General Advice

Quote From: vixsen927

This may seem silly but I have a six year old little boy who has never had a blankie or used passies when he was a baby. He has always been a confident little boy but now out of nowhere he has started blowing on the back of his hand. I dont know if he is doing this consiously or not I have asked him why he does this and he just tells me he doesnt know. It doesnt seem like something major but Im not sure how conserned to be about this. He doesnt make an issue out of it like he's trying to get attention its subtle when he does it. It to me seems like a strange habbit to pick up. If I try and make an issue out of it and try and make him stop Im afraid that he will start doing it for attention. So I guess Im a bit confused as to what to think or do. Anyone with any ideas Id be really glad to hear them.
I am not sure what to offer you for advice, but I wanted to share this with you.  This little boy I used to babysit, he was 5 used to blow on his fingers.  I am not sure if he still does or why, but I wanted to share that with you as it is quite simalar.

Bedwetting (almost 9yrs old)

My son will be 9 in October.  He wets the bed everynight.  Occassionally when he sleeps over at friends houses, he does not wet the bed.

I have tried stopping drinks after 6pm.  Getting him to go pee before he goes to bed.  I have also woke him up to go pee when I go to bed (around 11pm) He has either allready peed or still wakes up wet.  I have even gone as far as the medication prescribed by doctors.  That didn't work either.

Every night he wears pullups to bed.  (I have to buy the Good nights as the sizing is bigger, and they are more expensive) This morning he went right through his pull up and we are washing his sheets.

I am so tired of washing clothes and smelling pee in his room.  I do not scold him for this, but I have started making him do his own wash and making up his bed when it is all clean.

My 5 yr old thinks that he needs to wear pull ups as well.  I tell him he doesn't need to but he says his brother does so he wants to. ANd occassionally he will wet the bed as well.

I occasionally wet the bed when I was young, (as an older child, amybe up til I was 11) But not every night.  This is driving me crazy!  Sometimes we don't have any pull ups, as I refuse to by them at $20 a bag, (you know 2 days before pay day). I will not buy one of those electrice shockers, that shocks them when they pee in thier sleep........

Basically I don't think any one can help us, he will just have to grow out of it, but I needed to vent....Thanks for listening!

Trying to Quit Smoking?

WHen I quit, a few days before, I was just smoking the end of my husbands, he wastes so much so I get the last three quarters.  I found that really helped me, and that was on the Sat and Sun and then on Monday I quit cold turkey.  But I think you are smart to cut down at the start.

You do need to set a quit date.  A few people on the board have meters.  (can you show her what a meter looks like, I don't have mine going)  (Whyquit.com) The site with all the pcitures and Noami's story is really good for the brain too.  I know it makes me think twice after seeing those pictures.

Everyone has different ways of quitting smoking, and you just have to figure out what works best for you.

I think if I sit on this baord and talk enough I will talk myself into quiting agianl.  I know I will.  I am planning the week after the September long weekend.  (we are going on holidays so I want to do it after that)

Anyhow, time for breakfast!

Yes you need to make a living but don't forget to make a LIFE

Hi Jetta, sorry to hear your husband lost his main job.  It is hard (we have been their) Just remember a door closing is another door opening.  You hubby can take the time to get it back together.  A person needs to be happy.  Anyhow, I was just reading some posts, and thought I would say hi,  it has been a while!

take care, and prayers be with you and your family.

Trying to Quit Smoking?

Mairo, you have got me interested....what in the world are you doing that you paid your house off in 5 years???  Good for you!  That is great!  What part of Europe did you come from?

Shelly I am glad you are trying again.  Mario is right that you just have to find something different to do with your time.  My dad has been quit for years and he still gets a craving once in awhile too.  I don't imagine it is a strong craving, probably more of a thought.  lately when I get a craving, I just say to myself I don't need one now, I can have one later.  And that is how I quit the first time too, just kept saying I am not going to have one now, but if I really want I can have one later.  And that prolonged the smoke, and then I would say, oh wow I have gone 4 hours with out one I can go longer, and when it was 8 hours, I thought, holy smokes that is a long time, why ruin it, I can go longer, same after a day.  Keep your self really busy.  I am going to be painting when the kids go back to school.  Also going to the gym.  I have to keep myself busy.  Go for walks, go to the grocery store and don't bring them with you.

Leasap, thanks for resonding the other day to my car parking spot.  I dont' like to cause conflict, so I don't think I would honk until they moved.  LOL  I do think the next time, I will say something again.  It really drives me bonkers!

Deb, I wish you all the best today.

I have lots of stuff to do today......chow for now......Tray
