I am so proud of the weight loss challengers and hope they can maintain their weight loss after the cameras are off and Dr. Phil is no longer involved in their lives. I wish I could spend several months under the watchful eye of Dr. Phil and learn to control my overeating. I have a lot of emotional pain to deal with and I eat all the wrong foods, in the wrong amounts, in the wrong places, for all the wrong reasons. I have watched every show and I am so proud of all that you have accomplished - I am disappointed that I have not made any progress toward my goals.

dont worry youll lose. and remember you ar allowed an unlimited amount of greens. so go buck wild on them. and ou can also try eating them first and they will fill you up before the more fatty foods. keep at it and good luck.

I agree, vegetables are one of theose freebies that help so much! One of my favorites is stewed tomatoes - warm and filling! Also - drink tons of water all day - especially before your meal.
        Limi t greens too!

So some people think greens can be eaten in unlimited quantities, right? Wrong! Cows eat greens and cows can become overweight on greens!

OK, you listed all the things you're doing wrong. That's a good start. Now, what are you doing right? Write it down to remind yourself. Just one or two things will make a difference. But when you get to 10 or 12 "little" things, thats when the big changes start. Click on my name if you want to email me directly.

There is only one major difference between the weight loss challengers and you...and it is not Dr. Phil. It is attitude! How is your attitude? Apparently you are having a pity party now. So allow yourself to wallow in disappointment for a few minutes, then snap out of it and get started on changing your life. Lots of us are/were emotional eaters and have pain to deal with. I know I was and still must fight the battle. Have you read the book yet? It is a must for you to get past WHY you "eat the wrong foods, in the wrong amounts, in the wrong places, for all the wrong reasons. Reading, understanding, and living the keys is crucial. You will know why when you start reading and doing the exercises. I know I sound mean, but you seem to need a kick in the pants to get started down the road. First thing to do is change your thinking, then start making this "a changing day in your life." You have the power; you have the control. Best wishes for a successful week! Sandy

As I was reading all my thoughts where same as your's. I have Dr Phils book and have just started reading and working with it. I have lost 70lbs with my Drs help. But that was lbs. Now I need and must work with Dr Phils book to keep it off. There are reasons I got up to 235. Taking the steps are not easy. Looking into the past and dealing with it, is so hard. But I know it's what I must do. One step maybe harder than another and I have givin myself time. Some of the emotions are like a death. But get over it. Or it will continue to take over you. You have to move on. There is a really good life out there. Keep in mind Dr Phil is giving us keys lets use them. People come and go from our lifes. Please lets us learn from then. All my best Pat

You can do it. All you have to do is think positivley and you can do anything you put your mind too. I watched the show for the first time today and I have decided that myself and my boyfriend are going to start losing the weight. We are both over weight and keep complanning that we want to lose the weight but never do anything about it. Well Dr. Phil has given me the fire that I needed to get started. Just be patient it's not going to come off over night....
      you can do it, jenrhoad!

Your message shows a remarkably generous spirit. I could relate right away. Sometimes people find it easier to be a cheerleader for other people, while neglecting their own need for some emotional support. Please start small, somewhere in your daily life where you know you excel. Take a moment, maybe several moments a day, to tell yourself that you did well. I started doing this about 2 yrs. ago; it changed my life. Good Luck--keep in touch.

Hi! I am a 36 yr old mom who has had a very tough year..my husband left about a year ago and just served me with the papers on Halloween. I never wanted to be one of "those" divorcing people, but now realize it really can happen to anyone...NOW I need to feel better about myself!! I am about 200 lbs and would love to begin corresponding with pals today about weightloss! There is a new unexpected future ahead and I know I will feel great when I am in better shape. I know it is VERY difficult to lose weight because I have struggled with this all during the past year. Please write back/post if you would like to begin the weight loss challenge now. I can also be reached at emmarealgirl@yahoo.com

I too have been seperated from my husband for the past year after 33 years of marriage. Although not divorced with him living 600 miles away it doesn't look good. I am 278 lbs. and even though I have been cutting out, one "no-no" from my diet at a time, till there's nothing left to cut out. I feel like I'm on a water diet. But I have not lost weight.!! I am now eating only about 1200 caloris a day and still no weight loss. Just frustration. But today's show has given me hope and I will try the menu plan plus only eat at the table and see what happens! On top of all this I am diabetic and wonder if the menu plan will be OK?

sewdoll, you should really check with your Dr, at 278 lbs your basal metabolic rate should be upwards of 2500 calories a day, that means that you should burn off 2500 calories even if you did nothing but sleep all day long! If you are really taking in 1000 calories less than 2500 a day, you should be losing 1-2 lbs a week. If not, there might be a glitch with your diabetes, or your thyroid might be glitchy. In any case, its just not possible to not lose fat weight on 1200 calories a day unless something is up with your body. If you have only been doing the 1200 calorie a day thing for a few weeks, then please hang in there and be patient! Our weight fluctuates quite a bit depending on time of day, etc. Another thing to consider is that a pound of muscle is much smaller than a pound of fat, but a pound of muscle takes 900 calories to build and a pound of fat takes 3500 calories to build. This means that if you are building muscle while burning fat you can maintain the same scale weight while you are actually shrinking! That's why scales are not a good indicator of getting healthy. You want to build as much muscle as possible because muscles burn more calories than fat, so the more muscles you have the more calories you burn all day long.

Anyway keep in touch with your Dr. on account of the diabetes, and hang in there, and don't put all your faith in the scale :)

Hey sew doll, Although I am unfamiliar with what diabetics must do to control their disease and loose weight, I suggest you seek a dietician or some professional to assist you. Several people in our WW group have been advised to seek additional assistance. Your body is somewhat different in the way it operates. Just a suggestion that might help you see results. Hang in there and you will have success. I've been working on this weight thing for years and have success, but then have gained the weight back. I do believe this time I am making life style changes and I'm excited about me and my retirement!!!
        Hang in there!

Hey Sew Doll, I just wanted to let you know that several of the people in our Weight Watcher group have been advised to see a dietician for help with their disease and the weight loss issue. Apparently your body works somewhat differently and once you have some advise you will be successful.
I have been at weight loss for several years and always gained it back, but I truly believe making life style changes will be the answer. I plan to enjoy being at the correct weight and retire soon, too. My address is mharder@adsnet.com. We can do it!!

you might be luckier than you know. Yoiu probably have more time now to concentrate on yourself, to eat what you choose, and to make your own schedule. This is your time to grow, learn about yourself, and make new friends., find new hobbies, revel in your own company It is pretty difficult to eat sensibly when you have to meet someone else' food schedule, and tastes. You have such a prime opportunity to blossom and make yourself the best you can be. Take it and run with it. givergirl

i am sorry for your frustration... but what i did not read in what you wrote is whether or not you are exercising - are you doing anything to increase your metabolism? if you cut back your calorie intake and don't exercise, your body will go into "starvation mode" and your metabolism will slow to a snail's pace! if you are not exercising yet, at least get out and walk some until you can build up to some good aerobic and strength training.... if you want to succeed, you have to do both!!! good luck to you and DON'T GIVE UP!!!

I agree about the exercise. I too am diabetic recently diagnosed, and am trying to do a 1200 cal a day diet. Hard to keep at that count. Going up and down at this time, but will find a happy medium soon. About the exercise. I have not done any kind of exercise in years, so just walking a short distance is tough, but I now walk on a treadmill at my gym for 30 minutes at only 2.5 speed, but it gets my heart rate up, and I find I can increase my distance each time.

Try this. I think it will help. Try to get someone to go with you. That way you feel you have to go to meet this person. That's what I did at first, and now I go for myself.
