's position. She'll be very glad he did when she's older.
