      Dear Dr. Phil,
I was watching your show today, and I saw Rod. I saw the first show he was on and thought he was a wonderful person. And now to see him, changing and becoming more CONFIDENT with himself makes me happy. Good luck rod, you truly deserve it.
      sincerely,

      Dear Dr. Phil,
I hope Rod will be able to read the messages your audience writes.
I watched him for the first time tonight, and was not aware of all of his problems. But from the time he came out to talk with you I noticed how much love came from him. He is a genuine person, who gives so much to whomever he touches. I hope with the help from you and your staff he overcomes his addiction. And finds complete happiness within himself and from the people he is with day in and day out. Being a teacher is such a special gift in itself, and he is in touch with so many people he doesn't even realize how he is such an impact on their lives. Just like the student he didn't realize how much he meant to so many.
      God Bless you Rod.

You can over come the obstacles and feel so much better about yourself.

Before Rod came on the show, he was a good teacher and very proud of it. He was somewhat embarrassed by his weight, but he seemed to understand that his weight didnt define him and that he should be judged by other factors. Now, he has lost a little weight and looks good. He will soon regain the weight and more..........trust me on this one. At that time, he will be a good teacher and proud of it. He will be embarrassed by his weight but, hopefully, understand that his weight doesnt make him a bad person. The only question that comes to mind is: What was the point of all this?
        Are you serious doctorken?

I just wanted to ask you if you are serious. I dont believe you actually watched the shows abou Rod. It was clear to me that the issue wasn't his wait but his addiction to spending. The point of all this as you asked was to help a man that knew he needed help and asked for it and by show #2 it's obvious he well on the way of being helped completely. Neoblue

Who cares about his weight. But if it something that he would like to change, then who are you to put it down! Sounds like you have your own issues.....
      Wow! Rod!

When my room mate and I watched the update on Rod, I cried for the second time. His love for teaching and his students reminded me of how much I truly love what I do! Thank you for having the courage to come on national television and share your story. I would love to chat with you sometime. misshammond@yahoo.com

      Good Luck and God Bless,

Rod, you are truly the benchmark for the teaching profession!!! If there had been a teacher like you when I was in school I would never have wanted to leave. It's no wonder your students love you. To say that you are a WONDERFUL human being is very much an understatement. What an inspiration to all of us and if there were more like you, the world would be a better place!!!!!

    HOORAY, You will have tissues!

    Dr. Phil,
You said on your show today that you had received over 3000 letters about tissues for your guests. I have been watching your show (and love it),and always wondered 'How can this man not see that his guests need tissues?'. I'm glad others wrote to speak for all of us.
So many subjects you discuss pertain directly to my life. Many days I spend your hour crying my heart out because you struck a nerve, but I always feel better afterwards.
The other thing I wanted to talk about was that my personal philosophy has also been about living by "COMMON SENSE". That's what I really love about your show.
One of the many issues in our house is that LOGIC/common sense is my middle name, and my husband hates even the sound of the word. He really disliked it when our daughter (now 9) started using logic on him as well.
There are so many other things I would love to tell you about, but you don't have time to read all of your letters. I'll just add, and hope you get the information, that I really respect you for giving your staff such credit today. Anyone in any type of management position is only as good as their support staff when it comes to their career.
YOU ARE AWESOME...KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!

    Sincerely,
    Lee Ann

Hi, This has bothered me on every show where I see the people sitting there with tears and mucous streamaing down the faces of people, their not carrying tissues, and none being available on the set. This is not a pretty sight, and I feel embarrassed for the people. Thank God for the generosity and kindness of the tissue supplier. Make me 3002.

    Dr. Phil,
Rod reminds me so much of my husband...in fact during your show the neighbor called crying and said, "do you have Dr. Phil on.....doesn't that guy remind you of your hubby?"
It's true. Rod I just wanted you to keep up the good work. Teaching is such a wonderful thing and being over weight doesn't matter. Between your education and your personality you have so much to offer those children. You might be the only light some of these kids will ever see. So keep up the good work and someday you are going to make some lady very lucky! Just like I am!
    Rod- What a smile!

Rod, I wanted to tell you I agree with Dr. Phil's comment. I love your smile, too. Your eyes light up and I can see you are a fun person to be around. Congratulations on the steps you've taken that have improved your self-confidence. Stay on your positive path and remember.....Nobody Can Make You Feel Bad Unless YOU Let Them!

I happen to be a very pessimistic and judgemental person. I say that because I wanted you to know that even a cold hearted person like me was really, really moved by Rod's story. I genuinely hope that women can see past the exterior and view the wonderful guy within, though I doubt it...

I am also a judgmental, pessimistic person and I was impressed with Rod. I am also a fatso addict to food and spending. I truly hope I can make as much progress as Rod has, though I doubt it. I really hope ladies can see beyond appearances, though I doubt it with the way society sees fat people as lazy, slothful, sloppy, they stink, etc.
    Is Ron Single?

I didn't catch anyone mentioning what town Ron was from or if he was single. I'd really like to find out because I have someone over here who was blown away by his story and his smile! Ron, if you're reading this please give this one a 'look-see'. She's smart, loves to laugh, and cook. She's family oriented and is very loving and both her legs and her smile will knock you out! I garuntee you this is not 'the ugly girlfriend who has a 'nice personality'. And I can assure that this morning her breath was completley taken by Y-O-U! I firmly believe that really nice, caring people who have the strength to overcome personal battles deserve to be happy with others who have the same heart. Ron, if you can overlook my spelling and grammar mistakes let curiosity move you to e-mail me at kenyasunshine@blackplanet.com so we can see if you are even in the same time zone !!!

    Dear Dr. Phil,
I watched your checkup show in which Rod was one of the topics of your discussion. I am proud of Rod because when I see him I don't see his size I see his awesome personality. He is carrying out my dream to be an educator. There is so much beauty spilling out of him onto his students. I would like to correspond with Rod and encourage him not to give up. He didn't see the forrest for the trees. There seems to be so much kindness and potential in him. I hope the word confidence that you shared with him will never leave his lips or his heart for the rest of his life. I pray God's blessing be his always and that he will always be in control of things in his life and that nothing ever controls him again. I am sure there are many students out there who also feel that he has been an inspiration to them as well. Keep up the execellent work. If Rod is interested in email friends you have my permission to share my email address.
    ROD, are you single

I saw the show today and I think you are wonderful! Your smile, your dimples and your personality caught my attention! If you could only see what others see. When you were talking I didn't even notice the weight. I thought that you were a nice person who loves children. You are gorgeous. You have one of those personalities that attract or draw people to you. You will make someone a very happy woman! Feel free to reply. I would like to keep in touch! I'm fighting similar battles, so if you want to share war stories, it's okay to email me at dcolman@lycos.com.
