Pedometer

Before I went to walk I decided to check it out.  Reset it and took 20 steps - it only recorded 16 of them.  Guess I have been walking more than I thought.

Forgot to post distance.  16 laps = 1 mile and I did 32 laps (2 miles)

I have made a commitment to walk 2 miles each day - first, instead of after whatever else I do.  I think it is going to take this to make any progress.

You might also want to watch pepper.  My Dad had this problem and would get anemic.  They never could find the cause, but advised him to avoid it because it doesn't digest and just goes through the whole system.  Can cause bleeding.  This was a condition he had to watch for a number of years, and had to have 3 transfusions over about a 15 or 20 yr period.  I could tell if he was anemic because I could see the red lines appearing in his ears and face against white "background".  He would go in for the transfusion and be normal appearing again.  You have to watch because they put pepper in lots of things we aren't aware of.  When he was in the hospital they would give him Mrs. Dash seasoning, and it appeared there wasn't any pepper, but in the list of ingredients it said "light pepper."  I had to watch them like a hawk, because they would sent it up on his tray, even though we had requested them not to.

This may not be your problem, but maybe something to think about.

HI DIANE

Hope this finds you feeling well.  We do miss hearing from you and hope your computer woes are over soon.

This has been a long day, but very productive one.  I have been to store and have EVERYTHING I need for meals and snacks (planned - on program), so feel I am ready to make more progress.  If I don't have my fruits and veggies, I have problems that only getting them in the house will solve.

Take care,

Over 60 WLC Community

Weight stayed the same:  156

Had doctor appt. then meeting, stopped by Office Max for some more boxes - they were on sale - 10 @ 11.?? - buy 2 get 1 pkg FREE.  Makes them a little more reasonable, and can use nice clean boxes and those that I empty, will donate to ds & ddil after they move to sort and store things neatly.

Emptied 2 bags of trash and have 2 file drawers filled  (new file folders - info sorted from WOB effort)

Ds called this afternoon and needed my assistance, then took me to dinner at Applebees (shared "Take Two" Steak, Steak, potatoes, veggies - 2 plates) then remembered I had another meeting tonight, so came home and filled some boxes until I also decided that I could get i.e. in before meeting.  Went to Center and walked 2 miles - went to meeting, came back and went to Center again and walked additional 1 mile - Total i.e. 3 miles - 50 min.

Have had yogurt (9:45 p.m.) and don't think I'll be up much longer.  Bed is going to feel really good!

Plan to do i.e. earlier tomorrow.

Greetings

Haven't been here much this week but have been concentrating on WOBing and i.e.  Have set a goal to do at least 2 miles each day and try to increase if possible.  So far since 8/1 have walked 3 miles MTW, 3 1/2 miles Th. and 4 miles Fri.  Think I have been placing limits on my abilities because of my physical condition, but believe that 2 miles maintains, less than 2 I gain, and it will take over 2 miles per day to lose.  How much more, is to be determined, but each day it gets easier.  My time "per mile" is increasing (not particularly proud of this increase - lol) but while I may not be burning up the track, I am staying the course.  Food choices have been good, and as long as I keep going to the store to keep stocked up, doesn't seem to be a problem.  Will keep monitoring this because it's when I think I have it all "figured out" that I find there is something I have missed.

Hope everyone is have success with your efforts.  As long as we keep moving forward and learning, we can accomplish amazing things.  Keep your goals before you and keep reading the ULWS Book.

Quote From: rthwlks

My weight has not gone up or down this last week, the problem is that I intended for it to go down!  I do not understand why I sometimes can control my appitite and sometimes not.  I have given a lot of thought to it, and I still cannot understand it.  I know that stress can cause me to gain, but sometimes even without stress I cannot control myself.  I have not been under any particular stress lately.

When I started this program I went straight down until reached my goal.  Well except for Thanksgiving, Christmas, my birthday, and my husbands birthday, and even then I did not gain just stayed the same.  I wish I knew why this staying the same is so much harder than losing was.  Has anyone got any ideas?

I guess I have been so busy walking this week that I forgot to write as much as I intended.  I have a few ideas on this subject, since I also regained some after my initial 30 lb loss.  I'm still trying to reach that intermediate weight loss, and then another 10 also.

As I remember, you went on vacation.  Stress doesn't always have to be negative.  Fun, happy events can also produce stress on our body.  Traveling produces stress.  I think it all gets back to the balance.  Having a balanced lifestyle.  That seems to be our biggest challenge.  You would think that with all the work saving devices on the market that we would have more time to live that balanced lifestyle.

Hope you are experiencing improvement in your efforts this week.

Plan B

Plan A - Walking will have to be put on hold.  I was checking my feet before going over to Center to walk this afternoon and discovered a blister on my big toe on my right foot.  Will have to keep off it until it gets better, and may have to see doctor on Monday.  It's nothing to mess around with.  Maybe I can walk on my hands.

And I was having so much fun walking.

Plan B

Well, dh & I went out to garage and stationary bicycle was just inside the back garage door (you can drive through from front thru to back yard - when it isn't full lol) and only had to move one box to get it out.  It is set up in the bedroom for now and tonight I did 2 miles in 7 min.  - not very fast, but all I could stand for the first time.  We went to Walmart and bought a gel cushion, but it isn't actually big enough to fit (this seat is larger than the ones they make now) and I bought the largest one they had.  Somewhere I have a slip over cushion for a bar stool packed away, and that might work too.  Anyway, I am using the gel cover for now.  It wasn't all that expensive, and it does stay on, it just doesn't fit over the back side of the seat all the way.  Dh wouldn't let me get a horn or one of those cute seat covers that red lights flash across the back side.  Things sure have changed since I used to ride my bicycle to school over 50 yrs. ago.

I will add some of my DVD's of Yoga and Pilates, along with a Resistance Cord workout kit to round out my i.e. until I can return to walking.

Well, I'm off to take a nice warm shower before bed.  My back is bothering me (may be the weather) and I have been wearing my lifting belt brace to give me some support.  Am having trouble bending even enough to touch my knees.  May have to get to the D.C. tomorrow if it isn't better.

Have a good night.

Weight stayed the same, but measurements have changed.  Lost 2 inches around waist and hips.

39/34/42

175/156/140

Inches lost were probably due to extreme walking last week until blister on foot.  It is much better, but yesterday started having back trouble again, and so things have come to a halt on i.e. front.  Just a few minutes ago my back started feeling better, so it may be weather related after all.  If not, will go to D.C. tomorrow.  It's always a toss-up when back trouble flares up, is it something I did or weather.  Since hands were hurting also, am leaning toward weather.  But it could be both.  Barometer shows strong indication, also.

Dh and I went out to garage today, and I'm trying to clear space out to put boxes filled with papers to be sorted and filed out there.  Dh did the lifting, etc.  I managed to sweep, but "bender" wasn't bending at all at that time.  We threw out 3 bags of stuff and rearranged things.  Think I can probably clear out about 1/4 of garage to stack boxes from house, and then retrieve some each day to sort through.  I have 2 4-drawer file cabinets out there, and plan to file some things out there, pertaining to garden club activities, etc.  I have been involved with planning programs for the past few years, and some archive material helps to get ideas.  As I participate in daily activities it seems like I am constantly gathering info that if I find it interesting, possibly GC members will also.  Then when planning for next year's programs, I have some ideas, names, etc.   They can stay out in garage until needed, and will put in folders with color coding so can pitch outdated material.

Will be happy to get back to i.e. as soon as possible.  Was just beginning to enjoy the daily activity, and feeling much stronger, and getting benefits (as shown above in change in measurements.)

Have a great day.
