Three years after the suicide of my husband, I had the good fortune to sit with James Van Praagh for a thirty minute 'reading' (at no cost to me). I found it to be extremely healing and helpful. While I acknowledge that many-to- most mediums/psychics may be fraudulent, not all are. 'Science' is ill-equipped as the last word on what's 'real,' as some areas are hard to 'explain,' be they the paranormal, religion, and even psychology itself.
    Peace.

WOW! That's not just "good fortune" that you had with James, you were INCREDIBLY blessed...and at no charge no less! WOW!

If only I had that opportunity.

I am so happy to hear that you found some peace and closure from his gift.

      God Bless,

      Kathy
        Thanks, Kathy

Well this is just one more example of why these people get away with this stuff. Here are a bunch of you praising this guy who is a fake as well - it's a great stage trick he and others like him perform. Of course it was comforting, when you are in such pain from an event as you suffered, they know exactly what to say. My friends also went to this person and were charged a whopping fee-each for his so called psychic abilities. They too, were comforted by what he told them, but the point is you and they could have gone to grief counseling for free and gotten the same comfort and support. The fact that he did the reading for you for free means nothing, he makes so much dough from others he can well afford to do some freebies. These people are feeding a desperation that folks in these circumstances feel after such a terrible thing happens in their lives. It's very sad and this stage trick has been going on for many many years, you all are just the newest suckers on the block.

Saying that all of these people are doing a stage trick is not true for everyone. I will be the first to admit that there are some good con-artists out there. However, I do readings for people with tarot cards, and never, not even once, have I charged for a reading in 10 years of doing so. I do not talk with the dead, but I do divinations for those who ask, and I am no fraud. I will be the first to admit that there are some aweful scammers out there. Here is a clue. If they charge hundreds or thousands for their services, chances are they are probably frauds. Just cause you pay for a reading, does not mean that it will be any more accurate.

So, it's not okay to pay a gifted intuitive but it's okay to pay hundred of dollars to a psychologist? I don't buy your argument. I am a psychic and a budding psychologist. I charge for readings because people don't value free information - got that? It's a bane in our society that we have devalued "free". And, no strings, no tricks, no nothing attached, I have actually worked with the Police, too, and made a believer out of them! Even science is acknowledging that there is more out there than can be seen by the naked eye.

Psychics and psychology go hand in hand- they only "gifts" you ppl possess is the "gift" of knowing how to cold read. I would urge others to look into the "art" of cold reading- with a little bit of practice anyone can do it. Really succesful "psychics" become very very good at it. Please ppl- don't believe things just because it's what you want to hear- be a "critical thinker". The internet has many great websites devoted to skeptic thinking. Sorry, but I myself don't want to be fooled, naturally I know that science cannot explain everything, but it doesn't mean you should just believe something just because someone else says it is so.

I have been able to see and hear Spirit for as far back as I can remember. My earliest recollections go back to 2 years old, and have continued throughout my lifetime, whether I liked it or not. Believe me, there was a time when my life would have been much much easier if I were just a "normal person"!!! But since I could never get this ability to just GO AWAY, I decided it was given to me for a divine purpose and so I needed to figure out what that was. I have since learned to develop and fine tune this ability solely for the benefit of others and now incorporate it into my work as a certified health care professional. And yes, I happen to be very successful. BUT--all of my clients come to me through word-of-mouth. I don't advertise at all what I do. I've never had to.

I have heard of "cold reading" a few times but don't know anything at all about it or how it's done, nor do I have any interest in finding out.

In my work I always ask my Creator "how may I serve?" and ask that what comes for the people who pass through my door to be for their Highest Good at this moment. And that's exactly what I do my best to give.

So please, unless you know the full story of every person that has these abilities, don't be so quick to judge.

How awesome to have had a free session with JVP! Like the woman on the show today, I too am dealing with the death of my brother, and have sought the same kind of healing. I would give anything to have a session with James. I'm glad it was helpful to you. By the way - how the heck did you get a free reading! You lucky girl! :)
Be a "good" psychic is fairly hard work

I used to do psychic readings and healings in the 80s. I had spent over 20 years in spiritual practice and had come to know many extra-ordinary abilities. In preparation for readings, I would always try to meditate for at least an hour prior to the reading in order to be in as clear and neutral a space as I could be. After the reading, I generally tried to spend an equal amount of time in meditation to clear the reading from my space and look at what I had learned. I always learned far more than the person I was doing the reading for - they were unable to take in the vast majority of what had occurred.
I have no problem with professionals making a good living and in my case, considering the preparation time and the follow-up time, whatever my hourly charge was, it was actually covering at least 3 hours not including travel time.
I have found very few actual "frauds", but I have run across a fair number that have had very little discipline. Many of our most treasured confidants - Medical doctors that are not trained psychiatrists, ministers, priests, psychics and others, do not have professional training or discipline. They are often way out of their bounds - have no connection to the actual damage they may be doing - and they cannot see the damage they are doing to themselves.
Many of them are cons - they have conned themselves, and now they peddle their bull in either an outright lie or by way of their inflated ego.
Because of the stigma associated with "needing professional help" we turn to questionable alternates - I find psychics to be no less credible than priests.

The great untold story is that a great amount of a psychics work is not about dealing with down and out desperate people or cops in search of missing people.
It is all about talking to the spirit of the person. It is all about remembering oneself.

      Have an excellent day!

SOME PEOPLE CAN READ YOUR MIND AND PRECIOUS FEW POSSES THE MORAL QUALITIES QUALIFYING THEM TO MUCK AROUND IN THE PSYCHE OF ANOTHER.

JUST BE VERY VERY CAREFUL WHO YOU TALK TO

KEEN.COM IS FULL FROM ONE END TO THE OTHER WITH MORAL DEGENERATES WHO OPERATE WITH LEGAL PROTECTION AND BILK PEOPLE ROUTINELY

IT IS A GIANT TRAVESTY AND IS MORALLY NO BETTER THAN KIDDY PORN

    URGH!!!!

It makes me so mad when people manipulate others this way. Not just because it's manipulating someone in pain, but because it gives people like me a bad rap.

I have been reading tarot, palms and runes for a good 5 years now. I never charge for my services, mainly because I'm not good at remembering what things mean :p.

There is, however, a universal law in doing these types of activies (at least in the circles I travel in) where if you do charge, you only charge the person for your time, energy and the tools needed.
I've never had a reading done that was over $50, which seems like alot, but it was a hour session where the people sat down and explained everything, did various types of readings and I even got a crystal out of it.

I know this type of thing isn't for everyone, but I also know for a fact that it works...whether it be through people interpretting meanings to their own lives or a higher source trying to help them out.

Could someone let me know what Dr Phil said about all this? I don't live in the US so we haven't gotten this episode yet.

    Blessed Be.

I also read tarot and have been doing so for 10 years. I have never once charged for a reading. I am beginning to learn how to use the crystal ball, and how to read runes. I tried palm reading (mom tried to teach me) but I was terrible at that. I personally will never charge for any readings that I do, and it sickens me to see that people are taking advantage of these poor souls. It gives people like us a bad name. With all of these horrible people out there, no wonder most people get a bad taste in their mouth at the mention of psychics or readers. The only part that I did not agree with is you charging for your time. That is just me, I don't believe that any divination should have to be paid for. I personally like the chance to gain more practice doing my readings, so to charge for my time just isn't an option. I would not feel right doing so.
Oh, and a Blessed Be to you as well. ;)
      Merry Yule

Hi Joeangela. After I read your message I was hoping to maybe find some comfort in you as well. I am much like the girl on the show, as I lost my brother last year in a fatal car crash. At the time of his death he and my mother were battling addictions, and I had a lot of anger toward him at the time. Since his passing I have sought comfort much the same way as the girl on the show today because I feel there were a lot of things that were left unsaid. I was wondering if you any message for me. (I hope you are not bombarded my emails such as mine!)
