12/13 Moms' Biggest Mistakes

Quote From: valleb

Doesn't shower, can't remember last time went on a date with hubby?  Don't these women have a clue?  When their husbands cheat on them with someone from the office, etc (who does take care of herself), will these mom's also be as clueless as to why?  I have seen sooo many women take care of themselves right up until the kids come, then it's mommy jeans or sweats, no showers, no hubby time, no time for sex, etc.  Part of being a good mom is being a good wife and taking care of your marriage!   I guarantee, if you aren't sleeping with your husband someone else is!  It takes 10 minutes to shower, apply a little makeup and get dressed!  Too tired for sex??  It is worth it to hire a babysitter for a few hours to take a nap, get ready and go out with your hubby.   This is much, much cheaper than becoming a single mom!!

No

Men cheat because A) They can B) Because they're selfish or have impulse control problems and C) Because there are women willing to put up with their lack of integrity. The reasons they give are excuses for their own poor behavior: an attempt to place the blame on someone other than themselves. Why would anyone want to stay with a LOSER that behaves like this?

That doesn't excuse wives from taking care of themselves while taking care of kids, it just requires some adaptations to established routines. It is easy to fall into lazy patterns when you're getting very little sleep but wives have to make a conscious effort to make sure they're taking care of themselves as well as others

12/13 Moms' Biggest Mistakes

Quote From: reb299

Doesn't this tell you anything? Get a job or two! If you have a job, try getting a better, more affording job!

I don't think you fully understand the difficulties of single moms, particularly those single moms with special needs children and a deadbeat dad. Employment opportunities are limited for single moms due to the extra time off to deal with your kids as a single parent. Alot of employers don't want the hassle and will do their best to steer clear of hiring single parents. Yes, that's illegal in the US but it continues to happen. Lawsuits are costly and most single parents don't have resources to pursue a lawsuit. It's a catch22 businesses are willling to risk.

Raising a child that doesn't have special needs is enough work in itself, multiple that workload by 10 if you have a special needs child, maybe more if they're profoundly challenged.

Recommendation

Just kind of an aside:

The spoiled girl requested a Sony Vaio on her Xmas list, unless you have $300 or $400 you just want to piddle away buy a Toshiba instead. I just replaced a 5 year Sony with a Toshiba for the simple reason they both had exactly the same capabilities but a difference in price of $400.

The Sony was a great little machine but paying $400 for the name was ridiculous.

Just a bit of advice for the holidays :-)

It's expensive enough without paying more than you need to....

Nancy is in Canada

Quote From: valleb

YES IT IS ILLEGAL TO ASK IF SOMEONE HAS CHILDREN IN AN INTERVIEW.  Check your facts please.  It is also illegal to ask about marital status, sexual orientation, whether they plan on getting pregnant even.  I stand by my post.  Please check out the Federal Law.

Any yes, there is a difference between comfort and dirt.  The woman on the show stated she did not shower.  That was what the posts were addressing.  You can look (and smell) decent while in sweats or even, god forbid, mommy pants, the posts are addressing the non-showering, non-hair combing, stained shirt set.  No body, man or woman wants a mate who doesn't shower or groom themselves.  This is pretty basic.

The Civil Rights Act of 1964, which is the basis for the EEO, is a US law not Canadian:  Nancy lives in Canada so US law does not pertain to her situation.

I'm sitting here looking at the Human Resource Management textbook so if you want to argue this: argue with Mathis and Jackson 10th edition :-/

Why are we arguing about this? Laws are broken every day and there are still neanderthals in business that ask these questions either thru ignorance or arrogance.

If one of our Canadian posters would be so kind to inform us of discrimination laws in Canada, I for one would appreciative of the info :-)

I wasn't arguing this with anyone.  I was stating Federal Law.  Since the Dr. Phil show is located in California, which is in the good ole USA, maybe the poster should take THAT into considersation.  I also assume laws are different in China too!!!   When something is posted I believe most people use the basis of the USA, the the show is filmed.  As Charles Barkley sez...I may be wrong, But I doubt it.

As to your statement "I'm sitting here looking at the Human Resource Management textbook so if you want to argue this: argue with Mathis and Jackson 10th edition :-/ "   Idon't need to argue the point as I was right to begin with ; )   Nuff said

The original petty flip post (not by you) was directed at Nancy who lives in Canada so what's illegal in the US has no bearing on her situation.

Yes it is illegal, and it's illegal because there are still cretins in business that discriminate anyway. If we lived in a world where people behaved in a fair, rational, reasonable manner, we wouldn't need laws to force them to behave in an appropriate fashion. Yes you can sue them but you have to have the resources to hire an attorney that will pursue your case. How many lawyers do you know that will do anything without money up front? Won't happen and that's why it continues some businesses continue the practice. We can make all the laws we want but we still have to deal with human beings that try to get around them.

OK that's enough of that stuff and I believe I'll use the HR book for fire fuel after finals tomorrow :-)
