Who's to blame?

First of all I believe the mother-in-law is manipulating and/or influencing her daughter.   Parents who are divorcing or fighting for custody are always looking for faults in each others characters.  The parents should have joint supervised custody of the children with the understanding that they both undergo psychological evaluations.  We're talking about the safety of the children here!

Losing a husband

Quote From: aja882200

I must say this sounds like the only New Season program worth watching, But

I have a question.   My husband of 47 years passed away and I can't control

my great feeling of saddness, and I cry so much, I can't see how it is possible

to ever get through this - however I am the GREAT PRETENDER and no one

would ever know how very strong my feelings of loss are.  Is there any good

place to go for counseling in the North Houston area. You are always sending

persons to very good counselors in Texas, is there one or so in the Houston

area?  Knowing my husband is in God's hands is consoling, but I

do need help - is there any?

aja,

I sympathize with you.  I'm so sorry about your pain.  I lost my husband a year and a half ago.  We were only married for 18 years so I can't imagine your pain after 47 years, but I can tell you this.  I suffered the same way you are now.  I just couldn't stop crying.  All I could think about was wanting him back.  I finally broke down and went to the doctor.  She prescribed Wellbutrin for me.  It has helped somewhat.  I still miss him very much but I'm not constantly crying anymore.  I still have a sad day from time to time but it's not as all consuming as it used to be.  They say time heals all so, I'm just trying to be patient.

I really feel for you.  Good luck and try to be patient.  You may want to seek grief counseling as well.  See your doctor.

The issue of racism

Quote From: ryeclan

It seems to me that when there is conflict with an African American and a white person that the white person gets attacked that they are racist. Could it be the other way around? Just wondering if anyone else feels this way?
I do agree to an extent.  Many times the whites are accused of being racist.  I don't understand why the race card has to be played at all.  It's just the way shallow, uneducated people behave  I'm a woman and I don't  appreciate being referred to as a bitch or a ho but what are you gonna do?  We're going to continue to have this problem until people learn how to become colorblind when it comes to race and show some respect for their fellow man (or woman).

The racism issue

I am so tired of this subject!  Only uneducated, illiterate people use the N word.  The same people that refer to woman as "Bs" or "Hs".  No matter what color you are, this language is unacceptable.  But, we will continue to have this problem until everyone becomes colorblind when it comes to race and we start showing more respect for one another no matter what your race.  Don't you think it's time to let go of old outdated modes of thought and get on with more pressing issues  like how we can help each other.

Note to Dr. Phil

Dr. Phil, I love your show and have immense respect for you but, in this instance, don't you think you're helping to keep this fire burning.  Aren't we beating a dead horse here?  There are much more important issues in this world than what name some shallow, uneducated, neanderthal happens to be calling you.  I am so tired of this subject.  How many centuries are we going to have to endure this same old worn out subject.  I'm a woman and I don't like being called the "B" word or the"H" word, but I don't dwell on it.  PLEASE!  Let it go!

Excellent point

Quote From: PennyLane78

How do they hurt? The f-word and the n-word do not inherently hurt and I would venture to say that MOST of the time, people CHOOSE to be hurt by WORDS. It's not the WORD itself, it's the intention behind it that has the potential to hurt. And even then...people choose to be hurt.

Both these words have power because we as a society decided that they have power. They are nothing more than sound waves made by our mouths that are received by our ears and translated by our brains.

These words will be used from now until eternity.  It's up to each individual to choose to either be hurt by the name callling or shrug it off and move on.  I choose to consider the source and move on.

Obama

Quote From: cornell74

I feel its very important for every one to know before the show airs that i am not raciest.

Actually my 3rd great grandfather was a black slave his name was Jake Pollard.

I feel the 'N' word has evolved into what we consider a cuss word. Back in the slavery days the word was not considered a cuss word, it was used to demoralize the black race.

Unfortunately the word is never going to go away. But what is going away is the meaning behind it.

We will never completely have a word free of discrimination, so some people will still use the word in hate crimes, but that still doesn't mean that its not loosing its meaning. The only reason it keeps its strength is because most African Americans refuse to let the past go. I admit I should not swear, swearing is bad and that includes the N word but I guess I haven't learned to control my tongue like most of the world. I just love the white Americans who say 'I would never use that word'. They are so fn full of it its not funny. Those are the people I would be weary of because they put on an act. With me what you see is what you get, I am opened book.  Yes I use it in fun toward my husband but I have no racial thoughts behind it. I have no problem with the color of skin, I have a problem with the person behind the color black or whit e. Blacks that have an attitude toward whites I have a problem with and whites that pretend they something their not I have a problem with. Let the word take on a new meaning people its OK to let  of the past.  Or will people aways fight about it because its used as a great race card, or a great conversation piece. Does anyone care that blacks are always attacking the white race about something we had nothing to do with. I'm honestly exhausted from being poked at for something I didn't do. I'm sorry my ancestors had to go through such great pain and I'm sad for him but for the blacks under 50 give me a break you were not there and I don't feel sorry for you. I can tell you this I get discriminated against by blacks everyday for being white. Little do they know I come from the same chain but I guess because of the color of my skin they assume I'm all white. If blacks want the word to stop, sorry it wont because not only do whites use it but blacks use it the most. If you want the word to go away stop making a big deal about it and it will. Its like being in school and someone kid is name calling you, once they see it dint bother you it stops. What do we tell our kids, we say ignore them and they will see they are not getting to you and they will stop. Well children here is my advice to you, IGNORE IT! Stop picking on the white race. Now for all of you people who didn't get on the show and are screaming at the computer dieing to reply back to me, post your picture and your b**** maybe you can be the next guest on The Dr. Phil Show! P.S Isn't it a black man running for president? Just checking..

Actually, I believe Obama is of a mixed race.  Aren't most of us?  People need to stop seeing the color of someones skin and try to look deeper.

And, you're right about ignoring the word.  If people like Al Sharpton AND Dr. Phil would stop bringing up the subject, it might just lose its power.

the "N" word

Quote From: cornell74

You think only uneducated illiterate people use the N word. Come on I'm far from uneducated. I'm sure you have never used it, OK  like I believe that, come on be real. I don't use it to hurt blacks, As long as I have no intention to hurt someones feelings its very OK
I was referring to using the "N" word in a negative way.  But, you know as well as I do, that word is usually taken negatively when a white person directs it to a black person.  As a rule, the "N" word is OFF LIMITS to whites.  LOL  No offense to you in particular.  And, whether you believe it or not, I don't believe I've ever used that word.  I'm an old hippie and have ALWAYS been against prejudice.

Al Sharpton

Quote From: cornell74

I too am against prejudice. I love blacks just as much as I do whites. You will hear me say that on the show. I am just so tired of the entire race issue. Most Blacks hates whites and Al Sharpton is trying to be their ring leader. I just want all blacks to know not every white person you see is racist. Yesterday I went to the video store and as I always do I locked my door with my key remote as I was walking in. A black man .that was parked next to me yelled out a laugh as if I did it because he was there. He was the passenger in the car and heard me lock the door. It really made me mad because I was judged for being racist for locking my car door. If a white person burps it racism! I don't have a problem with what color a person is. I have a problem with the attitude that is behind the color. SO what if whites don't like blacks or blacks don't like whites, lets all live our lives and move on. Deal with the problem as they come. As for Al Sharpton watch as he twists everything I said into a racist remark!!!!!!!!!

I wasn't going to watch this program, but I will in support of you and me and others who feel they are being misunderstood.

I have no doubt about Al Sharpton's intentions.  A REVEREND can't behave the way he does and claim to be doing the Lords work!  He's not promoting peace;  he's keeping hatred alive!

Kudos to you!  PEACE!
