We seem to be getting lax in identifying groups of people. Many of these "race" issues are not based on differences between races. They often center on people of various ethnic backgrounds. As highlighted in the 10/8 show, the case of the Mexican: Mexicans are primarily caucasian. Many are mestisos, the Spanish having intermarried for many generations with the native people of Mexico (what many label as Indian).
From the perspective of a "white American," let's be careful how we label race. I've even heard people comment on Italians, Greeks, Arabs, etc. as other races. They aren't; they are of different ethnic make-up.

Amen! Your response got me thinking as to why my Mexican husband was readily accepted by one of my uncles who was always making disparaging comments about the Vietnamese down the street or the "colored".
My husband has no mestizo blood and therefore looks more "white" than "Native American". Perhaps that is why he was accepted.
I suspect the real reason my uncle came to adore him was that he is a hardworking blue-collar worker just like my uncle was, with strong family values and a desire to treat me, the adored niece, very well.
I have trouble with the "Hispanic" race label, as it crosses over into so very many cultural backgrounds.

People laughed at the same jokes, (for different reasons) and who thought that HOW a Person treats you is Very IMPORTANT?

The book of Proverbs speaks of three types of women men should refrain from. The harlot, the adulteress, and the strange woman. Proverbs 5:3-20 leaves no gray area about the subject. In Ezra chp 9, it depicts the plight of the Israelites who married strange women(foreign). They had to give up these wives and the children they had with them because it was considered a sin. One man was not able to inherit because he married a strange woman. Look up the definition of strange; it means foreign, different. Bible states that her steps lead straight to hell. I didn't write the words it's in the Bible. I guess it was a waste of God's time to create male and female in every race if all we were going to do is muck it up. God put the racial dividers there. As for my race(black) in the next 50-100 years I don't believe we will be around due to race mixing. And by the way non-black women or men don't produce black children, only dual black parentage can do that. It is wrong, it destroys cultures, tears down families, dilutes blood lines. But I guess thats okay with some folks. I like people of other cultures, I just don't want them in my family. So those folks who say they love black people, If you love us let us live, please. I believe we are supposed to love everybody, but it's not okay to be "in love" with any and everbody.

Once again we have an individual who incorrectly interprets the bible to make a point about interacial dating and "mixing". You obviously did not read the entire definition of foreign. WEBSTERS dictionary and several others do not even mention race in the definition. I have a cousin who is "foreign" that is white like I am. I have a bi-racial daughter and I have warned her of this kind of ignorance. A man and woman that love each other and God is all that matters. Stop the hate!

You are angry and do not agree with "READ THE BIBLE" because you yourself have crossed the line! The sad thing about interacial relationships is the children produced are the ones that have to suffer the consequence of the parents decision to mate. You can still go out in public and be a pure race. The children cannot. Every day they are reminded of the parents wrong. Right is still right even if every one in the world chooses to do wrong. Right does not change because wrong comes knocking on the door.

I hate to break it to you but I am in an interracial marriage and have a son who is considered "bi-racial" he is not suffering, he attends private school, little league ect. and has never once had any problems, in fact he leads a very charmed little life thank you very much!...It is very clear you know absolutely nothing about what you are talking about. You dont have to like what I am doing but have an educated opinion at least if you are going to make your opinion public.

Nicely said! Human beings are not measured in terms of purity, like organic vegetables! It sounds like your boy is a very fortunate human being. What color he is, what color you are, matters not one whit. What matters is that he is LOVED and VALUED by you, and is being raised to be a good man.
There is a lot to be said for maintaining a sense of culture, but what's wrong with celebrating ALL the cultures in one's background? It's just more to learn about, which is a GOOD thing!
Your son (all the beautiful colors of him) is lucky to have you for a parent!

I hate to break it to YOU, but how do you know your son is not suffering? Just because he attends private school and plays ball does not mean he doesn't feel pain. I did very well in school, excelled in sports and got college scholarships, but still look in the mirror and hate my appearance. And still have a lack of confidence in myself.
My mother is Native American and my father is white. I have never felt good about who I am regardless of all the love and support of my parents. If your son has these problems, he most likely wont confide in YOU, the cause of his self doubt.

Not everyone who's biracial is messed up. I'm sorry you feel so incomplete, but a lot of biracials (including my own child) are well-adjusted and happy with who they are. I will say that came with a price to pay because we live in a society that tries to make kids chose who they are based on the color of their skin and not the person they are. My daughter struggled in her early years, but she no longer allows anyone to pigeon-hole her. She loves herself as she is and has no regrets. She didn't get to chose her parents, but she loves us both.

Dude, you have to understand that your feelings of inferiority were not brought on by your parents. They didn't tell you are inferior in any way. The way you feel is a result of society. We did it...not your parents and definately not you. I would say your parents are some of the few smart minority of people who have seen the light and are beginning to realize that really race doesn't matter. (So my skin cells produce more melanin than yours??? So?? If your sweat glands probably produced more sweat than mine, will that make you a different organism. It's the same line of thinking). Discrimination is a human device (NOT GOD'S), and it'll take humans to destroy it. You need to look at yourself in the mirror, block out all the negative voices, including yours, and see that you are only human. HUMAN. Two humans beings got together, and made very beautiful YOU. then learn to forgive society for the misconceptions they've made about you.

The sad thing is that I think you are the one who is angry - dont you have enough in your life apart from worrying about what other people do with their life....Sad Sad Sad. I am assuming that you really have no idea what you are talking about and what educated material have you gleaned your opinion from that bi racial children have so many problems. Mine certainly doesnt, he attends private school, little league and a range of other social activities, in fact he lives a very charmed little life thank you very much. It is people like you that create problems for bi racial children.

What is White

I am a 57 year old white male, at least that is how I identified myself all my life. But in reality I am Irish, English, American Indian and colored Jewish. How much of what part makes me "white"? It takes education on a personal basis to learn that different is ok and sometimes better.
In a broader sense racism is the same old middle school behavior of scorning someone who looks or acts differently; whether it is the clothes, the music, the language, the length of the hair, the car, the color of skin or anyone of a thousand other things. As we learn and grow we gain the knowledge to understand that difference is to be valued and sometimes loved.

I am a 28 year-old lady first. I am also bi-racial, having a white mother and a black father. I had a poor self-image growing up in an all white town. Having divorced parents and lacking a father from 1-18 had a major influence on my lack of identity. As I matured, my mind gained a very powerful perception of differances, uniqueness, and acceptance. I am God's creation. God does not make mistakes. No, I was not accepted as a child. But I was a child. That is what made me who I am today. Loving and accepting. Versatile. Brave and opinionated. Unique. Lovely.

ANGRY AT WHAT? IGNORANCE? YES. WHY SHOULD ANYONE HAVE TO CHOOSE ANY CATEGORY OF RACE? WHAT IS YOUR FEAR? YOU MAY HAVE TO ACCEPT A NEW CULTURE? CHILDREN ARE TAUGHT, SO HOW WOULD WE AS ADULTS KNOW ABOUT "PURITY OF RACE" UNLESS IT WAS PUMPED INTO OUR HEAD? I HAVE A STEPDAUGHTER WHO CAME FROM TWO BLACK PEOPLE. SHE CALLS ME MOMMY AND DOESN'T KNOW THAT SHE SHOULD HAVE A BLACK MOMMY BY YOUR STANDARDS. ALL SHE KNOWS IS THAT SHE LOVES ME. THE ONLY PROBLEM I'M GOING TO HAVE WITH MY CHILDREN REGARDING RACE ARE TRYING TO UNDO THE DAMAGE PEOPLE LIKE YOU CREATE. THANK YOU! BY THE WAY I'M NOT AN ANIMAL. I DON'T MATE.

Ignorance

Ignorance always makes me angry. I am a bi-racial lady who deals with ignorance every day. The first thing people want to do is choose my race for me. "You are black, you are white". Wrong, I am Chantel first. My race does not define my existence, mind, or personality. I am giving, loyal, unique, opinionated, loving, and even discouraged because I am human. I am original because of my mind, not my outward appearance. We as humans, create standards. We as individuals, break the standard barriers.

There is no such thing as a "pure race."
So dig deep into your family tree and you will find lots of "mixing".
If we hadn't have mixed through the ages all the diseeases that are prevalent to a certain race would have overtaken us by now.

What happened to the "Melting Pot"? America is built on a mixture of races and cultures. I myself have a bi-racial daughter. She hasn't suffered as a result of this. She is friends with both black and white kids. Her personallity makes it almost difficult for anyone to not like her. I came from a very racist family and even their negative attitude towards other races can't stand when she is around. She doesn't "choose" sides, she tells people she is mixed. Why should she have to? If you are going to quote the Bible, it does say we were created in his image, so all of us, no matter what race, religion, culture, or ethnic group we belong to, are loved by God. Jesus died for our sins, and HATE is a sin. Love everybody and get over dividing everyone up into groups. That is what is making America so full of problems, HATE.
