I have always found it unbelievable, and am always dumbstruck by the lengths that people will go through to try to be something other than themselves. I have always felt plastic surgery should be limited to people with physical deformities from birth defects, fires, and car accidents, etc. That is my opinion. I plan on watching the show today out of curiousity. I am always curious as to why people justify getting plastic surgery.

These people posting on here must be very young (and broke), and don't know what they're talking about. As with anything else someone tells me, I go by my own experience and research on the net. Look it up - most surgeries ARE successful, and the "freaks" are in the minority (and are to be pitied rather than ridiculed).
These people here who don't even know you are trying to scare you away from something you really want because of their own insecurities, jealousy and ignorance. Do what You want, after educating yourself on it and the risks. Then find a reputable physician and discuss everything thoroughly with him/her. Once you've decided to go ahead, get yourself in the best shape you can, changing your diet to the healthiest you can, and getting some daily exercise. This will make you feel better in more ways than one.
Plan for this wonderful event and look forward to it. Have all kinds of comforts in place for when you arrive home.
If it's only an eye-job or even a full face-life, you will come home the same day wide awake, but wiht some soreness (not excruciating pain - I didnt even use pain pills. ). YOu will need ice bags, lots of snacks, movies and other creature comforts,a nd then take a vacation form the world a fewe days. I was comfortable enough to get out in public after my stitches were removed (about the third day. The only major bruising was around the eyes, and sunglasses took care of that. Makeup could be applied to the rest of the face

What ever happend to being natural and aging gracefully ? Why is is that everyone wants to look so plastic and fake > I admire the woman or man that has to guts to be natural and not buy into this fad of the times to cut and tuck . For pete's sake only someone with a bad scar or disfigurement should really need plastic surgery . I think it is apalling the way our society has gotten to think that if a person has gray hair they are out of touch with fashion today . So I sure hope the times change as otherwise all of us with gray hair and wrinkles will have to start banning together and form a realist club ! let's hear it for the folks who find more inportant things in life than starring at themselves in a mirror thinking oh my I better go get bowtox today ! wrinkles are healthy ! they show you had a life ! okay now don't hit me with those rotten apples I will duck now .

I am 77 years old and have never had cosmetic surgery, of any kind. My hair is almost white, my skin wrinkled, in spots, my eye lids sagging. All the "goodies" that happen when you age. But, you know, I feel no shame, because of my looks. All my "beauty marks" of aging, come from the genes my mother and father passed along to me. But, most of all, I like myself as I am. Warts and all.

I love this woman! I am 52, getting a little salt and pepper sprinkling in my hair, all my body parts aren't exactly where they were afew years and a couple of kids ago, need to lose about 30 pounds (but Dr.Phil and I are working on that!). I have had several health problems involving surgery, I just don't enjoy going under knife. Cosmetic surgery is a wonderful thing but not to be taken lightly. If you can be comfortable in your own skin as it stretches and ages I think that is the best life can offer. I consider all my scars and wrinkles as awards for all lifes battles that brought me to this point in my life. They put me where I am today, middle-aged and happily married, with two great kids! What more can you ask for except to keep the good times rolling!

self esteem

It comes down to self esteem and self image. If we don't like ourselves, we are constantly trying to look younger, when in reality, ageing gracefully is much more attractive. Plastic surgery should be used only for severe scars, burns, birth defects, and the like. And botox isn't a good idea either. We want to look our best at any age but surgery is going too far.

Whatever happened to the normal life cycle? Monica is not more attractive now, she used to be a pretty girl, her husband must long to have the pretty Monica back. Plastic surgery should be for those who have been disfigured by some occurance in their life not for someone who wants to look like a plastic doll.

Everyone has wrinkles - even teenagers! I am a woman and I just admire the beauty of other women who I think are attractive,cute,pretty,etc..I am sure that other women admire my looks as well.
Do I want to look like someone else? NO. I really do not think having cosmetic surgery has anything to do with having the "guts". Money - yes. Obviously a lack it of will stop the people who want CS.
To want CS because I see a woman who is beautiful is known as a lack of self-esteem.
To want CS to compete and compare with other women is called jealousy.
If we are an older woman, why can't we just admire the beauty of youth and remember when we were once looked upon as a young beauty too.
There will always be someone younger, prettier,richer,kinder,taller,thinner,etc.,etc..Having self-esteem makes us happy and helps us age gracefully, not taking away a wrinkle and putting in implants.

Face it. Capitalism runs this country. We are bombarded everyday with commercials and ads in magazines showing the "Beautiful People". They make billions of $ a year by making us feel "less than". Not pretty enough, not well dressed, not technologically savvy enough, our breath is bad, our hair is funky, we need new furniture, we need a new car, and on and on and on!
There was a time when age was respected. And when we treat aging as something to avoid, we teach our posterity to have no respect for us who age.

Capitalism may run The U.S but it hasn't anything to do with self-esteem. Donald Trump is, in my opinion, not very attractive but he doesn't slice and dice himself to obtain dates with the models that he does, but those women probably worry about their looks even if they are beautiful.
Many women do not feel "less than". Some women realise that pictures are pictures and that television is not real.
Some women will never be supermodels, would never want to be anyway and really like themselves.
The only one that can make us feel envious of what other people have is ourselves.
Maybe if more women focused a little less on their looks and worked on their self-esteem, they would be able to show the young girls that aging is okay and that slicing, dicing, injecting is unnecessary.

kay bek- I agree with you. But The Donald
doesn't slice and dice himself 'cause The Donald actually believes that '70s porn star look he's still sporting is what draws in the bevy of young beauties! I'ts working for him in his eyes. Strip him of his power and money, and he's Simon, the used-car salesman working Jamie Lee Curtis in "True Lies". Trump's got an endless stream of individuals keeping that ego and self-esteem of his at an unrealistic level. The rest of us aren't so lucky. A current hair style, some new threads, a little lift here or there. This is what's available to those among us feeling alittle less about ourselves. There's this great movie phrase I love
that says "It's a wonderful thing to grow old with someone who still sees you the way you used to see yourself". If we could all be so fortunate.

You are hilarious! Loved your description of Mr.Trump!
Maybe Donald Trump as an endless stream of individuals keeping that ego and self-esteem of his at an unrealistic level but at least he likes who he is without resorting to major surgery.
Many men would be intimidated by those models he dates. He is not a stupid man. I am sure he knows he is not a "Tom Cruise" or whomever it is that women view as handsome. He has enough confidence and self-esteem to accept himself even though he has enough money to change his every feature and all his body parts.
It would be a wonderful world if we all just accepted and liked how we look.If there was not such a thing as plastic surgery we would.

Bingo! You are soo right about that. But PS had humble beginnings. Following WWI so many men came back without faces & noses, massive burns, and had to rejoin society and work to support their families, so drs went to work, made them acceptable. And
now, at least in this country, hare lip & cleft palettes are repaired, faintly detectable, there's no stigma,& they live normal, happy lives. Not so in many other countries where PS is rare and families hide
their offspring in shame. But PS is like everything - social security, welfare, food stamps, insurance, pain killers. Eventually, there will be abusers. I'm afraid it's here to stay. There are going to be more Debras and Michael Jacksons as a result. It's sad. Their faces will be their scarlet letter to bear, exposing their misguided desires, for all the world to see.
Yep. What a world it would be if we just accepted and liked how we look.

I was not aware that they actually did PS on the soldiers who served in the war. I remember meeting some of my Grandfather's war buddies and some had major facial deformities. I guess the doctors just made their features functional and were not concerned with returning them to how they looked before serving.
Thank you. I just learned something new.

IMO you sure are using the wrong person to describe self esteem. If the Donald was so confident then why does he color his hair?????? which by the way always needs a retouch. LOL
Why?
