Moving

Quote From: sgarrison

My friend came and looked over my house, going through each room assessing what I have, what will fit, etc. She is telling me I won't have to get rid of nearly as much as I had thought. She has some very good ideas on how to arrange, etc. I was really thinking I could not take my grandparents large round oak table with me but she seems to think it will work either in kitchen or possibly in living room right outside the doorway into the kitchen. Make a small eating nook. I only have two dining chairs so that will work. It is just so old and I had redone and polyurethane put on top so hate to see it go. Two leaves for it to enlarge should I ever need them. I am encouraged now. We went to the Chinese buffet for lunch and I did very well with my food too.

Diane, I do have Murphy's Oil Soap, had not thought of that. Will try it. Will probably have a chance to try lots of things before they are clean. I may use some of those wall paper samples in my kitchen cabinets too. I hate shelf paper and it is such a pain to install. This will work and who looks inside your cabinets anyway. I can leave a little border hanging off to cover the places the trim has come off the shelves too.

Such good posts today and I enjoyed reading each of them. Laineybea, so sorry about your poor air quality. We have the humidity but don't seem to have the pollution you mention where we are warned to stay in. I have breathing problems and can tell when storms are on their way as I can't catch my breath either. My wonderful A/C filters are too small for the apartment unit too. I can't afford to buy new one for there so will just have to see if I can find some good commercial filters that won't break the bank to keep in stock. Will need a new one each month.

I am beginning to formulate my packing plan and hope to start packing some myself this coming week. Just don't know which room to start in. LOL:) Any suggestions??

Hugs to all, Sandra

Sandra-the easiest way to pack is to start with what you don't use every day. That means the top shelves of your cabinets-whether in the kitchen or bathroom. I cleaned out closets of everything that I wasn't going to take, and that meant i didn't have to decide when the time for moving came. It's amazing how much "junk" we keep. I have a sister who was a military wife, and she is a master at packing. Wrap dishes in towels or paper towels instead of newspapers. Then they stay clean and don't have to be rewashed.  Good luck-it's always fun to have new corners to dust-or that's what someone said to me. Personally, no dusting is fun!

As to air filters, there are some fine 3 month filters, as well as renewable by washing that aren't too expensive. We had the expensive one put in when we had our new a.c. heat pump system. It does make a difference on the amount of dust. They service it once a year-

Have fun, deciding what to keep and what to throw is a challenge.   Laineybea

Tuesday Morning

ActuaLly, it is late afternoon-but that's what came up-

RUTH T-the last sentence of the first line of your latest message needs work-it sounds like you are defeating yourself!  so the strewss has caused a minor setback-pick yourself up, girl, and get back on track! You have a lot of stress, but yes, you can do this!

DIANE-Think going to your daughter is most likely the reason you were bowing out of reunion. And if I had babies coming, you can bet  I would want to be there.

I had my Well Woman check-up today-all good results. Sugar is down, blood pressure is A-ok, and bones have increased in density to normal! Will continue with the Fosamax so they don't deteriorate again----but no signs of abnormalities in the spine. Good News! My weight was up by 3 pounds from my last visit-and she thinks it is the stress I am under, with DH and also both DD's. She offered me a sleeping pill-but that is the last thing I need. When I hit that bed, I'm gone-and sleeping pretty soundly, also. I am recognizing how easy it would be for me to revert-so putting the brakes on now. Laineybea

Saturday Morning

This morning I have watched the news about Hurricane Rita. I am praying for all those who are affected-some for the second time in a month.

JOYCE-Glad to see that things have eased for you and that you are taking care of you, as Carole says.   I started rereading the book also, but like you, don't need to delve once more into things I have put to rest. I need the positive reinforcement of some of his affirming quotes.

Yesterday we went shopping for the first time in many months-and happy to report that all seems well with DH. No urologist appt. for three weeks----and he can drive himself. Yeah!

My weight is stable-fluctuating up and down a pound. This week has not been conducive to jogging-even in the a.c. it is not the best breathing.

Bought a new, inexpensive set of dishes yesterday. They are all white, with embossed Palm trees on them. Very tropical-and will work well with my print tablecloths. I love color, and the regular everyday dishes are Corelle Summer  Blush-pansies around the edge. They are not making that pattern anymore, but I have a large supply. They don't go well with some of my tablecovers.

No news on the kid front-still waiting for decision from youngest DD regarding their proposed move to Florida.   Will cross that bridge when it happens.    Laineybea

Weigh In Time

I have been quiet for a couple of weeks-thinking about things and trying to decide whether to keep posting. Some of the stress is gone-DH is much better, and it appears that we won't have  children staying with us-at least not in the near future. We did cancel all plans for a trip north this fall-but hope to get the sod laid within the month.

My weight is down another pound, after spiking up two pounds, so I am now at  189/173/155. As I wrote to Diane, I don't see me cutting back on food much more, or devoting more time to exercise, so I feel that the weight is probably going to hang in there and not go lower in a hurry. I have made so many positive changes, and basically follow the eating plan as outlined,

Happy to read all the posts from so many. For a while it seemed like this board was not going to last. It is a whole different format, and not as user friendly as the old one.

OBIE-A happy belated birthday to you!  May you enjoy the whole month!

RUTH T-Perhaps this is the turnaround you have been praying for(along with the rest of us!)

DIANE- Hope that you make a decision soon as to when and how you are going to be with the new arrivals-maybe after they arrive?

JOYCE-Enjoy your gorgeous pictures all the time.

    Take care everyone-Laineybea

Friday

I hope all you hardy N.E.' rs will dry out soon-when it is damp up there another word comes to mind-miserable!

I am having some problems with recurring vertigo, so will have an MRI of the brain later this afternon. Think it is just inner ear problem, but a little nervous---what if they don't find any brain in the skull???????

Have been laying low this week, literally, and am on antivert to take away the dizzies. Haven't done any exercise, and dog keeps eyeing me for a walk I don't dare take.

The gulf is quiet right now-we still have until November 30 for the hurricane season. I hope that it is finished this year----there are so many natural disasters now that people can't contirbute to them all.  It is a sad state of affairs.  Now it is the northeast----hope you all are well and doing what you can.   Laineybea

MAC

Dear Mac-did we all miss your birthday on the 12th? From long ago, I find you listed for October 12th. Please accept my belated greetings --may you have many more wonderful years.

Today  is Monday, and weight is back up a couple of pounds-hovering between 173 and 175. Haven't been doing anything but navigating the floor since Thursday, so understand the up side of that.

I am nervous about my appointment in a half hour-had the MRI late Friday. It wasn't too bad a test. Had them cover my eyes so I didn't know how close it was, and had earphones with soft rock. It was a bit noisy, but tolerable. Of course, I took 2 Valium before I went, along with the Antivert-so wasn't nervous at all!

Hoping that all who are not feeling well will improve-they are now talking about another tropical wave named Wilma that will be a hurricane in the Caribbean-have to keep the tension level up, you know.   Won't even think about that for now-------Laineybea

Okay

Got the good news that there was no stroke, tumor, or other ugly thing in my brain. It shows signs of aging(sigh) but that is okay. The problem is most likely inner ear, and will stay on the Antivert for a couple of weeks if needed. If situation isn't better by then , will see an ENT for possible balance therapy(whatever that might be). Anyway, had to share the good news-now back with the program. Unfortunately, at the present time my IE consists of crossing the room without bumping into anything!    Laineybea

Monday Memo

Good Day everyone! Greetings from the Hurricane corner of the world! Wilma passed south of us this morning, and we have multiple branches down in our yard, but no real damage. The banana tree is still upright, and it doesn't seem that we lost fruit to the wind.

I am not happy to report a marked weight gain this week. The last two weeks of laying around enjoying being dizzy has added 5 pounds to my scale. It will take forever to get it off, but it truly shows the value of IE. Still not stable enough to jog, but today I have been catching up on laundry, ironing, and even cleaned and scrubbed out refrigerator. Feels good to be moving without the vertigo.  If it isn't completely gone by the end of the week, I have promised to go to an ENT for further help. But I  am praying that it will go and not come back.

Our neighborhood had its annual yard sale this weekend-but due to storm forecast they are also planning it for next-so most didn't do it this weekend. I was able to make a trade with a neighbor who's church makes afghans for Africa and sweaters for Bosnia. She had some baby-colors of yarn, and I had a bag of beautiful stuff for her projects. So we traded, and I shouldn't need to purchase any yarn through at least next spring.

I hope that all who have posted the last couple of days will continue to do so--it seems that the board falls apart after the Monday weigh-ins-

Hope all who were feeling lousy are on the mend-and ready to shake this booty by Christmas. Laineybea

Middle of the Week

Hi Everyone-if I don't mention you by name, it isn't intended to slight you-just my blonde highlights coming out!

Joyce-To me you have always been a beautiful person-long before any pictures showed up. The inner spirit shows through-you are planning to bring it closer to the surface!

Diane-We managed to send  the winds and rain your way-aren't you glad it wasn't snow?   We are cold down here-went from summer straight to winter-long pants and shirts, even a jacket to walk the dog. Only got up to 60 today-and was low 50's last night. Everyone is smiling with the fact that since the gulf temps. are now below 75 our chances of another hurricane are almost 0. Yeah!

I broke down an made an appointment with an ENT doctor. Woman does not joyfully live on antivert-makes me sluggish and the weight goes up and up-not a good thing at all!

We went to the dogs last night-literally. The dogtrack opened this week, and it is very close to us. I had never seen dog races, and their fantastic buffet was half price. I wa careful in my choices, but know that I ate more food than normally. The shrimp were soooo good, as was the prime rib. Oh, well, another day . DH is doing the prep for his colonoscopy tomorrow, so I don't need to do anything for dinner. I volunteered at the hospital today-first time I have driven in over two weeks. It went well, as long as I don't do any sudden turns of the head without making the body turn too. Will find out what might be causing this problem ,and more importantly , how to eliminate it.

I still cannot jog-the up and down motion is  little too much, but am walking and trying to get a life back. My clothes have absolutely no wiggle room left-and I will not buy bigger clothes again-and going naked is discouraged(and also probably against the law) but it would be good for a few laughs! Take care, all of you-wish we could all meet-think what a wonderful gabfest that would be! We would have to do a weekend-an afternoon wouldn't be long enough,.    Laineybea

Thursday

GIN-Happy Birthday-I hope you are still reading the board-please tell us all  is well in your thin world. Celebrate at least for another year!

CONNIE-Is this what you are thinking of?

Red skies at night, sailor's delight

Red skies in the morning, sailors take warning.

All is well with DH-and he's glad that test is over!  The Pastoral Care luncheon was delightful-so many are vegetarians that the menu was geared towards that. A wonderful salad of spinach, walnuts, strawberries, and onions with a vinegarette dressing-garnished with feta chees. Yummy! Also had rice pilaf and small chicken medallions with mushroom centers.

I am watching and groaning as the scale does not want to return to its previous numbers. I am working on it, but so far it isn't budging. I will be glad to get back to more IE as soon as I can.

Head is tipsy tonight, so have a good evening everyone-going to the recliner. Laineybea
