No Excuses Workout Tips…

Quote From: ladykelleher

One thing that works for me is matching my workout clothes to my workout shoes. It sounds simple, but it makes a difference. It feels like I'm more serious about working out when I look the part. A shirt or jersey from a favorite team would also work. Sometimes you have to "fake it until you make it" like Dr. Phil says.

I think this is an excellent idea!!!  We dress the part to go to work, church, and the grocery store, so why shouldn't we dress the part to exercise??  It kinda puts you into the "ZONE".

When we put our workout clothes on, I feel we should get to work immediately, no answering the phone, throwing a load of wash over, checking our email.  We need to dress and get busy!!!

No Excuses Workout Tips…

Quote From: lisahhh

Well, after coming back here this morning and reading all the new posts I have a new attitude and will to get started on being a "Loser"! I've decided that yes, exercise needs to be fun! So since I like to dance (walking/running is soooo boring), and my house is too full of people, I am going to go into my bed room with some headphones and turn up the music and dance until I sweat! I did this a couple of years ago when I had my house to myself and it worked ...should have never stopped. So, bum foot and all I'm starting a new day and a new way of being nicer to myself! Hmmm, just thought about the food thing again...what's for breakfast? Being diabetic and a fairly picky eater really lowers the choices. I think I'll try to get by on a protein drink and see what happens! :) maybe I'll lose an ounce or two! Good Luck Everyone! I'll be checking back a couple of times a day to read all your ideas on how to get into this new life of ours! Your posts have really helped me get into this!

LISA!!!!  CLAP, CLAP, CLAP!!!!!

I LOVE it !!  You are the FIRST person on this board who has called them self a "LOSER"!!!!!  You go girl!!!!

You are a Loser, my dear!!!  Loser of weight, of Loser of negative thinking, Loser of  future health issues!!!  I am  SO PROUD of you!!!

No Excuses Workout Tips…

Quote From: bdjohnson143

OH MY GOSH.  There is no excuse, but I swear, I find one every day.  I just had my second child 3 months ago and I really do want to get back in shape, but somedays my will power is good, somedays, not so good.  I need some good tips on getting motivateD!  Also, is there any way other than surgery to remove excess skin?

BD, my dear!!!   Congratulations on your second child!!!  I imagine you are tired and at times, are at your wits end!!!  Honey, you need to take some time for YOU!!!!  The only way I know to lose that extra skin, which I am assuming is from child bearing...is to exercise and tone.  I know that isn't what you want to hear, but it is so true!!!!!  There is NO magic pill, powder or promise that will make it go away.  What I can promise you is that the older you get, the harder it will be, so procrastination is NOT your friend!!!!

Get it off now.  Everyday, you must push yourself a little harder than the day before.  In the morning do just ONE thing you don't want to do.....do ONE thing in the afternoon you don't want to do, and repeat for the evening....You have to push and show yourself who is in charge!!  Walk a mile with the kids, do a bunch of crunches, walk real fast up and down the stairs of your house.  Be constantly in motion.  Eat right, keep hydrated, meditate and what ever you do, involve your kids early with regard to exercise, nutrition and hydration.  Be a roll model for those babies!!!  Give them more than your mom gave you!!!  She did her best, as did my mom, but times have changed and with new knowledge comes new responsibility.  Lead by example so your kids won't experience the turmoil we are going through.  Be a true LOSER!!!  Lose your fears, your negative thinking and your excuses.

No Excuses Workout Tips…

Quote From: audacious210

7 years ago I bought a condo in the historic district of the city I live in. Main Street is 3 blocks long and is part residential, a park, and mostly historic buildings and shops. I love my neighborhood. I can go out a 5 am and  find neighbors walking. Oh, the police station is a block away. Walking is safe. The first committment I made to myself when I moved here is to walk...walk...walk..and I did. Yes that is past tense. I love the antique shop windows, the old guys who are always sitting outside the coffee shop at 5am, and the nice early morning air. I was doing this every morning and as many nights a week as I could. I was feeling great. I live on the 4th floor of my condo complex, so after the walk I started taking the stares just one flight...then 2 and so on. There is absolutely no negatives here. I did it every day, yet all it takes is a little break in the routine to start the excuses. After the first excuse, it gets easier. First a day...then 2. Soon I have missed a week. It has now been more than a year since I last made the walk. As I type this, I think about how silly I feel when I get in the car and drive "downtown", 2 blocks max.

Typing this has reminded me how much I really did enjoy the walks. On my way out the door.

Honey, Your awakening brings absolute tears to my eyes!!!!  You live in Utopia!!!!  It's there for you and has been for the last 7 years.....it will be there for you for many, many years.  You can ignore it, which appears to have not worked well for you, or you can embrace it, which seems to suit you VERY well.

I believe in you with my heart and soul!!!  Keep getting out there and smell the roses daily!!!  I expect great things from you...I think you get "it".

In my book, you are a true LOSER!!!  You have lost the lackadaisical attitude of yester year.  You now realize that every day matters!!!!  One lost day leads to the next and the next, until, we don't remember  why we made the decision to abandon ourselves.  Thanks for seeing the light!!!

No Excuses Workout Tips…

Quote From: seeking_peace

As i sit here and read all the things people are writing, I think why do I do this to myself.I am the only one who can change ME.And I am the ONLY ONE STANDING IN MY WAY.Today was the first time I watched the weight loss show, and I want to make a commentment, not only to myself...but to my kids.Like Patti said, we are the example.I don't want my kids to go through this.It is so hard to "start"being healthy, but if you are raised that way I'm sure it would be alot better.so thanks in advance for the support and kind words.I hpoe I can do the same for some of you.

YOU ARE REMARKABLE!!!!!!  The light bulb has gone off in your head and you get "it"  !!!  YOU are a true LOSER!!!!!  You have lost your past visions and are seeing into the future!!!!

YOU ARE RIGHT!!!  The only one who can change you is YOU!!!!  Your worst enemy is YOU!!!!  AND the only one who can get you past this is YOU!!!  YOU have tremendous power to change not only YOUR life, but the lives of your children and there is no greater privilege or responsibility to ensure that happens!!!

I'm telling you this: there is NO GREATER THING YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR CHILDREN, THAN TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR MOTHER!!!!!  ( Dr. Phil gets the credit for that one!!!!)

Baby Steps, love........Baby Steps.......slow and sure and the change will evolve and will be permanent.  Your children will grow up living a healthy life and you will be around for all the grandchildren, great grand children and great-great grand children!!!  and maybe more!!!

I can't tell you what a LOSER you are!!!  Your light bulb has gone off!!!  You get it!!!  So get busy Sister!!!

Quote From: blondie9872

Hello Everyone:

On Dr. Phil's show on Wed.  He stated there was going to be a "Loose 50 # club"  but I can only find the 100# club.

I know that every # is a challenge for each of us.

Am I missing something on the website?  I saw that someone else could not find the 50#  club either.

Good luck to each and every one of use in our new life style changes.

No Excuses Workout Tips…

Quote From: nascar_fan_48

I am 37 year old wife and mother of 2.  I work full time on my feet all 8-10 hours.  My problem is that I have plantar fascitis (not sure I spelled it right) in both my feet.  I bought the turbo jam workout and love it, but OMG, it hurts my feet so bad.  I'm in a catch 22.  If I lose weight, which I desperately want to do, my feet will feel better, but even simple walking feels like I'm going to collapse.  After working all day or night, my feet hurt so bad that all I can do is sit with them elevated and then when I try to get up, the pain is so bad it has brought me to tears.  I take tons of ibruprofen and sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't.  And now I have high blood pressure.  (just keeps gettin better huh?)  So, I have to be careful what I take for the pain as well as what I eat and drink and UGH.....  Sometimes it's just all so overwhelming that I take a sleep aid at 5 pm so I don't have to deal with it.  I k now this is wrong, but so is this pain and rutt that I'm in.  I use to walk 3 times a day, and had lost 50 lbs.  I've gained every bit of that back because the pain in so bad.  If anyone could help me with some ideas of how to get the foot pain under control, I would be eternally grateful.  If I could walk in the evenings again without wanting to cut my feet off, that would be so awesome.  I know all the right steps and I love Dr. Phil's weight loss solutions, I just don't know what to do anymore about the pain.  I have tried cortisone.  It worked once, but didn't the second time.  Thanks in advance for any help and I promise not to ever be this whiney again.

Thanks again,

Wendy

Hi Wendy!!!

Thanks for dumping your guts and acknowledging your barriers to success.  Barriers can be broken and we'll help you all we can.  I had a bout with planter fascitis many years ago and the pain was worse than childbirth!!!!  It took a lot of work and persistence on my part but I never gave up and eventually was able to beat it!

First, you have to stretch, stretch, stretch!!!!  Not only your plantar fascia, but your heel cords as well.  Especially in the morning because your muscles have tightened up overnight.  Yes, it hurts, do it anyway!!!!  No pain, No gain!!!

Second, thermal therapy.  Heat or ice.  Here's where it gets a little tricky.  What works for one person may not work for you.  Usually ice works best initially, 5 minutes on, 5 minutes off for 20 - 30 minutes a couple of times a day, taking care not to cause frostbite.  Heat usually works best for chronic pain, heating pad for 15 - 20 minutes a couple of times a day.  I say Usually, because for some people the opposite is true... You have to play with it to see what works best for you.

Third, you need to rest your feet.  Avoid walking or standing for extended periods of time.  This will be a big problem for you with your job, but where there is a will, there is a way!!!  Perhaps you could do another job function until you are healed.  A letter from your doctor ordering light duty or a temporary sedentary position would go a long way in your healing.

Fourth, get a REALLY good pair of supportive shoes, (no matter how ugly they are!!!!  And they WILL be ugly!!!) (and expensive....sorry.....) and be sure to have a really good pair of orthotics to prevent internal rotation of your feet.  Tight muscles will make your feet want to naturally pronate, the worst possible position for your feet.

Fifth, with your Dr.'s blessing, take an NSAID like aleve around the clock.  If your Doc has prescribed meds, take them EXACTLY as ordered, no skipping doses.

Lastly, (for now, I can't think of anything else....)  Get a handicap pass and use the motorized handicap buggy at the store.  I may get A LOT of flack for this, but hear me out please!!!!

You HAVE to rest your feet and keep the weight off of them!!!  You didn't say how much you weigh, but hey, you're here with us on the 100 Lb club so that's a no brainer.  If you are spending 8-10 hours a day on your feet when you HAVE to, then you need to be OFF of them when you don't have to.  If you do this for a couple of weeks, you should have the muscles stretched, the inflammation reduced and the pain in better control.

THEN you will be able to do 20 - 30 minutes of continuous exercise about 3 times a week!!!  Pre-medicate about 20 minutes before exercising, Stretch before you begin and ice when you are done.  It will take planning and it will be a chore, but once again, no pain, no gain!!!

YOU CAN DO THIS, WENDY!!!!   I have COMPLETE faith in you!!!!

LOSERS DON'T MAKE EXCUSES!!!!

Patti

PS ~~~  when my plantar fascitis went away, it was just GONE.  Woke up morning and it had completely disappeared!!!!  Had it for almost a year.   So there IS hope!!!!

No Excuses Workout Tips…

Quote From: pat_sped

Hello my fellow losers!

My name is Pat , I'm 54 and 5'3" - 194 pounds.  I have rheumatoid and osteoarthritis which affects my knees, shoulders, hands and feet.  I have used the pain as an excuse to not exercise.  I do have a treadmill which has the dr's ok as long as I'm sensible ( slow and no incline).  I'm afraid I just have not been really committed in the past, but no more excuses!!  I can visualize myself at Christmas as a loser in progress!!

Hi Pat!!!

You are such a LOSER!!!!  You LOST the need for excuses!!!  I LOVE it!!!!  Arthritis, RA and OA are bummers, but the are only barriers!!!!  You can get around ANY barrier!!!!

The great thing about a treadmill VS street walking is that when you are done, you are home!!!!  How honkin' great is that???!!!    You have NO excuse for not hopping on that puppy!!!!  What a LOSER!!!  I KNOW you can make this happen!!!  And just think how much better your joints are going to feel when you are a skinny ~ minnie!!!
