Brenda ....

Quote From: blgspc

My cousin's so excited but has some anxiety about flying. She's a first-time flyer. I intend to help her, of course. I can easily distract her with humor.

I, now have so many papers in my Hollywood folder I'm afraid that I won't be able to find what I need! I've even written myself notes!

Brenda

Before you go, staple the like notes together and then use a large post-it to remind you what that bundle is about.

And I know she's excited!!!  a dream trip like this ...

tips??

Quote From: blgspc

I wanted to offer a THANK YOU to both you and Linda!

I appreciate your suggestions and tips! Im using them and all of them have been an enormous aide! Its crunch time. Three weeks from tonight my cousin P**** and I will be in Hollywood!

So, ANY tips you have will be greatly prized!

When I read your tip about organizing my folder, I grabbed some Post-It notes, some paper clips and organized everything!

Thanks,

Brenda

Okay ... don't forget to bring all sorts of lunch & gallon size baggies.  Get yourself a couple of those packets that let you wash your hands ... always keep them in the purse!

Bring tennis shoes if you plan on doing any walking ...  don't forget the camera!  If you have a digital that's even better!  Then you can make a memory book for both of you.

And remember, Murphy's Law ..  s**t happens .. so look at your trip as one BIG ADVENTURE .. if plans don't go right, so what!!  You'll remember the trip even more!

Visitor's center?

Quote From: blgspc

I did actually call CBS today and they DO just hold cell phones if you bring them!!!

And, to my great surprise my sweet but rather timid cousin P****, when I was discussing transportation options with her today and mentioned the Metro, she said Well, when we took the seniors to Washington we used their Metro system to travel all over the place! I'm sure that we could figure it out!"

Im going to look for a map as soon as we land in LA. I just havent been successful in locating a full folding paper map of all of the attractions AND Metro connections, online.

I was advised by the hotel- which is right next to the Hollywood and Highlands Center- that the Metro station was, almost next door! The hotel personnel have been very helpful, as well!

Thanks, Again!

Brenda

strange ... I would think LA's visitor center would have that kind of information available online.  I know that's how I found the DC metro one.

I'm glad your sister is strong!

Quote From: blgspc

It has been bitterly cold here! I know that the rest of the country has been much, much worse. It was supposed to get down into the single digits night before last. It got down to about 14 degrees. Coastal South Carolina is almost subtropical, so this is quite different for us. I mean, it does get cold enough to snow and/or sleet about every other year but single digits?!?!?

Oh, and my 16 year old niece is now in Washington for the inauguration, with some other students chosen from her school in San Francisco! My twin sister had been trying to explain to my niece what the bitter artic weather front in Washington will feel like. They gave my niece a list of must-have-items to buy. When she returned from shopping my niece, instead had chosen some thin cotton items, including cotton ankle socks! My twin and her husband immediately took the girl, right back out to the Mall and under my nieces strongest protests they purchased thick cotton thermal long johns and other clothing that she could layer with and my niece was fuming! In choosing her gown, my niece was looking for something backless with spaghetti straps! To which BOTH of her parents said, Oh, NO! My, my, my, they have been having such a struggle with our 16 year old girl!!!

In the meantime, my sister has called me four times in the last 48 hours, in tears, outlining the nine easiest ways anti-American activist could end her daughters life while shes in Washington. (My twin sister cant be left alone with her brain, either.) I am praying for safety for everyone and trying to support my sister who has become a fretful little Mama. Ive been reminding her of the beefed-up security surrounding this entire history-making event. Im still going to be praying for safety for ALL throughout this time.

Oh, my sister DID say something that stunned me, during one of our more than hour-long talks. She said, I really am sorry that you wont get a chance to see a taping of the Dr. Phil Show. There wasnt a trace of cynicism in her comment, either. She was being quite genuine. (How sweet!, I thought!) I responded with, So, does that mean that you would join me, in the future, for a taping of his show?!? There was a VERY LONG silence then she said, Uh-um.Why dont we continue this talk right after you and I return from ice-skating in HELL. Honestly, that GIRL!!!

Brenda

Your niece is going to be thanking her lucky stars that her parents made her buy those warm items ... I have free "stay at" places in DC I can go .. but we were just coming out of what DC was receiving and figured ... it was going to be nice and toasty sitting at home in front of the TV ... in fact, I was in exercise class when he swore in. But I do plan on getting his speech from the whitehouse.gov website.

Hey, at least she's warmed up to you at least sitting in the audience.  hee hee

Hi Staci ...

Quote From: stajames

Hello, my name is staci and I am 21 years old. I am currently trying to lose weight but have a problem. I do exercise everyday and drink plenty of water but we don't have the money to buy expencive diet food and the food that my family usually brings in is not very healthy. Does anyone have any tips to what I should do becasue food is my weekness. Please help!
Have you begun to read Dr. Phil's WEIGHT LOSS SOLUTIONS?  it's a fabulous book that shows you all the aspects of living a healthy life style.

And it's going to be hard to not turn to the same foods that everyone else around you is eating .. but it can be done.

For me, I found the secret was to focus on my finances and learning to shop wisely.  I found that I can purchase the healthier foods cheaply as long as I'm willing to discover what the stores here in Cleveland have on their rotating sales.  I also figured out foods that I could turn to when I didn't have time to fix me a real meal.  Hot Pockets are great for that .. I always get the lower calories one. They help me to get something to eat fast and keep me under 400 calories so I can have something else to eat with them or later.

I finally understand ....

I've spent the past 4-5 years figuring out what I'm experiencing.  I know that it seems like I'm focusing long and hard on something I should let go; however, it's a place I come to that is so painful that it brings me such levels of depression.  It was Judith Beck's book THE BECK DIET SOLUTION that finally helped me understand how I could be in OBSERVER MODE ... very strange place to be.  Martha Beck introduced me to it; however, it was Judith's exercise on dealing with cravings that I finally realized that I'm very in touched with me.

It was so strange ... I was hearing ME say ... no I don't want to have a snack .. and yet, I got off the couch and walked into the kitchen and made me toast ... and ME was just along for the ride.  I've spent months working this out ... taking all the knowledge I've learned and worked thru it.

And now, I know what it is and that it's not a bad place to be. I'm making plans on handling myself better and not allow myself to get lost any more. It's so awesome.

Still unable to post to the new website ... wonder why?
