    THANKS DR.PHIL!!!

    Dr.Phil
    b Thank you
for making weight loss one of your top topics in 2003!!! I have been using your words of wisdom over the last year...My Favorite =
YOU DON'T HAVE TO LIKE IT, YOU JUST HAVE TO DO IT!!!

I am slowly working my way thru your book...Like so many others I didn't want to look at why I ate more than my body needed.

One of my most simple light bulb moments came from OPRAH...She always said DIETS didn't work...I always thought she was crazy...Until the day I realized that she was really saying you can never stop!!! Ever other time I lost weight ...my goal was to reach the finish line so I could go right back to my food party....I never connected the 2 ... eating my regular way and gaining weight...Talk about dumb!!!

I was 50 pounds overweight then gained another 50 pounds when I quit smoking...I started my life style change last January ...and have lost 52 pounds to date.

    I am
b READY,WILLING and ABLE to join in your DR.PHIL BOOTY CAMP ...to help me reach my goal of losing my last 50 pounds to reach my goal weight....

          All:

there are various way to go about getting in your exercise in. Most of you own a VCR or DVD player and the exercise tapes available are around $10 each. I have used these for many years, dating back to Jane Fonda....Remember those? That definitely tells my age!

There is also a couple of versions of "Walk the pounds off" for those that need to ease into this slowly, and palantes is great. The moves are slow but deliberate.

For those of you that like to move a little more, there is Richard Simmons "Dance your pants off", many different versions, and Aerobic exercises. He is really fun! Then there is Denise Austin, she has aerobics with weight training as well and many different tapes to choose from.

Now if you want something really fast and streneous, there is Billy Blank's tapes with kick boxing, and "The Firm" is somewhat new and good and you can feel the burn.

These are just examples of what is out there. If you can't afford these, or don't want to spend the money on them until you know you will use them, then go to your library and rent them.

I have a sister that is older than me, and she said last summer she went out to do yard work. She is not very active and she got very sore. She said her husband told her to not go back out there any more.....Now what is that all about? She is only 52 years old and she thinks her life is over.....that she is too old to exercise.....well, I gave it to her, if she thinks she is getting too old,

Personally, I hate going to the gym. I had a membership at a gym in my town and I was always so uncomfortable going there, it felt more like a meat-market than anything else. I exercise at home. My favorites are The Firm Body Sculpting System (both the older one and the newer one), Walk Away The Pounds Express, and I recently got Karen Voight's Sleek Physique (tho I ain't so sleek...YET). I also have a treadmill, an elliptical trainer and a smaller weight-machine. Of course all the equipment was pretty spendy, but I think most people can afford at least a few decent workout videos/dvds. Or even cheaper--go for a walk!
            Thank You So Very Much

            De Phil
I have been watching the weight loss challange and now the booty camp challange. I haven't figured which one I fit into yet. I do need to loose weight like most of us. I have a physical dilema that I'm not sure how to reconcile. In March 2003,I was diaganosed with Type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol & high blood pressure. I worked with a diabietes dietary specialist for a few weeks. She showed me the adjustments to make to my diet, which were few. In fact I had to begin to eat more (especially carbohydrates). I had an 85% blockage in the left artery in my heart and had a stent put in in September.....All this while I thought I was in perfect health. I was and still am never sick, never even have a headache. The only thing I have is neuropathy in my feet and finger tips. This causes me to hesitate to exercise because I know it will hurt afterwards. I changed from low fat things like dressings, etc to regular because of the amount of sugar vs fat. Now I do not know what to concentrate on.....less sugar or less fat. Most things are still low fat, no or little sugar, lean cuts meat, mostly chicken, little red meat. My sugars seem in range with my guidelines, my cholesterol (last checked) was down into a good range and my blood pressure is good. I still need to loose weight. Will your weight loss programs if followed correctly also help me to keep my sugar, cholesterol blood pressure in the correct ranges?....or do I need specialized programs for my diabetes and cho

I think it is much hard to get motivated to excerise when you work all day, you don't want to work some more, it is much easier to go home change into comfortable clothes and relax but one has to just push theirself and say it won't happen until you do something about it. I get discouraged sometimes and since it is so much harder because of my age 61 and working all day. Any ideas or advice?

I agree with working out at home with videos. I have been working out and losing weight since 93. I have lost 130 pounds, but did gain 20 pounds when my mother became very ill in 2000. I also went back to school at this time to become a nurse at 42 years. It is hard doing homework and taking care of a family and try to lose weight. I did lose a little during the last two and half years, I think mostly inches. I saw the show on booty camp and I joined the club. I read the letter from ettamon about working out at home with videos. I have been working out at home for years with videos. I make sure I do a cardio tape every other day alternating with weight tapes. I also do 20 to 25 mins on a Gazelle after I do the videos. I agree with ettamom letter about home videos. THey are useful and fun to do. I also love the Billy Blank's tapes, they are a lot of fun, I a lot of weight and inches when I used the Billy Blank tapes. I haven't brought your book Dr. Phil yet, but will in the future. I went on line in your booty camp to see if there are any others in Ontario who are in it. I haven't hear anything yet.

Check out your local library. My problem w/exercise videos is that I didn't know much about them. I hate the ones where you have to concentrate more on keeping up than actually doing the exercise, so I was hesitant to invest $15-$25 bucks a pop to find out that I hated the video, so I discovered that the local library has videos. I can keep them 3 weeks in my area and thats perfect. If I really like one, then I can go buy it. If I hate it, I return it and forget about it.

Where do you put your pedometer? It said to keep it on your waist but one day I will have 15000 and the next it will only have 5000. Is there a better place to put it? Kathy

You are supposed to put it on your waist-band, but also keep in mind that going up or down stairs, stepping up or off a curb, etc, can mess up the pedometer. You're also not supposed to wear high-heels with it, just an FYI.

Hi, I wear a pedometer everyday and position it over my left hipbone, about 2 inches away from my navel. Remember to keep it upright and if you are wearing loose-waist pants or sweats it might not be upright. Plus if you have some belly overhang that could impede a correct read-out. I try to attach mine to my belt and loop the tether thru a belt-loop so I don't lose it. I wear a SportBrain pedometer and have for almost 3 years after seeing it on Oprah, it's the most accurate pedometer I have ever worn.

            Hope this helps.

              Hi Louise,

I have had bad luck with pedometers not being accurate. Which model of the SportBrain pedometer do you have? They seem to be the best I have seen since they come with a 2 year warranty.

              Thanks,
