Dr. Phil, Get real about Alex! She is a Fifteen year old girl! Of course, she thinks, sleeps, talks and dreams about boys! You expect her, since she has already been sexually active and has had a child to all of a sudden put her sex drive and desires on hold to think about a career that is along way off in her life. Most girls, her age, who have never had sex can't keep their minds off sex and you expect Alex too! I almost feel you set her, her Mother and Sister up for this show! You knew just like any parent would what would happen and you had your film crew there to film it and make a good show from it.You put a sexy young girl in a bathing suit that is as revealing as hers was and expect her NOT to get the sexual urges she would get on a beautiful beach and in that beautiful setting! Shame on you, Dr. Phil! You knew the boys would be around her in droves. If you wanted to educate her on Marine Biology you could of sent her to Sea World and let her work and follow some of these professionals around for awhile. Of course, the show wouldn't of been as exciting and Alex wouldn't of been turned on by the envioment and the excitement of being on this beautiful Island that is made for romance!

I think people shouldn't blame Dr.Phil for Alex not haveing any self-control and runing off and following her sexual urges. It is so possible to controll your self and not "hooking" up with every guy shows her some attention. I commend Dr.Phil for showing her that she doesn't have to "follow her urges" just because she is in that environment. AS a teenager I know how hard it is and I know how easy it is to NOT follow your urges.

I think you are correct...that mother is probably a huge reason Alex is who she is.

Erin does have a BIG role in the way that Alex is. Besides telling Alex that she was acting like a slut and what she told her and saying sorry at the end of it. Im sorry but that plays a BIG role cause ALex will have that in her head for awhile after even Erin telling her sorry. My mom used to tell me that I was probably a hooker or something cause I was always hanging out with my guy friends. And that is what they are GUY FRIENDS. That had a BIG impact on my thoughts and feelings and it gave me low self esteem. I wish that I would be able to talk with Alex because I became a mother at 16 and then again at 20. And for Erin to tell Alex if she got pregnant again that she would put the baby up for adoption. Way to go Erin for that...that really helped her in the right direction on that subject. I so feel the pain and hurt that Alex is going through because I was once there. But I have put myself on a high pedistool and my kids also. Well I hope Alex the best and dont let her telling you that you are acting like a slut bring you down cause you are not at all. Best of wishes for this family and I hope that all of you learn from this.

umm if they were just friends then why were you pregnant at 16??? but about alex, it seems to me that she is just trying to be a normal teenager and that she just happened to be one of the ones who end up pregnant, and next time she will probably be more careful. not saying that what shes doing or if shes even doing it is right, but critsizing her and not her actions aren't going to help anyone. where do you think she learned this behavior probably from dear old dad and his infidelity problems. and alex i just want you to know that you and your baby deserve better than this and i wish you the best of luck! ;O)(you are loved)

Where they learned it or why they're doing it is all irrelevant. If that's the case, let's free half the people in jails & juvenile detentions. When a child is doing something wrong, you don't put up with it.
When Erin used the word slut, she WAS critizing Alex's actions - because her actions were slut-like & it's her parents job to tell her the hard truth. If Alex's feelings are hurt, she should of thought about what her mother would say to her before she decided to do it.
They were on a learning vacation, not a party. There was no reason for Alex to do what she did - they were there to have a good time together, not individually. Alex was suppose to be with her sister & leaving her behind while she swam off to kiss on some boy she JUST MET, was just plain old wrong. & then letting her sister watch her behavor was shameful. Alex wasn't apologetic. She was just angry because her mother had the nerve to get mad! Alex used the "s" word at her mother, yelled & so yea, Erin blew up. My mouth would have been the least of Alex's worries if she was my child.
I mean she didn't meet any female friends, she met some boys & then, apparently talking was not enough. Most adults don't even move that fast. Maybe it's good to have that word stuck in her head for a while. What does Alex think sluts do? Alex needs to make better choices for her own sake & allow her parents to do their job.

You're dead right. Why doesn't she ever seem to meet up with any girls? It was pretty obvious how let down Dr. Phil was by Alex's actions. This whole family is so totally self absorbed, they can't interact like the average person would. I hope families who watched this series have gotten more out of it than it appears this Family-in-Crisis has.

When you see real life on tv, it gives your life a completely different perspective. I think many people are learning from these families because everybody can see a part of someone they know (maybe, even themselves) or a similar situation in one of these people's lives.
I think the viewers who have yet to start families of their own are going to get the most out of this. So given all that, I don't think the Dr. Phil families series will be in vain. But it would be nice to see atleast one of these families completely healed, even if it is wishful thinking:)

There's a saying, "something good is going to happen today". These shows ARE going to have an impact on people, for good and for bad. One positive thing that can happen is that it gets people aware of the family dynamics that can lead to the kinds of challenges our "family in crisis" are facing.
Hang in there, team! Something good IS going to happen!

Being new to the board and the Dr. Phil site I am not sure where I should post this message...so here will have to do. On Thursday's show, Erin handled the situation with Alex poorly. However, I don't know that I would have handled it much better. What I really want to talk about is the END of that show where Dr. Phil stood up and switched seats with Kathrine. I felt he gave her too much control over a situation that she continues to exploit...how many times have we heard her regress to the situation where Marty called her an "instigator" and "hurt" her feelings? She seems to be hanging on to that particular situation, unable to let it go. Whenever she and Marty have conversations, Kathrine almost always returns to that scenario. Dr. Phil, I am usually one of your biggest fans, but you gave Kathrine too much power over Marty in that show (Marty handled it amazingly well) and you rewarded Alex for being a teen mother by showing the world what a darling little boy Nathan is and bragging about him. Did you see the pride in Alex's face when she took her baby from you? She doesn't need to continue to be ashamed of her behavior (she does need to learn to control herself though) but she should not be rewarded on national television for it either.

I agree with you completely, sometimes Dr. Phil contradicts himself and this, to me, was one of those times. 95% of the time I think he's on the money but in this case you have lots of high school girls that watch this show and it kind of looked like 'look how well this turned out for Alex, maybe it's not so bad'. I don't think he should be promoting it, however inadvertently it was done.

I see how when I was younger I too did not listen. I needed to be told over and over. I needed to see the anger of my parent to understand the seriousness of what I was doing. I have to admit it did take a while but I did think about it and slowly began to understand what my actions meant.
Society says young women can do these things. That does not make it safe for you or the young men you become involved with. The emotional roller coaster these events can put you on long out last the momentary excitement.

No self-respecting female would hang out with Alex. Remember the song, "All that she wants?" Besides, Alex is no sister let alone friend.

Alex is not going to listen to anyone that tells her to start acting like a clean living, loving mother, sister and daughter. She is going to do as she wants to, know matter what. Dr. Phil needs to stop playing into her hands and go on to another family that really wants the help. This whole family needs a reality check. Marty needs to go out on his own because he just doesn't seem to be honest about what he wants. Erin needs to take some parenting classes and those two girls need a swift kick in the bu--because neither one of them have any respect for authority, due to the fact that they have not had the guidence from mom and dad. They are both to busy with their own lives to worry about those girls.Katherine is going to follow in her sisters foot steps because she has seen how much attention Alex has gotten over all this crap. Dr. Phil, you have done all you can for this family, its time to move on to bigger and better things. You did your best, now tell them they are on their own--their TV drama show needs to stop now. lcrosson

Well again people talking and they have no idea what they are talking about. I can say one thing, Katherine is defitely not going to follow Alex. She has said many times that she thinks that her sister is stupid for having the baby! So..... I think that if Dr. Phil reads this that he should definely keep the family on, I think that they want and need the help very much. And not only for them but for little Nathan as well.
BTW- Nathan is such beautiful baby!!

"She said many times that she thinks that her sister is stupid for having the baby..."
Except this week when it looked like it was going to work out for her when Erin and Alex were fighting, she said she "looked up to her".
She likes to play and manipulate whenever she has something to gain.

messages about Alex, Erin and Kathrine.
It doesn't seem anyone else has learned anything from Dr. Phil.
