Maybe back at the hospital today

Not for me. My 3 yr old son is running a VERY high temp. Nothing we have done has helped. He's at the Dr. office right now. Also he hasn't been going to the bathroom all day. Have been pumping him with fluids with absolutely NO results what so ever. Getting really scared and hope the Dr. can do something. Will let you all know something just as soon as I do. As for me, the tests they did all came back normal. Even the hormone tests! They did a 48 hr. video EEG on me, which showed NO SIGNS of seizures, so back to square one on a lot of medical issues I have. But right now, my main concern is the baby.

Thyroid

Quote From: labelfree

My Mom has had thyroid problems her whole life....It is NOT silly at all...Do you know that your Throid runs "YOUR ship?  If it is out of whack your whole system is?  This my dear is no small matter?  Actually a long time a go my Mom had a tumor on her para Thyroid...she had that removed...Now I just took her to get a cat scan and she has a goiter and it is growing getting longer and wider and she has to have that removed ...This is serious and has to go down to Penn in Phildelphia..Even has to possibly have a chest team on Stand by....They might have to crack her chest open if they cant get it threw her neck....In the waiting room they do have Internet there so its really good.  Me and my sister will stay with her the night before  they have a hotel connected to Hospital  My Mom and me and My sister are nerous about this....Me and My sister will stay with her until she is dis charged..

I understand your disorder and your stuggle....Stay on it!  IT IS NOT SILLY  YOU are not silly  THIS IS YOUR LIFE!

Had my thyroid removed about 4 yrs ago. I had 17 separate nodules on it that the Dr. said could turn cancerous. Wasn't the Dr.'s idea to remove it, it was MINE. Had to fight to get it removed too. They just wanted to keep doing biopsies on it. I got really tired of having to go in every 6 mo. and getting them done and then being scared to death that they were going to say Cancer. So I fought with them for 3 mo. Finally won! The weight, acne, and a few other problems since then are hard, BUT DEFINITELY WORTH IT! Rather have to fight that than cancer. NOT MEANING TO OFFEND ANYONE! Sorry if I have.

Good luck with your Mom and hope all turns out for the best for her.

No you wont die

Quote From: labelfree

She has to have her neck cut side to side again.  She has what is called a goiter and its blocking her air weigh so much its almost the size of a pinhole that is what my sister said as she went with her to UNIVERSITY of Penn @ Phila  Her Surg is for Nov 10th we will be staying at hotel the night before with her reoom is already booked I am scared to death for her!

I thought we needed our thyroid to live?  No offense but how do you do it?  Please let me know...Thank you Misty...

The thyroid is vital, but you wont die without it. They give you synthetic thyroid hormones to take the place of the real one. While it does take a while to get everything straightened out, believe me, it's worth it. and with the type of goiter your Mom has it might be better if she has the whole thing removed. Goiters can grow back and get larger as they do. The surgery is major and the healing time can be long, but it's better in the long run. Let your Mom know that I'm sending her healing vibes.

They can

Quote From: labelfree

Do you think that when I get older I couldd have them?  I mean do goiter's run in families?  It hasnt been just until resently has my MOM shared "information" really with me about anything...Like anything I should really know about truly!
But that doesn't necessarily mean that you will get them. Thyroid disease runs in my family. So yes it can and is hereditary. But it can also be caused by environmental factors as well. If you are really worried about it, have a thyroid panel run. It can answer alot of your questions. Also talk to your doctor about it. Thy disease tends to skip generations depending on the type. So ask your Dr. He/she can give you a better idea of your situation than I can

You'd still take meds

Quote From: tamsue35

i wish i could have mine taken out. that way i wouldnt have to think about it and that would be one less med to take all the time. and loose weight too.....that would be great.....ive been on thyroid meds for years......and i know a lot of women that are on them........tama
if you had your thyroid out. As a matter of fact you'd be on meds the rest of your life. Taking out your thyroid can solve a lot of problems but the procedure shouldn't be taken lightly. And you wouldn't lose weight. If anything you gain MORE weight and faster. It's a lot harder to lose the weight, the reason being is, you don't produce the thyroid hormone any more and that helps with weight loss. For me it was the right decision because I was running the risk of developing cancer the longer it was in. Before you decide on any drastic action, talk it over with your doctor and find out what he/she thinks. It's major surgery with a good deal of risk to it. They will be working millimeters from your jugular vein and your carotid artery. Doesn't take much to slip there. But if you find that the benifits out weigh the risks go for it. Just be prepared to go through a lot of changes and trying to find the right balance of thyroid  medicines.

I'm on 400 micrograms of synthroid. You're right it's a pain, but you do what you have to do.

Just venting

I have been dealing with a medical problem for 2 years now and no one can give me any answers. I have had test after test after test run, and still no answers. I have periods where I can't remember my husband, my kids, how to talk, anything. I have been tested for seizures, for Alzheimer's, for tumors and for strokes or aneurysms! Nothing is panning out. I am really frustrated by what's going on. I want answers and there doesn't seem to be any available. What's wrong with me?! Why can't I get any answers as to what's wrong with me? I am lost, it's hard on me, my husband, the kids. I really can't take much more. I'm beginning to think I'm going crazy. I have seen so many doctors, had so many tests done, you'd think they would find something. I need an answer, any answer. Well thanks for letting me vent. I really needed to get it out.

Hi

What were you up to today? Do you feel stressed and/or depressed? Nice to see you again. Hugs and prayers, SEA
A little stressed. Just trying to figure everything out. I have been tested for  dissociative disorder and guess what!!! Same there as with everything else. It's really hard. I'm terrified to cook! I am scared that I will forget that I'm cooking and will burn the house down!  I have actually forgotten that before, haven't burned anything down, but still scary! I literally forget! I'll be talking to someone on the phone ,and forget that I'm on the phone. I'll forget what something is called, or not be able to say what something is called. I'll have times where I actually forget how to talk or walk! Hasn't extended to using the bathroom, but I'm scared that one day it will. I have an appointment with my neurologist soon, so will be getting MORE tests done. Something has to show up eventually right? Somebody out there has the answer. I just wish that I did
