There's more

Quote From: efffy_

Just watched the video. I'm speechless. Horrified, disgusted, angry... This should be front page news and replayed over and over. It makes me sick that people know what Madonna is doing, but not what is going on.

I completely agree. I'll never take my family into Stark County, Ohio. Especially since one of the followups to that story included the investigation by the Ohio Attorney General's office concluded that no wrong doing took place. That horrifies me more than the incident in itself.

... Confusing

Quote From: iyfnewyorker

That's really messed up, but what does it have to do with the topic of being transgender?

I have to ask, if a person born with only male genetials and with the guidance of a professional transexually to female genetials. This person would already be female despite a birth defect of her genetials. True or False?

If she lives in Stark County, calls 911, and recieves the same treatment as Hope Steffey, would she have been mistreated by her correcting her genetials?

OK, I've pretty much been neutral on this subject but after seeing an upcoming documentary that is going to be on TV I have to say something. Has everyone seen that man who is giving birth? Where do we draw the lines? You take a woman who wants to be a male, OK, that's fine. But then she also decides she/he wants to have a baby. Then he/she is actually willing to do a documentary about it. You see a man pushing to give birth, doesn't this look odd to anyone besides me? Pick the sex you want or need to be and then stick to it. You wonder why TG's aren't accepted? Does this really help the cause any? No, instead it turns it into a freak show. I feel that if this TG wanted to have that child then he/she should have been much more private about it. TG's don't want to be judged, yet they are on TV showing a man giving birth! Yes, I know I'm being redundant here but it just blows my mind. All of this talk about violence and not being accepted, maybe if things were done where society had a chance to get used to it instead of having it shoved in their face. I can't help but wonder how many people out there will watch this, or just see the ad and become even more judgmental instead of understanding. Shouldn't the wishes of TG's be tempered with a little common sense?

Are you talking about the man who announced his pregnancy on April 1, 2007? At least that's when the situation was on the news in Ohio.

Locally, If I recall correctly, the majority of people are waiting for the due date, others believe the announcement was a April Fool's Day prank and an utter hoax.

Personally, I'm waiting for the birth, but I am highly suspicious.

First I've heard that

Quote From: x15gal

He has already given birth to their first healthy child and is now preganant with a second child. Definitely not an April Fools Prank or anything to be suspicious about.

Michelle

This is the first that I've heard; the man the news broadcasted his story on April Fool's Day last year with a Febuary due date didn't recieve a followup, and I searched both wkyc and Fox Cleveland's websites for the followup and came up empty.

You're right though. There's no reason to be suspicious at this point, but I'm utterly shocked that neither news agency made their promised followup to the story. Thank you for the update.

Barbara Walters did a really excellent interview with the couple last week. In it they revealed that he is pregnant with their second child. The story was handled with compassion and reasonableness, although she definitely asked a few questions where her eyebrows had been raised by what they were doing.

Michelle

Cool, I'll have to see if she has a website with the video or try You Tube. I still don't get that two of the biggest local news stations didn't give the story any followups. I find that odd.

President Obama

To the racism references, A). Ward votes are equal to another ward's votes regardless of population size. B). Wards are dominantly divided to grant either the Republicans or Democrats an edge. C). Very few States have divided their wards based on cultural/ethnic differences.
To sum it up, elections are based on our shared American culture, and a wards votes are protected against tyranny of the majority based on population. However, our votes are not protected based on political divide.

I expect the government as a whole to work together to bring stability and regain prosperiety to our country.

Political viewpoint

Quote From: getrealtime

I thought what Obama did in the inaug. speech was petty, did not mention one good thing Bush did as our Pres. Even went as far to claim that he was going to be the Pres that helps poor countrys as the man stood behided him listening on is the pres. that has done more for aids and poor country ever in this country history and that would be Bush. obama did not say he was going to take Bushes reins and go futher but stated it as if it was a bold fresh Idea. what a class act.  NOT.

I don't agree with everything Bush has done,  But we where safe under him and have not suffered any more attacks. for 6 of Bushes years we had a 95% job rate until the Dem took over the house and pushed their agenda and ignored what was going on in the housing market that they pushed leaders into home loans for folks that could not afford loans at any other time in this countrys history. Bush did deregulate but who where the  folks that it was there job to over see? The Houses and who ran the house? the Dems.

As for Ann she is alittle over the top for me, but in any interview she has done no one has claimed that her statistics are B.S  so if her data is right don't hate the messager and ignore the truth because it make some feel uncomfortable.

II think that you're granting President George W. Bush too much credit. President George W. Bush and prior to 2006 the Republican Majority in Congress weakened areas of the country especially educationally as well as economically. In 2006, the Democrats attained majority in Congress, and neither party worked towards a compromise. Both parties routinely issued ultimatums against the other until the recession grew too bad to ignore. Had they worked towards a compromise rather than givng each other a my way or highway speech. The situation would not be as bad as it is now.
I disagree with your statistics remark. Surveys can be made to reflect whatever point that a person wishes to show. Here's two examples:
1). Do you support President Obama's support to murder infants? (Survey Republican dominant areas).
2). Do you support President Obama's support to avoid unplanned pregnancies? (Survey Democratic dominant areas).
See how the question and region would directly impact the two survey's statistics?

First I never spoke about surveys 2nd  You are not saying that the republicians where pushing the fair housing act are you??? to give loans to people that couldn''t qualify under the stricter guide lines. That lays in the hands of the Dems pushed by the Dems written by the dems and signed by a Dem Pres. ( Clinton)

No, I wasn't talking about anything specific beyond two points. 1). Statistics are based on surveys, and surveys directly impact what statistics are gained by both wording and the region surveyed, and I used political platforms towards abortion as an example. 2). The President has limited authority unless granted by either the Legislature or Judicial branches.
The President's role in Congress is limited to proposing a bill/direction to Congress. FDR's banking proposal is a prime example, and Congress changed most of the bill from FDR's proposal. In essence, FDR proposed a direction, and Congress does the rest until signing/vetoing by the President.

Just my impression

Quote From: getrealtime

FDR hmmm really your using him?  What did FDR do to get this country out of the depression? Did it work? or was it the war that bailed this country out and not what FDR did to stimulate that economy?
I can only use FDR as an example as far as I did. Whether, the passed bill helped the US long-term and specifically why. I am not the best candidate suitable to answer that question.
If you want my speculation considering recent affairs with banking, I'd speculate; the bill was tactical not strategic. Hence, the 700 Billion bailout and this bailout was also tactical in nature rather than strategic. President Barrack Obama is selling the next essential bailout/rescue bill as a strategic remedy rather than a tactical one.

2-cents

Dr. Phil should have challenged these women to wear a ring on their wedding finger to see their reaction as well as to provide men with an obvious sign; there will be no progress with either dating or sexually with these women. The men who do approach can be easily written off as unfavorable.
However, the men who have been giving these women gifts are seriously a bunch of wusses; they wouldn't either have the nerve to ask if a relationship will develop from their attempts to gain a favorable impression of them, and no intelligent man in this day and age will outrightly ask, "interested in having sex with me." Firstly, a wuss is too busy trying to gain affection. Secondly, men are not free to express their sexuality through either dress or expression that women have nearly free reign short of prostitution to express. Even if a man did file sexual harassment charges, he'd be the laghing stock and humilated even worse than the original infraction.
