That isn't supported by the real wording. The people of Sodom (male and female) surrounded Lot's house and demanded that the two strangers come out so they could "know" them. I agree with TulseyJoe that there is no reason to assume that the intent was rape from that. Even if they really were saying they wanted to rape the messengers, that isn't homosexuality-it is an act of anger and violence.
Sodomy is the violent form of homosexuality and it means as well as having sex with animals, if I understood it right from the dictionary
I really am laughing now! My dictionary says: "any abnormal or unnatural sexual act like anal or oral copulation". I guess my husband and I are pretty abnormal-LOL. Loving homosexual AND heterosexual couples engage in those acts. Violence can't be determined by the act alone but by the intention and feeling between the people involved. Even a kiss can be done violently.

Lots of people read into a story found in the Bible what was never there in the first place. To bring preconceived ideas or another person's doctrines into one's study of the Bible is called 'Deductive Bible Study."
Sodom had a poor reputation in regard to its treatment of strangers a long time before God decided to destroy the place.
One of the reasons that people try to claim that Genesis 19 is about homosexuality is that they try to make a comparison of it with what happened in Judges 19. In that story, a heterosexual rape does take place, with the woman being raped who was the concubine of the stranger who was a guest in a man's house. But, in that town, it was not all of the people of the town, just a gang of bullies all of whom were male.
Oh, some people try to believe that the residents of Sodom knew that Lot's ovenight guests were angels. too, by saying, in words to this effect, "The Sodomites wanted to rape the angels that night."
While some homosexuals are involved in consensual violent fetish activities, very few of those who are exclusively homosexual even approve of such acts. In fact, all of the sexual fetishes that the Bible thumpers claim homosexuals do were actually invented by heterosexuals.
There is no connection with "sodomy" and the Bible in the first place. There is no "sodomy" and there are no "sodomites" in any of the Bible's original language versions. In fact, if "sodomy" (by pronunciation) were to exist in the Bible, it would mean "from Sodom."
"Sodomy" sins are actually listed in Ezekiel 16 and not a one of them has a connection with sexual activity.
